Leveling Cataclysm Classic Tailoring: 1-525
Follow these step-by-step instructions to efficiently level your Tailoring profession in Cataclysm Classic.
1 – 75: Apprentice Tailoring
For this initial stage, you will need approximately 59x Coarse Thread. These can be purchased from any Tailoring Supplies vendor located near your trainer. A helpful tip when buying from vendors: use SHIFT + MOUSE CLICK and type in the desired quantity for faster purchasing. Note that threads are sold in stacks of up to 20, and dyes in stacks of 10.
It’s not recommended to buy all threads and dyes upfront, as they can quickly fill your inventory, and you’ll need bag space for crafting materials and items. Material lists will be provided for each leveling section.
- 40 – 67: Craft 35x Linen Belt – Materials: 35 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 35 Coarse Thread
To continue your training, visit your trainer and learn Journeyman Tailoring (requires character level 10).
You’ll now need around 43x Fine Thread for the next phase (75-125). You can sell any leftover Coarse Thread as you won’t need it further.
75 – 125: Journeyman Tailoring
- 100 – 110: Craft 13x Simple Kilt – Materials: 52 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 13 Fine Thread. You might need to craft a few extra if you experience unlucky skill gains.
After reaching skill level 125, return to your trainer to learn Expert Tailoring (requires character level 20).
For the Expert Tailoring stage (125-205), gather the following materials: 36x Blue Dye, 83x Fine Thread, 10x Bleach, and 40x Red Dye.
125 – 205: Expert Tailoring
- 145 – 160: Craft 18x Azure Silk Hood – Materials: 36 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 36 Blue Dye, 18 Fine Thread. Craft a few more if needed to reach skill level 160.
-
170 – 175: Craft 5x Formal White Shirt – Materials: 15 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 10 Bleach, 5 Fine Thread
-
185 – 205: Craft 20x Crimson Silk Vest – Materials: 80 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 40 Fine Thread, 40 Red Dye
Once you hit skill level 205, visit your trainer again to learn Artisan Tailoring (requires character level 35).
Prepare these materials for the Artisan Tailoring phase (205-300): 20x Silken Thread, 71x Heavy Silken Thread, 20x Red Dye, 5x Orange Dye, and 50x Rune Thread.
205 – 300: Artisan Tailoring
-
215 – 220: Craft 5x Orange Mageweave Shirt – Materials: 5 Bolt of Mageweave, 5 Orange Dye, 5 Heavy Silken Thread
-
230 – 250: Craft 23x Black Mageweave Headband – Materials: 69 Bolt of Mageweave, 46 Heavy Silken Thread
- 260 – 280: Craft 25x Runecloth Belt – Materials: 75 Bolt of Runecloth, 25 Rune Thread. This recipe may turn yellow around skill level 270, so you might need to craft a few more.
300 – 350: Master Tailoring
To progress to Master Tailoring, visit your trainer and learn the skill. Rune Threads are sold by Tailoring trainers, making them easily accessible.
-
325 – 331: Craft 6x Bolt of Imbued Netherweave – Materials: 18 Bolt of Netherweave, 12 Arcane Dust. The Pattern: Bolt of Imbued Netherweave is sold by Eiin in Shattrath City.
-
336 – 346: Craft 10x Netherweave Boots – Materials: 60 Bolt of Netherweave, 20 Knothide Leather, 10 Rune Thread
350 – 425: Grand Master Tailoring
Learn Grand Master Tailoring from your trainer (requires character level 65) to continue beyond skill level 350.
-
375 – 380: Craft 5x Frostwoven Belt – Materials: 15 Bolt of Frostweave, 5 Eternium Thread
-
385 – 395: Craft 13x Frostwoven Cowl – Materials: 65 Bolt of Frostweave, 13 Eternium Thread
-
400 – 405: Craft 10x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave – Materials: 20 Bolt of Frostweave, 20 Infinite Dust. Crafting around 10 should get you to 405. If not, make a few Duskweave Leggings.
Keep any extra Bolt of Imbued Frostweave or Duskweave Leggings you make. You will need them at skill level 415.
-
410 – 415: Craft 5x Duskweave Gloves – Materials: 45 Bolt of Frostweave, 5 Eternium Thread
425 – 525: Cataclysm Classic Tailoring
Finally, learn Cataclysm Tailoring from your trainer (requires character level 75) to reach the Cataclysm Classic skill cap of 525.
-
450 – 465: Craft 5x Enchanted Spellthread – Materials: 15x Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 30x Volatile Fire.
Alternatively, if Volatile Fire is expensive on your realm, you can craft these Deathsilk items instead:
- 5x Deathsilk Bracers – Materials: 10 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 10 Eternium Thread
- 5x Deathsilk Boots – Materials: 15 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 10 Eternium Thread
- 5x Deathsilk Leggings – Materials: 15 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 10 Eternium Thread
-
470 – 475: Craft 5x Spiritmend Belt – Materials: 20 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 10 Eternium Thread
-
480 – 485: Craft 5x Spiritmend Leggings – Materials: 20 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 10 Eternium Thread. As an alternative, you can craft Embersilk Bag or Otherworldly Bag up to skill level 490. Each bag grants 5 skill points, so you only need to make two.
- 500 – 505: Choose one of the following to craft 5 times:
- 5x Fireweave Bracers – Materials: 30 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 15 Volatile Fire, 15 Volatile Air
- 5x Emberfire Bracers – Materials: 30 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 20 Volatile Fire, 20 Volatile Water
Consider crafting Dreamcloths as you approach 525. These offer “free” skill-ups since Dreamcloth is a valuable crafted material you’ll likely make anyway.
-
510 – 516: Craft 3x Emberfire Belt – Materials: 30 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 12 Volatile Water, 12 Volatile Fire
-
518 – 520: Craft 1x Fireweave Boots – Materials: 10 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth, 4 Volatile Fire, 4 Volatile Water
