Alchemy Leveling Guide TWW: Fast & Cost-Effective to 100

Leveling your Alchemy profession in the new World of Warcraft: The War Within (TWW) expansion can significantly enhance your gameplay. Whether you’re looking to craft powerful potions, flasks, or phials, this comprehensive Alchemy Leveling Guide Tww will show you the quickest and most cost-effective path to reach skill level 100 in Khaz Algar Alchemy.

Alchemy pairs exceptionally well with Herbalism. Leveling these professions in tandem allows you to gather your own herbs, drastically reducing the gold you need to spend. If you’re also interested in leveling Herbalism, be sure to check out our War Within Herbalism leveling guide. However, if Herbalism isn’t for you, ensure you have sufficient gold to purchase the necessary herbs, as you’ll require a substantial quantity to max out your Alchemy skill.

Alchemy Trainer and Crafting Station Location

To begin your journey in Khaz Algar Alchemy, you’ll first need to find the Alchemy trainer in Dornogal, the main hub city in The War Within.

Most of the new Alchemy recipes in The War Within require access to a crafting station. Fortunately, you can find the Alchemist’s Lab Bench conveniently located right next to the Alchemy trainer in Dornogal. This makes learning and practicing your new profession incredibly efficient.

Essential Shopping List for Alchemy Leveling

To get your Alchemy skill to around level 30, you’ll need to gather some essential starting materials. Beyond level 30, the material requirements become more variable depending on your chosen leveling methods. Remember, item quality is not important for leveling purposes; prioritize the cheapest options available.

Here’s a shopping list to get you started:

  • Mycobloom: Quantity will vary, but start with at least 100. This is a common herb in the new zones.
  • Gilded Vial: Purchase around 50-100 from the Alchemy supply vendor. These are essential for many early recipes.
  • Blessing Blossom, Arathor’s Spear, Orbinid, Luredrop, Null Lotus, Leyline Residue, Viridescent Spores: Acquire smaller quantities of these herbs (around 20-30 each initially) for experimentation and early crafts. You will need more later, but it’s best to start with a small batch.
  • Crystalline Powder, Writhing Sample: Purchase around 20-30 of each for later potion crafting.

Leveling Your Khaz Algar Alchemy: A Step-by-Step Guide

Certain races have inherent bonuses to Alchemy skill, which can be beneficial during leveling. Goblin characters gain +5 Alchemy skill thanks to their racial passive Better Living Through Chemistry, while Kul Tiran characters have +2 from their Jack of All Trades trait.

Any bonus Alchemy skill means recipes will remain orange (guaranteeing skill-ups) for a longer duration, potentially saving you gold by allowing you to gain more skill points from lower-level recipes.

Leveling from 1 to 30: The Foundation

Following these steps will efficiently take you to approximately level 30 and introduce you to several fundamental Alchemy recipes.

The Gilded Vial is readily available from the Alchemy supply vendor near your trainer, Zudir. While these are sufficient for leveling, higher quality vials are available on the Auction House if needed for other purposes later on.

Step 1: Crafting Coreway Catalyst

  1. Craft Algari Healing Potions: Create 10x Algari Healing Potion using 60x Mycobloom and 50x Gilded Vial. This recipe is a good starting point for skill-ups.
  2. Neutralize for Coreway Catalyst: Use the Neutralize Concoctions ability on the Algari Healing Potions you just crafted. This will yield Coreway Catalyst, a crucial reagent for experimentation and discovering new recipes.

If you need more Coreway Catalyst, continue crafting Algari Healing Potions and neutralizing them. Alternatively, check the Auction House – sometimes it might be cheaper to purchase Algari Healing Potions or even Cavedweller’s Delight (though crafting Cavedweller’s Delight is generally not recommended for cost efficiency).

Step 2: Discovering Basic Potions through Experimentation

Utilize Wild Experimentation with the herbs listed below to discover basic Alchemy potion recipes. Experimenting with each herb for the first time is key to learning these recipes. It’s recommended to do this early to maximize your “First Craft” bonuses from crafting these newly discovered potions.

Experiment with these herbs using Wild Experimentation:

  • Mycobloom
  • Blessing Blossom
  • Arathor’s Spear
  • Orbinid
  • Luredrop

Through experimentation, you will likely discover these essential potions: Algari Mana Potion, Slumbering Soul Serum, and Cavedweller’s Delight.

Step 3: Capitalizing on First Craft Bonuses

Craft these items once each while they still guarantee skill points to take advantage of the “First Craft” bonus:

  1. Slumbering Soul Serum: Craft 1x Slumbering Soul Serum using 4x Mycobloom, 5x Blessing Blossom, 5x Arathor’s Spear, and 5x Gilded Vial.
  2. Petal Powder: Craft 1x Petal Powder using 2x Mycobloom and 6x Arathor’s Spear.

Alchemy Specializations in War Within

Upon reaching Alchemy skill level 25, you’ll unlock Alchemy Specializations. The initial specialization you choose is not critical, as you can eventually unlock all four specializations as you progress with your profession.

However, the way you allocate your Alchemy knowledge points is significant. It’s wise to be thoughtful about spending these points, especially early on. Knowledge points are a limited resource, and you’ll always find yourself wanting more. Consider continuing to level your base Alchemy skill and return to specializing later, once you have a clearer direction in mind.

We highly recommend reviewing our detailed War Within Alchemy Specialization Guide and Builds before committing your knowledge points. This guide offers sample builds and insights to help you decide on the best path for your Alchemist.

Discovery and Experimentation: Deepening Your Knowledge

Continue using Wild Experimentation until your experiments result in a “hazardous outcome.” This is indicated by taking damage and being thrown back. The occurrence of a hazardous outcome is based on chance, typically happening within 1-6 casts of Wild Experimentation.

The first time you experience a hazardous outcome, you will learn the recipe for Meticulous Experimentation.

Unlocking More Recipes Through Continued Experimentation

Keep performing Wild Experimentation until you encounter a hazardous outcome again. The discovery rate for new recipes through Wild Experimentation is relatively low, while the chance of a hazardous outcome is quite high. This means you might experience a hazardous outcome relatively quickly, possibly even on your first craft after learning Meticulous Experimentation.

It’s important to note that there’s a chance you might not discover a new recipe each time you experiment.

After the second hazardous outcome, you’ll receive the Recent Catastrophe debuff, preventing further experimentation for 15 minutes.

The only way to immediately clear the “Recent Catastrophe” debuff is by consuming a Formulated Courage potion. You can learn this recipe by investing 30 knowledge points into the Alchemical Mastery specialization. This is more of a long-term goal rather than an immediate leveling strategy.

Leveling from 30 to 60: Meticulous Experimentation and Alternatives

The most cost-effective method for leveling from 30 to 60 is using Meticulous Experimentation. This craft is inexpensive to make, provides 5 skill points per craft, and offers a higher chance of discovering new recipes compared to Wild Experimentation. However, Meticulous Experimentation has a 1-day cooldown.

Meticulous Experimentation is beneficial to craft daily regardless of leveling speed, as it remains the most reliable way to discover new and potent potions.

If you’re not in a rush to reach level 100 quickly, crafting 5x Meticulous Experimentation daily until it no longer provides multiple skill points around level 60 is a steady approach.

Alternative Leveling Methods (30-60)

If you prefer a faster leveling pace and don’t want to wait for the daily cooldown of Meticulous Experimentation, consider these alternative methods:

Crafting Discovered Potions, Flasks, and Phials

If your experimentation has been fruitful and you’ve discovered valuable Flask, Phial, or Potion recipes, crafting these can be an effective leveling strategy. Initially, craft a small batch of each discovered item to gauge their sellability on the Auction House.

If you find that certain potions, flasks, or phials are selling well, focus on crafting the one that yields the highest profit or minimizes your gold loss. Be aware that some crafted items may sell for less than the cost of their materials, so profitability isn’t always guaranteed.

Thaumaturgy Specialization (Leveling up to 50)

The Thaumaturgy specialization unlocks the Thaumaturgy ability, which allows you to transmute 20 chosen materials into approximately 10-12 different materials and 1-2 Transmutagen.

For example, using Thaumaturgy on 20x Mycobloom might yield results like 5x Storm Dust, 6x Bismuth, and 1-2x Ominous Transmutagen.

Thaumaturgy grants skill points up to level 50. Beyond that, you’ll need to revert to experimentation or crafting potions and flasks to continue leveling.

Leveling from 60 to 100: Flasks and Potions

Crafting Flasks or Potions becomes the most reliable method for leveling Alchemy from 60 to 100. If you haven’t discovered any Flask recipes yet, refer to the “Alternative Recipes” section below for options.

Meticulous Experimentation will remain yellow (offering skill-ups) all the way to level 100. Therefore, continue to craft this daily even as you pursue other methods, especially until you discover a valuable Flask recipe.

Flask Crafting (60-100)

Flasks are an excellent choice for leveling in this range, as they guarantee 2 skill points per craft until level 90, after which they turn yellow and continue to provide skill points up to 100, albeit at a slower rate.

Note that Flask of Saving Graces only provides 1 skill point per craft, requiring you to craft twice as many for the same skill gain.

Flask Reagents
Flask of Tempered Mastery 45x Null Lotus, 90x Leyline Residue, 540x Blessing Blossom, 540x Arathor’s Spear, 90x Gilded Vial
Flask of Tempered Versatility 45x Null Lotus, 90x Viridescent Spores, 540x Orbinid, 540x Arathor’s Spear, 90x Gilded Vial
Flask of Tempered Swiftness 45x Null Lotus, 90x Leyline Residue, 540x Luredrop, 540x Blessing Blossom, 90x Gilded Vial
Flask of Tempered Aggression 45x Null Lotus, 90x Viridescent Spores, 540x Luredrop, 540x Orbinid, 90x Gilded Vial
Flask of Alchemical Chaos 45x Null Lotus, 360x Luredrop, 360x Orbinid, 360x Blessing Blossom, 360x Arathor’s Spear, 90x Gilded Vial
Flask of Saving Graces 60x Null Lotus, 960x Mycobloom, 480x Blessing Blossom, 120x Gilded Vial

Potion Crafting (60-100)

Potions also provide guaranteed skill points up to level 80, after which they turn yellow. They become green at level 90 but still grant skill points all the way to 100, albeit at a reduced rate in the higher levels.

Potion Reagents
Frontline Potion 70x Crystalline Powder, 840x Mycobloom, 280x Blessing Blossom, 280x Arathor’s Spear, 350x Gilded Vial
Grotesque Vial 70x Writhing Sample, 840x Mycobloom, 280x Luredrop, 280x Arathor’s Spear, 350x Gilded Vial
Tempered Potion 70x Writhing Sample, 840x Mycobloom, 280x Luredrop, 280x Arathor’s Spear, 350x Gilded Vial
Potion of Unwavering Focus 70x Crystalline Powder, 840x Mycobloom, 280x Orbinid, 280x Arathor’s Spear, 350x Gilded Vial
Potion of the Reborn Cheetah 70x Writhing Sample, 840x Mycobloom, 280x Orbinid, 280x Arathor’s Spear, 350x Gilded Vial

Alternative Recipes for Leveling (60-100)

Beyond Flasks and Potions, transmutations are the only other recipe type that consistently provides skill points up to level 100. However, several Phials and PvP Flasks can be useful for leveling up to 80.

Thaumaturgy Specialization Transmutations

Every transmutation recipe learned through the Thaumaturgy specialization will grant skill points up to 100. Most transmutations turn yellow at skill level 80 and green at 90. Unfortunately, transmutations are typically subject to a daily cooldown once all charges are used.

Gleaming Glory is a notable exception, as it does not have a cooldown and also provides guaranteed skill-ups all the way to 100. However, maximizing Gleaming Glory as a leveling method requires a significant investment of knowledge points into the Thaumaturgy specialization to produce enough Gleaming Transmutagen.

Profession Phials (Leveling up to 80)

Phial of Truesight, Phial of Bountiful Seasons, Phial of Concentrated Ingenuity, and Phial of Enhanced Ambidexterity all provide skill points up to level 80. However, these recipes become green between skill levels 70-80, meaning you’ll need to craft a larger quantity to gain those final levels.

Phial of Truesight and Phial of Concentrated Ingenuity are likely to be the most valuable and sellable options. Consider crafting a few of each and listing them on the Auction House. If they sell well, you can efficiently use these phials to level up to 80.

PvP Flasks (Leveling up to 80)

Vicious Flask of Classical Spirits, Vicious Flask of Honor, and Vicious Flask of Manifested Fury also grant skill points up to level 80, becoming green for the last 10 skill points.

The recipes for these PvP Flasks are sold by Hotharn in Dornogal for 7500 Honor each. However, these recipes are not Bind-on-Pickup, so you can also purchase them from the Auction House if Honor is a more valuable resource for you.

With this alchemy leveling guide TWW, you are now equipped to efficiently level your Alchemy profession in World of Warcraft: The War Within. Choose the methods that best suit your playstyle and resource availability, and you’ll be crafting powerful alchemical creations in no time!
