Dave the Diver Fishmon Guide: Catching Elusive Weekend Fish

Fishmons are a unique gameplay element in Dave the Diver, introduced as you progress through the main story. These rare fish exclusively appear on weekends, offering an exciting endgame challenge for dedicated players. Every Saturday, Udo will provide you with a clue about the latest Fishmon, including its identity, potential location, and any specific requirements for catching it. Time is of the essence, as these Fishmon are only available until Sunday night, disappearing until the following weekend.

While primarily aimed at completionists, catching Fishmon does offer a worthwhile reward. Each Monday, you’ll receive a monetary bonus ranging from 1,000 to 2,500 gold, depending on your Fishmon collection progress.

It’s important to note that Fishmon are an endgame mechanic, and this guide contains information about later areas and story elements. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

General Tips for Catching Fishmon

Successfully capturing these elusive Fishmon requires a strategic approach. Here are some key tips to keep in mind:

  • Prioritize Sniper Rifles: Fishmon are resilient and cannot be instantly defeated with a single shot, even with high-level weaponry. It’s highly recommended to use the most upgraded sniper rifle available to you. Even the Death Sniper Rifle, despite its instant death ability, will only render Fishmon unconscious on the first shot. Exercise caution and avoid follow-up shots, as they will likely kill the Fishmon.

Fishmon Locations and Catching Guide

Here’s a detailed guide to each Fishmon, including their locations and specific catching strategies:

Warrior Parrotfish

The Warrior Parrotfish is the first Fishmon you’ll encounter. It frequents the surface level, often found on the left side of the Blue Hole Shallows. To catch it, you must wait for its charging attack and shoot it from behind. Direct headshots will negate any damage, so precision is key.

Wizard Barrel Jellyfish

The Wizard Barrel Jellyfish is located near the Yellow Shipwreck, a location visited earlier in the game. This Fishmon has the ability to teleport if you approach too closely. Utilizing your best sniper rifle and maintaining distance is crucial for a successful catch.

Poison Ghost Squid

The elusive Poison Ghost Squid resides in the Blue Hole Depths. To make it vulnerable, you must first shine a UV flashlight on it. While spawn locations can vary, it has been observed to appear more frequently on the right side of the Depths.

Silver Titan Triggerfish

The Silver Titan Triggerfish can be found on the edge of the medium depth areas of the Blue Hole. While sightings have been reported in various locations, it was found on the right edge during testing. This Fishmon requires a Lightning elemental weapon for capture; other damage types will be ineffective.

Spotted Moray Eel

The Spotted Moray Eel is unique as it is the only Fishmon that appears during night dives. Fortunately, it is typically located near the surface and has no specific damage requirements, making it arguably the easiest Fishmon to catch.

Prismatic Fan Fish

The Prismatic Fan Fish is exclusive to the Underwater Lake, a location likely visited during a Sea People side quest. Upon damaging this Fishmon, duplicates will spawn. You must identify and target the real Fan Fish among the clones. While they have low health, using an upgraded Triple Axel or Penta Axel is recommended as the multiple pellets can quickly eliminate clones.

Explosive Vampire Squid

Similar in ease to the Spotted Moray Eel, the Explosive Vampire Squid is consistently found in the lowest section of the Glacial Passage. It has no special damage requirements, making the Death Sniper Rifle an efficient tool for quickly catching it.

Ice Stringray

The Ice Stringray inhabits the ceilings of the first puzzle room within the Glacial Area (top right corner of the map). Due to its icy nature, it is vulnerable only to fire or explosive damage.

Magma Turtle

The final Fishmon, the Magma Turtle, resides in the caves of the Hydrothermal Vents. The easiest access is to descend straight down upon starting a Glacial Area dive and entering the cave. A glowing door on the left will lead you to it. Adapted to extreme heat, the Magma Turtle is only susceptible to ice damage. An Ultra Ice Gun is recommended, but even an Ice Harpoon Tip can suffice.

Conclusion

Hunting Fishmon in Dave the Diver provides a rewarding endgame activity, encouraging players to explore different locations and utilize various combat strategies. Remember to check in with Udo every Saturday to begin your weekend Fishmon hunt and reap the monetary rewards each Monday!
