Tom’s Guide Reveals Today’s Wordle Answer

Let’s unveil the Wordle answer for game #1,341!

The answer is: MADLY.

Wordle players, today’s puzzle was indeed a test! The word “MADLY” features only two letters, ‘A’ and ‘L’, from the ten most frequently used letters in Wordle answers. This makes starting words that prioritize common letters less effective for today’s solution.

My usual opening word, ORATE, which includes the top five most common letters, only revealed a single yellow ‘A’. This left a staggering 161 potential solutions according to WordleBot.

However, WordleBot’s best Wordle start words would have been significantly more helpful. For instance, SLIDE would have narrowed it down to 20 possibilities, while TABLE reduces the options to just 11. Starting with DEALT would have left you with a mere four potential answers.

On my second attempt, I focused on incorporating ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘S’, ‘N’, and ‘C’, aiming to build upon the revealed letters. NAILS allowed me to use four of these letters, proving to be a smart move. It turned both ‘A’ and ‘L’ green, leaving only five possible words according to WordleBot*.

Next, I tried DALLY, another good guess, which turned ‘Y’ green and ‘D’ yellow. At this point, the answer pattern became clear: ?ADLY.

Two words came to mind: BADLY and MADLY. I unfortunately guessed BADLY first, but thankfully, MADLY became an easy final guess on my fifth try.

We hope your Wordle journey today was more successful! Join us again tomorrow for the next Wordle challenge.

*WordleBot listed these possibilities: BADLY, MADLY, CAULK, DALLY, and GAYLY.

Yesterday’s Wordle Answer: Catching Up

Did you miss yesterday’s Wordle? Or are you reading us from across the globe in a different time zone? Let’s recap. The Wordle answer for game #1,340 was INDIE.

Yesterday’s puzzle presented its own set of challenges. Only 34 Wordle answers begin with ‘I’, and “INDIE” cleverly uses the letter twice!

‘I’ isn’t among the most common Wordle letters, meaning my go-to start word, ORATE, wasn’t as effective. Only ‘E’ turned green, leaving a daunting 101 possible solutions remaining.

Again, WordleBot’s best Wordle start words proved their worth. PLANE would have narrowed it to 36 options, CRANE to 24, and TRIED to a mere ten.

For my second guess, I incorporated ‘L’, ‘I’, ‘S’, ‘N’, and ‘C’ around the confirmed ‘E’.

With only a green ‘E’, SLICE was a logical choice. It added a yellow ‘I’, reducing the possibilities to nine, according to WordleBot*.

IMBUE was my next guess, revealing a green ‘I’, but no other new information.

However, this narrowed it down significantly. After considering the remaining letters, the answer INDIE became clear!

We trust you fared well with yesterday’s Wordle. See you again tomorrow!

*These were: HINGE, GENIE, PIXIE, GIMME, MIDGE, BINGE, INDIE, PIQUE, and IMBUE.

Expert Wordle Tips from Tom’s Guide

Want to elevate your Wordle game? Tom’s Guide experts have compiled essential tips to boost your success:

The most crucial advice: Utilize one of the best Wordle start words. We can’t emphasize this enough – it’s a game-changer. Starting without a strategic word is like navigating in the dark. Smart analysts have crunched the numbers, identifying optimal starting words based on letter frequency in the English language and within Wordle answers themselves. Leverage their research!

Secondly, consider letter combinations, particularly at the beginning and end of words. Common pairings like SH, ST, CR, and CH appear frequently. Recognizing these patterns can guide your guesses.

Vowel strategy is also key. While not every Wordle answer is vowel-heavy, many are, some even containing three! A well-chosen start word should incorporate a couple of vowels. If your initial guesses lack vowels, introduce them in your subsequent attempts. And don’t forget ‘Y’ – it often acts as a vowel substitute and frequently appears at the end of words.

Finally, test out possibilities before committing. Wordle allows you to experiment with potential answers without pressing ‘Enter’. Type in likely letters, incorporating any confirmed letters, and mentally swap out letters to explore different options. This technique is invaluable, especially for less common words like FJORD or ISLET.

Wordle officially launched in October 2021, but its origins trace back to June of the same year, marking its first anniversary on June 19, 2022. (Read my thoughts on 5 things Wordle needs to improve to maintain its appeal.)

Wordle’s popularity surged in late 2021, going viral in January 2022 as its charm captivated the world. Its success led to The New York Times acquiring Wordle for a seven-figure sum in early February, making it part of NYT Games.

Play Wordle for free on the NYT Games website here. Both the NYT and creator Josh Wardle have affirmed its free-to-play status. Despite some speculation, Wordle hasn’t become harder since the NYT acquisition.

Wordle’s simple premise involves guessing a five-letter word in six attempts. Feedback is provided after each guess, indicating correct letters in the right position (green), correct letters in the wrong position (yellow), and incorrect letters (gray).

A new puzzle arrives daily, and everyone solves the same word. The puzzle resets at midnight each day. For deeper insights, refer to our What is Wordle? article.
