Your Comprehensive Guide to Starting Canon Remote UI

Accessing your Canon device remotely is streamlined with Canon’s Remote UI (Remote User Interface). This powerful web-based tool allows you to monitor device status, manage settings, and perform administrative tasks from the convenience of your computer. This guide will walk you through the simple steps to start and navigate the Canon Remote UI, ensuring you can effectively manage your device remotely.

Before you begin, ensure your Canon device is connected to the network and you have its IP address. You can usually find this information within the device’s network settings menu, often labeled as “View Network Settings”. If you’re unsure how to locate the IP address, consult your network administrator for assistance.

Once you have the IP address, follow these steps to launch the Remote UI:

  1. Open Your Web Browser: Start by opening your preferred web browser on your computer. Popular choices include Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.

  2. Enter the IP Address: In the browser’s address bar, type http:/// followed by the IP address of your Canon device. For example, if your device’s IP address is 192.168.1.100, you would enter http://192.168.1.100/. Then, press the Enter key.

Note for IPv6 Users: If your network uses IPv6 addresses, you can also access the Remote UI. Enclose the IPv6 address in brackets when entering it into the browser, like this: http://[fe80::2e9e:fcff:fe4e:dbce]/.

  3. Address Security Alerts (If Applicable): Depending on your network configuration and browser security settings, you might encounter a security alert. This is common when the Remote UI communication is encrypted for security purposes. If you are confident in your network’s security and the certificate settings, proceed to browse the website. Ensure that TLS settings are correctly configured if you encounter persistent security alerts.

  4. Log in to Remote UI: The Canon Remote UI login page will now appear in your browser. The login process varies slightly depending on whether Department ID Management is enabled on your device.

When Department ID Management is Disabled:

You will be presented with options to log in under System Manager Mode or General User Mode.

    • System Manager Mode: Provides full access to all Remote UI operations and settings. To log in as a system manager, enter the designated System Manager ID and System Manager PIN. Refer to your device’s manual for instructions on “Setting the System Manager ID and PIN.”

    • General User Mode: Offers limited access, allowing you to check document status and device information, and modify some settings. To check your print jobs or cancel them, you can enter your username in the User Name field. This username is usually automatically associated with print documents based on your computer’s name or login information.

    • Remote UI Access PIN: If a Remote UI Access PIN has been set for general access, you will need to enter it in the Remote UI Access PIN field, regardless of the mode you choose. Consult your device’s manual for details on “Setting a Remote UI PIN.”
