The Ultimate War Within Leatherworking Leveling Guide (1-100)

Are you looking to master Leatherworking in World of Warcraft: The War Within? This comprehensive guide will walk you through the fastest and most efficient way to level your Leatherworking skill from 1 to 100.

Leatherworking pairs exceptionally well with Skinning. For the most streamlined experience, we highly recommend leveling these professions in tandem, as Skinning provides the raw materials you’ll need for Leatherworking. If you’re also interested in Skinning, be sure to check out our Skinning Leveling Guide. Alternatively, you can purchase leathers from the Auction House, but be prepared to spend a significant amount of gold.

Finding Your Leatherworking Trainer and Crafting Station

To begin your Leatherworking journey in The War Within, you’ll need to find a Leatherworking trainer. You can learn the War Within Leatherworking skill from the trainer located in Dornogal.

Essential Shopping List for Leatherworking

Below is a shopping list outlining the materials you’ll need to reach Leatherworking skill level 62. The materials required for levels 62-100 are not included in this initial list, as there are various recipes you can choose from for those higher levels.

Remember, the quality of the materials does not matter for leveling purposes. Always purchase the cheapest options available.

Leveling Your Khaz Algar Leatherworking (1-100)

Maximize Your First Craft Bonus

In War Within Leatherworking, you gain 1 Khaz Algar Leatherworking Knowledge talent point each time you craft a new item for the first time. These knowledge points are crucial for profession progression and are limited weekly from other sources.

To capitalize on this “First Craft Bonus,” we advise crafting one mail armor piece and one leather armor piece whenever possible. This strategy allows you to gain both valuable First Craft Bonuses and skill points simultaneously.

Skill Levels 1-7

Craft:

1x Spelunker’s Leather Bands – Requires: 15x Stormcharged Leather, 5x Gloom Chitin
1x Tracker’s Chitin Cuffs – Requires: 5x Stormcharged Leather, 15x Gloom Chitin

Skill Levels 7-16

Craft:

1x Hideseeker’s Hat – Requires: 40x Stormcharged Leather, 40x Gloom Chitin
1x Spelunker’s Leather Footpads – Requires: 20x Stormcharged Leather, 10x Gloom Chitin
1x Tracker’s Chitin Galoshes – Requires: 10x Stormcharged Leather, 20x Gloom Chitin

Skill Levels 16-25

Craft:

1x Spelunker’s Leather Jerkin – Requires: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 15x Gloom Chitin
1x Tracker’s Chitin Hauberk – Requires: 15x Stormcharged Leather, 30x Gloom Chitin
1x Hideseeker’s Pack – Requires: 10x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide

Unlocking Leatherworking Specializations

Upon reaching skill level 25, you’ll unlock Leatherworking specializations.

Eventually, you will be able to master all four specializations, so don’t stress too much over your initial choice. You’ll need 50 skill points to unlock your second specialization, 60 for the third, and 75 for the fourth.

We recommend checking out our dedicated War Within Leatherworking Specialization Guide if you’re looking for example builds and guidance to help you get started:

TWW Leatherworking Specialization Guide and Builds

Skill Levels 25-35

Craft these items first as they will turn yellow at skill level 30, meaning they will provide fewer skill points soon:

1x Spelunker’s Practiced Sash – Requires: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 10x Gloom Chitin
1x Tracker’s Toughened Girdle – Requires: 10x Stormcharged Leather, 30x Gloom Chitin

Then craft this item:

1x Spelunker’s Practiced Mitts – Requires: 25x Stormcharged Leather, 20x Gloom Chitin

Skill Levels 35-44

Craft:

1x Gemcutter’s Apron – Requires: 20x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide
1x Apothecary’s Cap – Requires: 20x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Sunless Carapace
1x Steelsmith’s Apron – Requires: 20x Gloom Chitin, 1x Thunderous Hide

Skill Levels 44-50

Make sure to craft Tracker’s Toughened Shoulderguards first as it may become less efficient sooner.

Craft:

1x Tracker’s Toughened Shoulderguards – Requires: 30x Gloom Chitin, 1x Sunless Carapace
1x Spelunker’s Practiced Shoulders – Requires: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide

Skill Levels 50-56

Craft:

1x Tracker’s Toughened Links – Requires: 30x Gloom Chitin, 1x Sunless Carapace
1x Spelunker’s Practiced Britches – Requires: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide

Skill Levels 56-62

Craft:

1x Spelunker’s Practiced Hat – Requires: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide
1x Tracker’s Toughened Headgear – Requires: 30x Gloom Chitin, 1x Sunless Carapace

Skill Levels 62-70

At this stage, check the Auction House prices for materials. Craft approximately 11 of whichever item is cheaper to make:

11x Tracker’s Toughened Headgear – Requires per craft: 30x Gloom Chitin, 1x Sunless Carapace – Total: 330x Gloom Chitin, 11x Sunless Carapace
11x Spelunker’s Practiced Hat – Requires per craft: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide – Total: 330x Stormcharged Leather, 11x Thunderous Hide

Both recipes will turn green for the last few skill points, so you might need to craft a few extra to reach level 70.

Skill Levels 70-91

If you have access to the recipes in this section, they offer a faster path to level 91. If not, you can skip to the 91-100 section.

Optional Reagents and Leg Armor Kits crafted here are not Bind on Pickup (BoP), meaning you can sell any excess on the Auction House to recoup some of your gold investment. As they don’t require any BoP materials, you can easily reach level 91 if you have enough gold to purchase materials.

If you find you are making a profit selling these items, feel free to craft more than needed for leveling. These recipes will remain green until level 100, ensuring skill gains.

Profession Equipment for Leveling

Every piece of profession equipment you craft provides 2 skill points until you reach level 90. Using your own Artisan’s Acuity for tools you won’t personally use is generally not recommended.

Skill Levels 91-100

Both Optional Reagents and Leg Armors can grant skill points up to level 100. However, the final few levels might progress slowly due to reduced skill gains. If you have unlocked any epic armor recipes through specializations or drops, consider completing a few crafting orders to reach 100. We suggest aiming to stop at skill levels 91, 94, or 97, as each epic armor recipe provides 3 skill points, requiring only 1-3 crafts.

If you intend to craft at least one piece of epic armor for your character, stopping at level 97 is highly recommended.

Remember that every epic armor recipe requires a Spark of Omen, a Bind on Pickup (BoP) crafting reagent obtainable only once every two weeks, and not purchasable from the Auction House. Therefore, utilizing the crafting order system for these final levels is the most efficient way to reach Leatherworking level 100.

Leatherworking Specialization Recipes for Leveling

Recipes learned within the Concrete Chitin specializations will teach you epic armor recipes suitable for leveling.

Within the Flawless Fortes specialization, only the Beastly Bulwarks trait unlocks leveling recipes, specifically (Smoldering Pollen Hauberk and Weathered Stormfront Vest).

Recipe Drops for Leveling

These recipes are unique as they provide skill points without requiring a specific specialization. All other advanced recipes are typically unlocked by investing points into Leatherworking specializations.

Item Recipe Source
Adrenal Surge Clasp Drop: Sikran, Captain of the Sureki
Raid: Nerub-ar Palace
Busy Bee’s Buckle Drop: Goldie Baronbottom
Dungeon: Cinderbrew Meadery
Vambraces of Deepening Darkness Drop: World Creatures

Utilizing Crafting Orders for Skill Points

Once you’ve acquired recipes from specializations, vendors, or drops, you can leverage Crafting Orders to efficiently gain those final skill points.

Public Orders

When accessing the Crafting Orders interface, ensure you click “Search” in the top left corner of the Public Orders tab. Orders do not automatically load and require manual refreshing. Be aware that public crafting orders are often completed very quickly after being posted, so availability can be sporadic.

Unfortunately, Public Orders have not been widely adopted by players in Dragonflight and this trend is expected to continue in The War Within. Many players prefer the control and reliability of guild or personal crafting orders to ensure item quality and material usage. The unpredictable nature of public orders makes them less appealing, leading to limited availability.

Adding to the challenge, Public Orders are realm-specific. You will only see orders from players on your own realm. If you are playing on a low-population realm, you may encounter very few, or even no, Public Orders.

NPC Orders

Thankfully, the new NPC crafting orders system offers a more accessible leveling method. You will frequently receive epic armor crafting orders from NPCs. However, you may need to progress your knowledge points further to be able to fulfill some of these higher-level orders.

These NPC orders are exclusive to you; other players cannot claim them. Think of them as Personal Orders directly from NPCs. Keep in mind that these orders are randomly generated, and there is no guarantee that you will receive orders for recipes you are currently able to craft.

Personal Orders

To effectively level using Personal Orders, advertise your Leatherworking services in the trade chat channel. Most players seeking personal orders are looking for guaranteed Rank 5 (maximum quality) items. Focus your advertising on the recipes you can reliably craft at that top quality level.

Furthermore, consistently monitor the trade channel in Dornogal to identify players actively seeking Leatherworkers for items you can craft. This proactive approach can connect you with potential Personal Order clients.
