Finding Classic Blacksmithing Trainers

To begin your blacksmithing journey, you must first learn the profession from a trainer. You can learn Classic Blacksmithing once you reach level 5. Trainers are located in major cities and towns throughout Azeroth.

Leveling Your Classic Blacksmithing Skill

Follow these step-by-step instructions to efficiently level your Blacksmithing skill from 1 to 300.

Blacksmithing Apprentice (Skill Level 1 – 75)

  • Skill Level 1 – 75:
    • 30 – 65: Craft approximately 55 x Rough Grinding Stone using 110 Rough Stone. Keep around 10 Rough Grinding Stones for later use.

Becoming a Journeyman Blacksmith (Requires Skill Level 75)

To advance beyond skill level 75, you need to become a Journeyman Blacksmith. This requires seeking out an Expert Blacksmith Trainer. Journeyman Blacksmithing is available from level 10 onwards.

Reaching Expert Blacksmith Status (Requires Skill Level 150)

To continue your blacksmithing progression past level 150, you must achieve Expert Blacksmith status. Locate an Artisan Blacksmith Trainer to learn this advanced skill. Expert Blacksmithing is available from character level 20.

Horde players can find Saru Steelfury in Orgrimmar, while Alliance players should seek out Bengus Deepforge in Ironforge to become Expert Blacksmiths.

Blacksmithing Expert (Skill Level 125 – 225)

  • Skill Level 125 – 225:
    • 140 – 150: Craft 10 x Patterned Bronze Bracers using 50 Bronze Bars and 20 Coarse Grinding Stones.
    • 165 – 190: Craft 25 x Green Iron Bracers using 150 Iron Bars and 25 Green Dyes. Green Dye can be purchased from Tailoring and Leatherworking supply vendors.
    • 200 – 210: Craft 30 x Solid Grinding Stone using 120 Solid Stones. Retain at least 10 Solid Grinding Stones for the 225-235 skill range. Consider making more (around 100 extra) if you plan to craft Plans: Mithril Spurs later.

Blacksmithing Specializations: Armorsmith or Weaponsmith (Requires Skill Level 200)

Upon reaching Blacksmithing skill level 200 and character level 40, you can choose to specialize as either an Armorsmith or a Weaponsmith. Achieving Artisan Blacksmith Status (Requires Skill Level 225)

To progress beyond Blacksmithing skill 225, you must become an Artisan Blacksmith. Seek out a Master Blacksmith Trainer. Artisan Blacksmithing becomes available at character level 35.

Blacksmithing Artisan (Skill Level 225 – 300)

  • Skill Level 225 – 235:

    • Craft 10 x Steel Plate Helm using 140 Steel Bars and 10 Solid Grinding Stones. Horde players should keep approximately 4 of these helms if they plan to pursue Armorsmithing.
  • Skill Level 235 – 250:

    Alternative Recipe:

    • Craft 15 x Mithril Coif using 150 Mithril Bars and 90 Mageweave Cloth.

    • Craft 20 x Mithril Spurs using 80 Mithril Bar and 60 Solid Grinding Stones.

    Alternative Recipes: If Plans: Mithril Spurs are unavailable or too expensive, consider purchasing one of these alternative recipes from the Auction House: Plans: Thorium Bracers, Plans: Thorium Belt, Plans: Radiant Belt.

    Trainer Recipes: If Auction House recipes are not accessible, you can utilize recipes learned directly from trainers:

    • Skill Level 265-270: Craft 5 x Imperial Plate Belt using 110 Thorium Bars, 30 Rugged Leather, and 5 Aquamarines. The recipe for Imperial Plate Belt is obtained from the Imperial Plate Belt quest in Tanaris from Derotain Mudsipper. You will need 20 Thorium Bars to complete the quest.

    Derotain Mudsipper also offers the next two recipes, so ensure you bring at least 80 Thorium Bars to acquire all three recipes!
