Classic WoW Engineering Leveling Guide: Fast & Easy to 1-300

Are you looking to max out your Engineering skill in Classic WoW? This comprehensive Engineering Guide will show you the quickest and simplest path to level your Engineering from 1 to 300.

For the most efficient and cost-effective leveling experience, Engineering pairs exceptionally well with Mining. By leveling these professions in tandem, you’ll gather many of the necessary materials yourself, saving significant gold. If you’re also leveling Mining, be sure to check out our Classic Mining leveling guide 1-300. If you choose not to level Mining, you will need to purchase all required materials from the Auction House.

If you are still in the process of leveling your character or starting a new alt, consider using Zygor’s 1-60 Leveling Guide. It’s a fantastic resource to accelerate your journey to level 60.

Please note that Cataclysm Classic has introduced significant changes to trainers and recipes. If you are playing Cataclysm Classic, it is recommended to use our dedicated Cataclysm Engineering leveling guide for the most accurate and efficient information.

Classic WoW Engineering Trainer Location

To begin your Engineering journey in Classic WoW, you’ll need to find an Engineering trainer. You can learn Apprentice Engineering from any of the trainers listed below once you reach level 5.

If you’re unsure where to find a trainer, simply ask any guard in a major city for directions to the Engineering trainer. Their location will be conveniently marked on your map with a red flag.

For Horde players, Orgrimmar is a highly recommended starting location, and for Alliance players, Ironforge is ideal. Both cities have trainers that can teach you up to Expert Engineering, allowing you to stay in one location until you reach skill level 200. Trainers in other major cities typically only teach Journeyman recipes, eventually requiring you to travel to Orgrimmar or Ironforge anyway for further training.

Leveling Classic Engineering

Before you start crafting, make sure you purchase a Blacksmith Hammer from a Blacksmithing or Engineering supply vendor, usually located near your trainer. You can also purchase one from any general or trade goods vendor.

Gnome Engineering Racial Bonus

If you are playing a Gnome character, you benefit from a +15 Engineering skill bonus due to their racial passive Engineering Specialization. This bonus means recipes will remain orange (guaranteed skill-up) for 15 extra skill points, potentially saving you gold by allowing you to craft lower-level recipes for longer.

Apprentice Engineering (1 – 75)

  • 1 – 30 30 x Handful of Copper Bolts – 30 Copper Bar. You will need approximately 30 of these later, so keep them.

  • 30 – 50 30 x Handful of Copper Bolts – If you didn’t reach 50 by making 30, continue until you do.

  • 50 – 75 30 x Rough Copper Bomb – 30 Copper Bar, 30 Handful of Copper Bolts, 60 Rough Blasting Powder, 30 Linen Cloth.

Journeyman Engineering (75 – 150)

To progress beyond skill level 75, you must learn Journeyman Engineering. Not all Engineering trainers offer this level of training; you need to find a Journeyman or higher Engineer trainer. (Requires character level 10)

You can learn Journeyman Engineering from these NPCs:

Horde trainers:

Alliance trainers:

  • 215 – 225 17 x Advanced Target Dummy – 17 Bronze Framework, 17 Solid Blasting Powder, 34 Wool Cloth.

Artisan Engineering (225 – 300)

To advance past skill level 225, you must learn Artisan Engineering. This highest level of training requires you to seek out an Artisan Engineer.

You can learn Artisan Engineering from Buzzek Bracketswing in Tanaris, Gadgetzan. He is located just outside the Inn, on the left side near the mailbox. You need to be level 35 or higher to learn from him.

Engineering Specializations

At Engineering skill level 200, you have the option to specialize in either Gnomish Engineer or Goblin Engineer. Some crafted items and gadgets require a specific specialization to use, while others can be used by any engineer, regardless of specialization. Fortunately, most recipes crafted by one specialization can be used by both.

For detailed information on choosing the right specialization for you, please refer to our comprehensive guide:
