Finding all the Captain’s Journals in “A Pirate’s Life” can seem daunting, but this guide will show you exactly where to look. These journals, glowing invitingly, are usually found in key locations. Here’s a detailed walkthrough to help you collect them all:
Captain Journal One:
Begin your search just outside the pub ship. You’ll notice a wrecked ship with its back opened. Inside this wreck, look for two chess-playing skeletons. This location is crucial for reaching the treasure cabin. To their left, in the corner, is a table. On that table, you’ll discover the first Captain’s Journal.

Captain Journal Two:
Next, head to the pub, situated directly across from the chess skeleton ship. Once inside the pub, make your way to the very top floor.
You’ll need to jump across a gap to reach the other side of the room. On a round table located there, you’ll find the second Captain’s Journal.
Captain Journal Three:
From the central area, turn right at the intersection. Follow the wooden walkway leading to the rear of the eastern ruined ship. If you’re coming from the pub, simply follow the main road.
At the back of the ruined ship, you’ll find a doorway featuring a classic Pirates rider scene (this is also related to another clue for the treasure cabin key). Enter the room and look to the back right corner, where the Captain’s Journal is placed on a small table beside the bed.
Captain Journal Four:
This journal requires progress in the Tall Tale. You’ll need to free the Captain’s skull from its cage. Once you have the skull, follow its directions to the lighthouse; the skull will open the way for you.
Ascend the lighthouse until you’re almost at the top. On the floor where the Captain instructs you to place his head on a skeleton, you’ll find the journal on a stand nearby. It’s nearly impossible to miss.
Captain Journal Five:
WARNING! IF YOU PUT THE CAPTAIN’S SKULL BACK ONTO HIS ORIGINAL BODY YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FINISH THE TREASURE CABIN SIDEQUEST! YOU NEED HIS SKULL TO FINISH IT!
With the key in the Captain’s possession and any other prerequisite tasks completed, make your way to the Golden Hare. It’s easily identifiable as the red-sailed ship to the north. Once there, the Captain will grant you access to the ship. Head up into his cabin. To the right, on a stand, you’ll discover the last journal, rewarding you with the commendation. Similar to the lighthouse journal, this one is hard to miss.
