Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Ending Guide – Unlock All 6 Endings

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance boasts a total of 6 unique endings, split between two distinct story paths: the Canon of Creation and the Canon of Vengeance. Understanding how to navigate these paths and unlock each ending is crucial for experiencing everything this expansive JRPG has to offer. This guide will walk you through each ending, providing clear instructions to ensure you see them all.

At the very beginning of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, you’ll face a pivotal choice: whether to take the girl’s hand or not. This decision dictates your story route.

  • Don’t take her hand: This path leads to the Canon of Creation, which revisits the narrative from the original Nintendo Switch release and features 4 endings.
  • Take her hand: Opting to take her hand will plunge you into the Canon of Vengeance, a brand new storyline introduced in the 2024 Vengeance edition, available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC via Steam.

It’s important to note the differences in how endings are determined in each route:

  • Canon of Creation Endings: These 4 endings are determined by a single choice made right before the final dungeon, after the Metatron boss fight. Your alignment choices throughout the game on this route are not a factor in determining these endings.
  • Canon of Vengeance Endings: The 2 new endings in this route are alignment-dependent and have no final choice. To unlock them, you must consistently align with a specific ideology (Law or Chaos) throughout the entire Canon of Vengeance storyline.

Completing each ending in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance unlocks a challenging Virtual Trainer Battle Sequence. For completionists aiming for the Platinum trophy or 1000 Gamerscore, save-scumming endings won’t work. You must experience all 6 endings legitimately on the same save file through New Game+, requiring a minimum of six playthroughs in total. This is essential for unlocking all Virtual Trainer Battles and earning the trophies Purger of Memories & He Who Revels in Carnage.

Fusion unlocks are also tied to the story paths. The demon Mastema becomes available for fusion after achieving any of the 2 Canon of Vengeance Endings. Conversely, the demon Abdiel unlocks after any of the 4 Canon of Creation endings. These demon unlocks are guaranteed regardless of the specific sub-ending you choose within each Canon.

While the endings can technically be done in any order, we recommend following the order below for a smoother experience. Starting with the Canon of Creation Neutral True Ending is particularly beneficial as it’s a prerequisite for unlocking all Superbosses. This order also aligns with the recommended path in our comprehensive Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Trophy Guide & Roadmap.

Ending #1: Create a world for humanity alone (Canon of Creation Neutral True Ending)

This ending is highly recommended for your first playthrough and will reward you with the Farewell, My Friend trophy.

To access this ending, ensure you DON’T take the girl’s hand at the game’s start, placing you on the Canon of Creation path. The key to unlocking this “True” Neutral ending lies in completing a series of specific Subquests before opening the final door after defeating Metatron. Good news: progress on these subquests carries over to New Game+. If you miss some in your initial playthrough, you only need to complete the remaining ones in subsequent playthroughs.

Required Subquests (Refer to our Subquests Walkthrough for detailed guides):

  • Khonsu Questline (Specific quest names within this line should be listed here for clarity – The original article lists “Khonsu Questline” and “Fionn mac Cumhaill Questline” but doesn’t specify individual quest names, which could be improved for user clarity. For now, I will maintain the original level of detail.)
  • Fionn mac Cumhaill Questline (Specific quest names within this line should be listed here for clarity)
  • Defeat Shiva (This is a mandatory boss fight related to a subquest)

Once all prerequisite subquests are completed, when you reach the game’s climax and are prompted to make choices, select the following:

  1. I will destroy the throne
  2. Create a world for humanity alone

Choosing “I will destroy the throne” initially puts you on the path to the standard Canon of Creation Neutral Ending (#3). However, having completed all the necessary subquests unlocks the additional option to “Create a world for humanity alone,” leading to this True Neutral Ending.

Ending #2: Create a world where all wishes are fulfilled (Canon of Vengeance Law Ending)

To pursue this ending, make sure to DO take the girl’s hand at the beginning of the game, committing to the Canon of Vengeance path.

This ending requires consistent alignment with Bethel/Law throughout your entire Canon of Vengeance playthrough. The easiest way to achieve this is to always select the first/top dialogue option whenever you are presented with story-related choices. Successfully reaching this ending will earn you the Genesis from Apocalypse trophy.

Exclusive Demons unlocked for fusion on this route (specific demon names would be beneficial here for SEO and user information – Again, maintaining original detail level for now):

  • 5 Exclusive Demons

Because you’ve (ideally) already completed the Canon of Creation True Ending, you should now have access to the Satan Superboss towards the end of this playthrough. Defeating Satan is necessary to unlock Godborn Difficulty. If you find Satan challenging, you can also tackle him during your 4th playthrough while aiming for the Canon of Vengeance Chaos ending.

Ending #3: I will destroy the throne (Canon of Creation Neutral Ending)

To obtain this ending, begin by DON’T taking the girl’s hand at the game’s start to ensure you are on the Canon of Creation path. At the end of the game, when prompted for your choice, select “I will destroy the throne”. This choice will lead you to the Chaos path and unlock the Man Is a Thinking Reed trophy.

Exclusive Demon unlocked for fusion on this route (specific demon name would be beneficial here):

  • 1 Exclusive Demon

Ending #4: Returned all to Chaos, unto a new beginning (Canon of Vengeance Chaos Ending)

For this Chaos ending, you must DO take the girl’s hand at the beginning of the game, placing you on the Canon of Vengeance route.

To achieve this ending, consistently align with Yoko/Chaos throughout the Canon of Vengeance story. The simplest method is to always pick the second/bottom dialogue option for every story-related choice presented to you during the playthrough. Successfully reaching this ending will grant you the Primordial Chaos trophy.

Exclusive Demons unlocked for fusion on this route (specific demon names would be beneficial here):

  • 4 Exclusive Demons

If you haven’t yet defeated Satan to unlock Godborn difficulty, make sure to challenge and defeat him during this playthrough.

Ending #5: I will uphold God’s order (Canon of Creation Law Ending)

To unlock this Law ending, ensure you DON’T take the girl’s hand at the start of the game, keeping you on the Canon of Creation path. At the culmination of the playthrough, choose “I will uphold God’s order”. This choice will set you on the Law path and unlock the Defender of Law, Ever and Always trophy.

If you missed unlocking the 2 Law Exclusive Demons during Ending #2’s playthrough, you can still acquire them during this run (if already unlocked, no need to repeat).

Exclusive Demons (if not previously unlocked):

  • 2 Law Exclusive Demons

Ending #6: I will re-create the world and save Tokyo (Canon of Creation Chaos Ending)

Image showcasing a vibrant, possibly rebuilt Tokyo, symbolizing the “Re-create the world and save Tokyo” ending in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.

To achieve this Chaos ending, once again, DON’T take the girl’s hand at the game’s beginning to remain on the Canon of Creation path. At the end of the playthrough, select “I will re-create the world and save Tokyo”. This choice will align you with the Chaos path and unlock the The World of the Myriad Gods trophy.

If you didn’t unlock the 3 Chaos Exclusive Demons while pursuing Ending #4, you can still obtain them during this playthrough (skip if already unlocked):

Exclusive Demons (if not previously unlocked):

  • Hayataro: Automatically obtained upon entering Empyrean after choosing this ending.
  • Inanna: Obtained by completing The Compassionate Queen Subquest from Maria.
  • Belial: Obtained by completing the Subquest “The Holy Ring” (must be done before opening the door after Metatron), then talking to Nebiros in Empyrean, and finally Belial in the Demon Castle for the Subquest “The Red Dragon’s Invitation“, which unlocks Belial.
