To maximize your Lockpicking skill in WoW Classic, remember the basic formula: (5 * your character level). For instance, a level 20 character can achieve a maximum Lockpicking skill of 100. This guide will walk you through the most efficient path to boost your Lockpicking from 1 to 300.
Leveling Lockpicking: 1 – 100
For the initial levels, head to The Barrens, near Rachet, and locate the Buccaneer’s Strongboxes. These are situated inside the ship in the marked location below and are known for their rapid respawn rate. This makes it an ideal spot for multiple rogues to train simultaneously.
Also within the same ship, at the bottom, you’ll find “The Jewel of the Southsea” chest. Be cautious when attempting to open this at lower levels as it triggers a mob that can easily defeat you.
Alternatively, Redridge Mountains offers another excellent location. North of Lake Everstill, you can find numerous Practice Lockboxes. These boxes also respawn very quickly, ensuring a smooth and fast leveling experience up to skill level 100.
Leveling Lockpicking: 100 – 150
Once you reach skill level 100, your next destination is Ashenvale, specifically Zoram Strand. Search along the shoreline for Waterlogged Footlockers. These are located on land, making them easy to access and pick, allowing you to progress your skill efficiently.
Leveling Lockpicking: 150 – 200
Travel to Badlands – Angor Fortress for the next stage of your lockpicking journey. Here, you will encounter two types of footlockers. To open the Dentened Footlocker, you will need a Lockpicking skill of at least 175. Focus on these footlockers to advance your skill. Ignore pickpocketing mobs here, as the boxes they carry are too low level to grant skill points at this stage.
Leveling Lockpicking: 200 – 250
Your next stop is Searing Gorge, specifically The Slag Pit cave in the middle of the zone. Inside, you will find a concentration of footlockers. In addition to lockboxes, try pickpocketing mobs in this area to obtain Sturdy Junkboxes. These can provide extra skill points. Initially, stay on the lower level of the Slag Pit until you reach skill level 225, as the lockboxes on the upper level will be too challenging to open before then.
Leveling Lockpicking: 250 – 300
For the final stretch from 250 to 300, the Blackrock Depths (BRD) dungeon is the optimal location. Follow this efficient route within BRD to maximize your skill gains:
- Upon entering BRD, turn left and unlock the first door.
- Take the first right and unlock the subsequent door.
- Turn left again and unlock the first door you encounter.
- Proceed through this door and interact with the large wooden structure protruding from the ground, situated below the giant gear. This is the Shadowforge Lock.
This sequence allows you to pick four locks per run. After picking all four, reset the instance by right-clicking your character portrait and selecting “Reset all instance”. Keep in mind the instance limit of 5 resets per hour, allowing for a potential gain of 20 skill points per hour. To accelerate your progress, pickpocket mobs within BRD during each run to collect Strong Junkboxes and Heavy Junkboxes. These junkboxes, combined with the Shadowforge Locks, should provide enough opportunities to reach skill level 300. Alternatively, you can wait and re-enter the instance once the lockout period expires.
