This week, I focused on deep cleaning and purging my own master closet. It’s amazing how much better you feel after getting rid of unused items. Let’s dive into the details! (My closet system is from Easy Closets. Learn more about the installation here and reveal here).

Maximizing Space with Smart Storage Solutions

One of the key elements in organizing any space is maximizing its potential with efficient storage solutions. These solutions not only help to keep items neatly arranged but also contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the room.

Utilizing Furniture for Added Storage

I decided to move my Ikea stand to the center of my closet. This instantly created more storage space for items that I don’t use frequently, like out-of-season clothing and accessories. It’s a simple way to add functionality and visual interest to the space.

The Power of Baskets and Labels

Baskets are essential for keeping smaller items organized and easily accessible. I recently purchased several whitewashed baskets from TJ Maxx & Home Goods. Finding the right ones required visiting three different stores! To keep everything organized, I used tags from Target. (The faux flowers can be found here). This is a very simple a bowl full of lemons gift guide.

Categorizing Your Items

Here’s how I organized my running clothes using the baskets:

  • Solid tanks
  • Scripted tanks
  • Lululemon tanks
  • Running shorts
  • Running pants
  • Lululemon shorts
  • Running socks
  • Compression socks
  • Sports Bras

Drawer Dividers and Other Organizers

Drawers are great, but without proper organization, they can quickly become a jumbled mess.

Organizing Smaller Items

The unit on the left contains drawers and more baskets, providing ample space for a variety of items. These baskets hold t-shirts, extra perfume bottles, hats, and wallets.

Seasonal Clothing and Accessories

Another drawer contains my winter scarves, swim shirts, swim suits, swim dresses, and sunscreen. The organizers are from Bed Bath & Beyond but they are no longer available on the website. Using drawer dividers helps keep everything in its place and makes it easy to find what you need.

Running Gear

One drawer is dedicated to running gear, including t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, race equipment, sunglasses, and cold weather gear.

Shoes, Handbags, and Personal Touches

The final touches are what really make a closet feel complete.

Shoe Storage

On the right wall, I have shelves for shoes and accessories. I keep my shoes in clear plastic containers to protect them from dust. You can find similar boxes here.

Accessories

I hung my necklaces on the side of the closet with command hooks.

Handbag Storage

I store all of my handbags in their dust bags to protect them from sunlight and dust.

Adding Personal Touches

Don’t forget to add your own personal touch to your space. Some faux flowers, a few perfume bottles, and a wedding photo warms the space and shows your personality.

Creating a Cozy Space

To complete the challenge, I added a French linen chair to the space. It screams my decorating style (French Farmhouse) and makes the closet more cozy.
