Roadmap to Platinum in Dead Space Remake

This trophy roadmap is designed to maximize efficiency and enjoyment while securing every trophy in Dead Space Remake. We recommend a 3-playthrough approach for a smoother experience, especially tackling the formidable Impossible difficulty.

Step 1: Initial Playthrough – Story & Collectibles (Any Difficulty)

Your first playthrough should focus on experiencing the narrative and gathering all collectibles. Playing on Easy or Medium difficulty will allow you to familiarize yourself with the Ishimura, enemy types, and weapon mechanics without excessive pressure.

Utilize a comprehensive Dead Space Remake Collectibles Guide to ensure you don’t miss any Logs, Schematics, Weapon Upgrades, and side missions. This step will naturally unlock a significant portion of the trophies, including those related to story progression, weapon usage, and general gameplay actions.

While exploring, keep an eye out for opportunities to complete miscellaneous trophies tied to specific locations and chapters. Remember that most of the USG Ishimura is explorable until the end of Chapter 11, offering ample time to backtrack and collect anything missed. Chapter 9 is an exception; areas within the USM Valor are missable, so ensure thorough exploration during this chapter.

Missable Trophies & Locations during Step 1:

  • Front Toward Enemy – Chapter 9 – USM Valor (Shooting Gallery)
  • Z-Baller – Chapter 10 – Crew Deck (Zero-G Basketball)
  • There’s Always Peng! – Chapter 11 – Cargo Bay (Peng Treasure)

Side Missions to Complete during Step 1:

  • Whole Again (Scientific Methods) – Start: Chapter 2, Complete: Chapter 10
  • Full Clearance (You Are Not Authorized) – Start: Chapter 4, Complete: Chapter 10
  • Final Regeneration (Premeditated Malpractice) – Start: Chapter 6, Complete: Chapter 7

Start the “Whole Again” side mission by collecting the log in Dr. Brennan’s office in Chapter 2.

Step 2: New Game Plus – Plasma Cutter Only & Marker Fragments

Initiate a New Game Plus playthrough on any difficulty. Your previous playthrough’s progress carries over, including collectibles and upgrades. This playthrough has two primary objectives:

  1. One Gun Trophy: Complete the entire game using only the Plasma Cutter. Avoid firing any other weapon. Melee attacks, stomps, kinesis, and environmental kills are permitted. Store other weapons to prevent accidental use.
  2. Reunion Trophy (Alternative Ending): Collect all 12 Marker Fragments, a new collectible exclusive to New Game Plus. These are essential for unlocking the alternative ending.

Refer to the Dead Space Remake Marker Fragments Locations Guide to find all fragments. Before the Point of No Return in Chapter 11, place the collected Marker Fragments in Captain Mathius’ office in Executive Chambers (Crew Deck). Completing the game after this will unlock the alternative ending and the Reunion trophy.

Aim to fully upgrade your Plasma Cutter and Suit during this playthrough. Gather any remaining weapon upgrades and schematics if missed in the first playthrough. By the end of New Game Plus, you should ideally have all weapons, all weapon upgrades, and a Level 6 Suit, setting you up for the final step.

Step 3: Impossible Difficulty – The Ultimate Challenge

The final hurdle is completing the game on Impossible difficulty for the Untouchable trophy. Impossible mode elevates the challenge by:

  • Setting difficulty to Hard damage values.
  • Disabling autosaves, relying solely on manual saves in a single save slot.
  • Permadeath: Dying reverts your save back to Hard difficulty, losing Impossible progress.

Despite the permadeath aspect, Impossible difficulty in the remake is considered more manageable than the original due to the ability to manually save frequently.

PS+ Save Backups (Recommended): PlayStation Plus subscribers can leverage cloud saves to mitigate the permadeath risk. Regularly back up your save to the cloud. In case of death, download the cloud save to revert to your last save point, effectively bypassing the permadeath penalty. Disable auto-sync to prevent accidental overwrites.

No PS+ Strategy: Even without PS+, Impossible is achievable. Save often and strategically. If you are about to die, immediately pause and quit the game. Upon reloading, you’ll revert to your last manual save, minimizing progress loss.

Recommended Loadout for Impossible Difficulty:

  • Plasma Cutter: Versatile, limb-dismembering power.
  • Pulse Rifle: High fire rate, stopping power, grenade launcher alt-fire for crowd control.
  • Line Gun: Wide beam for limb severing, trap alt-fire for defensive setups.
  • Force Gun: Crowd control via knockback, flesh stripping for easier dismemberment.

Focus on upgrading these four weapons and your suit. Ignore other weapons to conserve nodes.

Essential Tips for Impossible Difficulty:

  • Smart Upgrading: Upgrade weapon capacity and health strategically when ammo is low or health is depleted to maximize resource efficiency as upgrades refill these.
  • Kinesis and Stasis Abuse: Utilize kinesis for environmental weaponization and stasis for crowd control and tactical advantage. Stasis stations provide frequent recharge opportunities.
  • Environmental Kills: Master using kinesis to launch explosive canisters, stasis canisters, and metal rods at enemies for resource-free kills. Metal rods can pin and instantly kill Necromorphs.
  • Enemy and Trap Knowledge: Learn enemy spawn locations and trap placements to avoid surprises and plan encounters proactively.
  • Enemy-Specific Tactics: Adapt combat strategies for each Necromorph type. Prioritize Infectors, avoid shooting Pregnants’ stomachs, use stasis against Brutes, and consider skipping Guardians to conserve ammo.
  • Avoid Unnecessary Fights: Stasis and bypass enemies in hallways to conserve resources when possible.
  • Sell Excess Items: Sell surplus oxygen tanks, stasis modules, and ammo for unused weapons to gain credits for nodes, health, and ammo for your core weapons.
  • Regular Saving: Save at every opportunity. If a fight goes poorly, pause and quit to reload your last save and retry, minimizing resource loss.

Infinite Money Exploit (Potential Patch Risk):

As of January 31, 2023, an infinite money exploit exists using the Pulse Rifle and workbench upgrades. This can significantly ease resource management for your Impossible run.

  1. Requirements: Minimum 6 Nodes (10-12 recommended), Pulse Rifle.
  2. Location: Medical Tram Station (Workbench and Shop proximity).
  3. Process:
    • Equip Pulse Rifle, fire all ammo into the floor using grenade mode ().
    • Buy one Capacity upgrade for Pulse Rifle at the workbench.
    • Fire the newly gained ammo into the floor.
    • Repeat buying one Capacity upgrade and firing ammo to the floor.
    • After 5-9 Capacity upgrades, collect all ammo from the floor.
    • Sell the collected ammo at the Shop for profit.
    • Reset Pulse Rifle upgrades at the workbench for 5,000 credits.
    • Repeat the process for infinite credits.

Use the earned credits to purchase health packs and ammo for your Impossible playthrough, making it significantly less daunting.

By following these steps and strategies, you will efficiently navigate Dead Space Remake’s challenges and unlock the Platinum trophy, proving your mastery over the horrors of the USG Ishimura.
