As of September 30, 2020, the Army provided interim guidance for the wear of the new Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU), often referred to as the “Pink and Greens.” This Agsu Wear Guide is based on the latest information available, pending the finalization of official regulations. For soldiers and those interested in military dress, understanding these guidelines is crucial for proper uniform wear.
This interim AGSU wear guide outlines key points for assembling your uniform correctly. Note that these regulations are subject to change as the Army finalizes its official guidance.
Key Interim Guidelines for AGSU Wear:
- Badge Finish: Soldiers must choose either an oxidized or silver finish for their badges. Mixing finishes within the uniform is not permitted, ensuring a cohesive and professional appearance.
- Nameplates: Nameplates are not authorized for wear on either the AGSU coat or shirts. This differs from some other Army uniforms and maintains a cleaner look for the AGSU.
- Female AGSU Coat Insignia: Female AGSU coats are designed with pocket flaps instead of functional pockets. Consequently, insignia placement on female coats will adhere to male uniform standards, ensuring uniformity across genders.
- Identification Badges: A maximum of one identification badge may be worn per pocket. This restriction helps to prevent overcrowding and maintain a balanced look on the uniform.
- Combat, Special Skills, and Marksmanship Badges: Soldiers can wear no more than four combat and special skills badges in total, including marksmanship badges. Within this, a maximum of three marksmanship awards can be displayed at any one time. Badges are positioned 1/4 inch above ribbons or the pocket flap. Alternatively, badges can be worn below ribbons, 1/4 inch below the top of the pocket flap, offering some flexibility in arrangement.
- Special Skill Tabs: No more than two special skill tabs from group 4 (sewn-on) are authorized. These tabs are sewn onto the left sleeve, positioned 1/2 inch below the shoulder seam. The Soldier Sleeve Insignia (SSI) is placed 1/4 inch below any tabs, creating a structured arrangement on the sleeve.
- Unit Awards: Soldiers must choose to wear either permanently awarded unit awards or temporary unit awards. Mixing permanent and temporary unit awards on the AGSU is not authorized.
- Neckties: A Four-In-Hand necktie is prescribed for both male and female soldiers wearing the AGSU. This standard necktie contributes to the uniform’s traditional and formal appearance.
- Soldier Sleeve Insignia (SSI): The SSI is sewn on the left sleeve of the AGSU coat, centered 1/2 inch below the shoulder seam. This placement is consistent with Army regulations for sleeve insignia.
- SSI for Former Wartime Service: The SSI for former wartime service is worn on the right sleeve, also positioned 1/2 inch below the shoulder seam of the coat. It’s important to note that the combat service identification badge is not authorized for wear on the AGSU coat.
- Regimental Distinctive Insignia (RDI): RDI is worn on the right side of the coat, centered 1/8 inch above the pocket flap, or 1/4 inch above any unit award or foreign badges. If the coat lapel obscures the RDI, it may be aligned to the right edge of the unit awards for better visibility.
- Class B AGSU (Shirt): No badges or accouterments are authorized for wear on the Class B AGSU shirt. Additionally, U.S. and branch insignia are also not authorized on the Class B shirt, maintaining a simplified appearance for the shirt version of the uniform.
