Classic WoW Blacksmithing Leveling Guide 1-300

This Classic WoW Blacksmithing Leveling Guide is designed to provide you with the most efficient and straightforward path to maximize your Blacksmithing skill from level 1 to 300.

Blacksmithing is a profession that heavily relies on ores. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to level Blacksmithing in tandem with Mining. Attempting to purchase all necessary materials from the Auction House can become very expensive. If you’re also looking to level your Mining skill, be sure to check out our Classic Mining leveling guide 1-300.

For those still in the process of leveling their character or starting a new alt, Zygor’s 1-60 Leveling Guide is a tool that can significantly accelerate your journey to level 60.

Classic Blacksmithing Trainers Locations

You can begin your Blacksmithing journey by learning the profession from any of the NPCs listed below. However, you must reach character level 5 before you are eligible to learn Blacksmithing.

To find a trainer in-game, simply ask a guard in any major city for directions to the Blacksmithing trainer. Their location will then be marked on your map with a red flag.

  • 30 – 65: Craft approximately 55 x Rough Grinding Stone – Requires 110 Rough Stone. Make sure to save around 10 Rough Grinding Stones as you will need them later.

Journeyman Blacksmithing

To progress your Blacksmithing skill beyond 75, you will need to train Journeyman Blacksmithing. Note that not all Blacksmithing trainers offer this level of training; you need to seek out an Expert Blacksmith. This training is available starting at character level 10.

You can learn Journeyman Blacksmithing from the following NPCs:

Horde Journeyman Blacksmithing Trainers:

Alliance Journeyman Blacksmithing Trainers:

Blacksmithing Level 75 – 125: Journeyman Blacksmith

Expert Blacksmithing

To continue leveling past 150 in Blacksmithing, you must learn Expert Blacksmithing. This level of training is not provided by every trainer; you must find an Artisan Blacksmith. Expert Blacksmithing becomes available at character level 20.

Horde players can learn Expert Blacksmithing from Saru Steelfury in Orgrimmar. Alliance players can find Bengus Deepforge in Ironforge to learn Expert Blacksmithing.

Blacksmithing Level 125 – 225: Expert Blacksmith

  • 165 – 190: Craft 25 x Green Iron Bracers – Requires 150 Iron Bar and 25 Green Dye. Green Dye can be purchased from Tailoring and Leatherworking supply vendors.

  • 200 – 210: Craft 30 x Solid Grinding Stone – Requires 120 Solid Stone. Keep at least 10 of these for the 225-235 skill range. If you intend to acquire the Plans: Mithril Spurs recipe, it’s advisable to keep all of them, as you will need to craft an additional 100 later on (or you can craft them when needed).

Blacksmithing Specializations

Upon reaching Blacksmithing skill level 200 and character level 40, you have the option to specialize in either Armorsmithing or Weaponsmithing. These specializations allow you to craft powerful, specialized items. Choosing a specialization is optional for leveling Blacksmithing and can be decided at a later time.

For detailed guidance on how to become an Armorsmith or Weaponsmith, please refer to our dedicated guides:

If the Auction House recipes are not accessible, you can utilize recipes available directly from a trainer:

  • 265-270: Craft 5 x Imperial Plate Belt – Requires 110 Thorium Bar, 30 Rugged Leather, and 5 Aquamarine. The recipe for Imperial Plate Belt is obtained from the quest (level 50 requirement) given by Derotain Mudsipper in Tanaris. Completing this quest requires 20 Thorium Bars.

Important Trainer Recipe Note: The next two recipes are also available from the same NPC. Ensure you bring at least 80 Thorium Bars with you to purchase all three recipes in one trip!

Blacksmithing Level 270 – 295

Blacksmithing Level 295 – 300

  • 295 – 300: Craft 5 x Imperial Plate Boots – Requires 170 Thorium Bar, 5 Star Ruby, and 5 Aquamarine. The recipe is obtained from the same NPC as the previous recipes, but this quest requires 40 Thorium Bars.
