Earning every trophy in Dark Souls 3 is a challenging but rewarding feat for any dedicated player. While most trophies can be obtained at any point throughout your playthroughs, several are missable if you don’t meet specific conditions or follow certain questlines. This guide will highlight all the missable trophies in Dark Souls 3, ensuring you don’t lock yourself out of 100% completion. Note that DLC content is not required for the base game trophies.
Master of Expression (Gestures)
Gestures are crucial for communication in Dark Souls 3, and some are tied to missable trophies. Here’s how to acquire each missable gesture and avoid locking yourself out:
Toast & Sleep
These two gestures are linked to Siegward of Catarina’s questline.
- Missable: If Siegward dies before you acquire these gestures, or if you fail to progress his questline correctly.
- How to Obtain: Ensure Siegward survives and progress through his questline. You will naturally learn these gestures as you interact with him during his story.
Prostration
This gesture is obtained through interactions with Unbreakable Patches.
- Missable: If you kill Patches before he teaches you the gesture, or if you only encounter him in Firelink Shrine and forgive him immediately.
- How to Obtain:
- Cathedral of the Deep Trap: Allow Patches to trap you in the Cathedral of the Deep. Confront him after the trap, and choose to “forgive” him after he apologizes to receive the Prostration gesture.
- Firelink Shrine (Alternative): If you didn’t encounter him in the Cathedral, do not forgive Patches immediately in Firelink Shrine. He will eventually squat down, and interacting with him in this state will grant you the Patches Squat gesture (which is different from Prostration, but related to Patches’ questline and acknowledging his distinct gestures). Prostration is specifically tied to the Cathedral encounter or not forgiving him right away in Firelink Shrine initially.
Patches Squat
Also obtained from Unbreakable Patches in Firelink Shrine.
- Missable: If you kill Patches before interacting with him while he is squatting.
- How to Obtain: After Patches appears in Firelink Shrine, talk to him. He will eventually enter a squatting position. Interact with him in this position to learn the Patches Squat gesture. He often squats permanently after his initial dialogue.
Duel Bow
This gesture requires you to engage with Yoel of Londor and Londor Pale Shade.
- Missable: If you defeat all bosses before summoning Londor Pale Shade, or if you don’t level up with Yoel to acquire five Dark Sigils.
- How to Obtain:
- Level up five times with Yoel of Londor before curing your Dark Sigil. Yoel is found at the Undead Settlement. Accepting his service will move him to Firelink Shrine. Leveling up with Yoel grants Dark Sigils.
- With five Dark Sigils, you can summon Londor Pale Shade. His summon sign appears near the Farron Keep Perimeter bonfire before the Abyss Watchers fight and before the Pontiff Sulyvahn fight.
- Summon Londor Pale Shade. He will perform the Duel Bow gesture, and you will learn it.
Proper Bow
This gesture is linked to the Rosaria’s Fingers covenant and Yellowfinger Heysel.
- Missable: If you do not join the Rosaria’s Fingers covenant, or if you progress Sirris of the Sunless Realm’s questline instead (as joining Rosaria’s Fingers will fail Sirris’ quest).
- How to Obtain:
- Join the Rosaria’s Fingers covenant in Rosaria’s Bed Chamber (Cathedral of the Deep). This requires offering a Pale Tongue.
- Summon Yellowfinger Heysel. Heysel’s summon sign is found outside the Crucifixion Woods bonfire after joining Rosaria’s Fingers and offering a Pale Tongue.
- Summon Heysel, and he will use the Proper Bow gesture, teaching it to you.
Darkmoon Loyalty
This gesture is exclusively tied to Sirris of the Sunless Realm’s questline.
- Missable: If you join Rosaria’s Fingers covenant before receiving this gesture from Sirris, her questline will fail, and you’ll miss the gesture.
- How to Obtain: Progress Sirris of the Sunless Realm’s questline without joining Rosaria’s Fingers. She will eventually offer you her service in Firelink Shrine and teach you the Darkmoon Loyalty gesture during her questline progression.
By My Sword
This gesture requires summoning Black Hand Gotthard.
- Missable: If you do not summon Black Hand Gotthard for the Abyss Watchers and Pontiff Sulyvahn boss fights during a playthrough.
- How to Obtain: Black Hand Gotthard’s summon sign is available before the Abyss Watchers fight and the Pontiff Sulyvahn fight. Summon him for either (or both) of these boss encounters to learn the By My Sword gesture.
Master of Miracles
This trophy is tied to collecting all Miracles, and one missable aspect relates to Yoel and Yuria of Londor.
- Missable: If you fail to utilize Yoel’s free level-up service before progressing too far, you might miss access to certain Dark Miracles.
- How to Ensure You Don’t Miss Out:
- Find Yoel of Londor at the Undead Settlement and agree to bring him to Firelink Shrine.
- Utilize his “Draw out True Strength” service to level up five times before curing the Dark Sigil.
- After using all five level-ups, Yoel will die, and Yuria of Londor will appear in Firelink Shrine. Yuria sells the Londor Braille Divine Tome, which grants access to Dark Miracles like Dark Blade, Vow of Silence, and Dead Again, essential for the Master of Miracles trophy if you intend to collect all miracles from all sources, although technically, no specific miracle from Yuria is required for the trophy itself as there are enough miracles available without her. However, accessing her shop is part of exploring all content.
- Important Note: While Yuria’s specific miracles are not strictly necessary for the “Master of Miracles” trophy (as you can obtain enough miracles from other sources), failing to progress Yoel’s questline means missing out on content and a merchant, which is relevant for comprehensive playthroughs.
Mound-Makers
Joining the Mound-Makers covenant is missable if you defeat the Cursed Rotted Greatwood boss prematurely or progress Sirris’ questline in a specific way.
- Missable: If you kill the Cursed Rotted Greatwood boss before joining, or if you exclusively follow Sirris’ questline to join the covenant (which skips the initial Hodrick encounter).
- How to Obtain:
- Hodrick Encounter (Recommended & Earlier):
- Before defeating the Cursed Rotted Greatwood boss in the Undead Settlement, start from the Undead Settlement bonfire.
- Head towards the fire pit area and cross the bridge to the right.
- Take the path immediately to the right of the houses, following the cliffside.
- You will find a ladder. Climb up the ladder and proceed forward and slightly to the right, dropping down to an isolated cliff area.
- Here, you will find an NPC with a cage on his back. Do not kill him.
- Interact with the cage on his back to be transported to the Pit of Hollows.
- Talk to Holy Knight Hodrick inside the Pit of Hollows to join the Mound-Makers covenant.
- Sirris Questline (Alternative, Later): If you miss the Hodrick encounter:
- Progress Sirris of the Sunless Realm’s questline. Note: Choosing this path will prevent you from obtaining the Proper Bow gesture as it requires joining Rosaria’s Fingers, which fails Sirris’ quest.
- After defeating the third Lord of Cinder (Aldrich, Devourer of Gods), return to the gate where you entered to fight the Cursed Rotten Greatwood.
- Sirris’ summon sign will be available here. Assist her in her quest.
- After successfully helping Sirris, she will allow you to join the Mound-Makers covenant in Firelink Shrine.
- Hodrick Encounter (Recommended & Earlier):
By being mindful of these missable achievements and following this guide, you can ensure you collect every trophy in Dark Souls 3 and achieve 100% completion!
