This Classic WoW Blacksmithing Leveling Guide is designed to provide you with the most efficient and straightforward path to maximize your Blacksmithing skill from 1 to 300.
Blacksmithing is a profession that heavily relies on ores. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to level Blacksmithing in tandem with Mining. If you intend to purchase all necessary materials from the Auction House, be prepared for a significant gold investment. For those looking to level Mining alongside, you can consult our Classic Mining Leveling Guide 1-300 for detailed instructions.
If you are still in the process of leveling your character or starting a new alt, consider using Zygor’s 1-60 Leveling Guide. This guide can significantly accelerate your journey to level 60.

Playing Cataclysm Classic?
If you are playing Cataclysm Classic, it’s important to use the correct guide. Use our Cataclysm Blacksmithing Leveling Guide instead of this one. Cataclysm Classic features changes to trainers and recipes, making the Cataclysm guide essential for leveling from 1-300 in that expansion.
Classic Blacksmithing Trainers

Follow these steps to efficiently level your Blacksmithing profession from 1 to 300 in Classic WoW. This guide focuses on cost-effective and readily available recipes.
1 – 75
- 1 – 30: 35x Rough Grinding Stone – 70 Rough Stone
- Craft Rough Grinding Stones until you reach skill level 30. These are inexpensive to make and use readily available materials. You will need to save approximately 10 of these for later use.
Craft Rough Grinding Stones to level Blacksmithing in early levels.
- 30 – 75: 55x Rough Grinding Stone – 110 Rough Stone
- Continue crafting Rough Grinding Stones up to skill level 75. While the recipe may turn green and then grey, crafting these is still the most material-efficient way to reach skill 75.
Blacksmithing Journeyman
To progress your Blacksmithing skill beyond 75, you need to become a Journeyman Blacksmith. This requires visiting a Journeyman Blacksmith trainer. Note that not all Blacksmithing trainers can teach you this skill. Journeyman training is available from level 10 onwards.
You can learn Journeyman Blacksmithing from these NPCs:
Horde Journeyman Trainers:
- Orgrimmar: Saru Steelfury
- Thunder Bluff: Hanlir Stonekin
- Undercity: Hark নরris

Blacksmithing Artisan
To progress beyond skill level 225, you need to become an Artisan Blacksmith. Seek out an Artisan Blacksmith trainer. Artisan Blacksmithing is available from level 35 onwards.
You can learn Artisan Blacksmithing from Brikk Keencraft in Booty Bay, located in Stranglethorn Vale.
Blacksmithing Specializations
Upon reaching Blacksmithing skill level 200 and character level 40, you can choose to specialize in either Armorsmithing or Weaponsmithing. These specializations allow you to craft powerful, specialized items. Choosing a specialization is optional for leveling Blacksmithing and can be done at any time after meeting the requirements.
For detailed information on becoming an Armorsmith or Weaponsmith, consult our specific guides:
