Leveling WotLK Engineering
First, purchase a Blacksmith Hammer from a Blacksmith supply vendor, typically located near your trainer, or any general/trade goods vendor. This tool is essential for your Engineering endeavors.
Gnome Engineering Skill Racial Bonus
Gnome characters benefit from a +15 Engineering skill bonus thanks to their Engineering Specialization racial passive. This bonus means recipes remain orange for 15 additional skill points, potentially saving you gold by crafting lower-level recipes for longer.
1 – 75: Apprentice Engineering

30 – 50: Craft 30x Handful of Copper Bolts – 30 Copper Bar. You’ll need approximately 30 of these later in your leveling process.

Visit your Engineering trainer to learn Journeyman Engineering, which requires character level 10.

150 – 160: Craft 15x Bronze Framework – 30 Bronze Bar, 15 Medium Leather, 15 Wool Cloth. Hold onto these as you may need them later. You might gain more than 10 skill points from crafting these, potentially pushing you closer to 160. Stop crafting them once they turn green and only make more if needed for later recipes.

175 – 176: Craft 1x Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor – 4 Steel Bar. Keep this item as it’s used in several Engineering recipes.

195 – 200: Craft 7x Mithril Tube – 21 Mithril Bar. Stop crafting these at skill level 200. Keep at least 6 Mithril Tubes if you plan to specialize in Gnomish Engineering at skill level 200.
Artisan Engineering (225 – 300)
Visit your trainer again to learn Artisan Engineering, which requires character level 35.
At Engineering skill level 200, you have the option to specialize in either Gnomish Engineer or Goblin Engineer. Certain items require a specific specialization to use, while others are crafted by one specialization but usable by any engineer. Luckily, most recipes crafted by one specialization can be used by both.

Craft approximately 50x Handful of Cobalt Bolts and 24x Volatile Blasting Trigger for later use. Craft these now, and you should reach skill level 375 or higher. Ensure you craft Handful of Cobalt Bolts before Volatile Blasting Trigger. Volatile Blasting Trigger stays yellow longer, making it more efficient to craft later. Note that crafting Handful of Cobalt Bolts can yield 1 or 3 bolts, and Volatile Blasting Trigger yields 2 per craft. Save both of these crafted items.
375 – 435

385 – 390: Craft 7x Explosive Decoy – 7 Frostweave Cloth, 21 Volatile Blasting Trigger. You might need to craft a few more to reach the next skill bracket.

If you plan to craft the portable mailbox MOLL-E, craft it at skill level 429 for a guaranteed skill point. The goggles are nearing green and have a lower chance of granting a skill point at 429.
435 – 450
Craft 30x Gnomish Army Knife – 300 Saronite Bar, 30 Skinning Knife, 30 Mining Pick, 30 Blacksmith Hammer. This recipe will turn green for the last 5 skill points, potentially requiring you to craft more than 30. However, it remains cheaper than other options, even if you need to craft 10 for a single skill point.
You can purchase Blacksmith Hammer from Bryan Landers near your trainer. Skinning Knife is sold by Ranid Glowergold.
Epic Engineering Goggles and Wormhole Generator (448-450)
To level Engineering to 450, instead of stopping at 440, consider crafting the Wormhole Generator: Northrend and your desired epic Engineering Helm at skill level 448.
Gnomish Army Knife turns green at 445, requiring many crafts for the last 2 points (sometimes 10-20 per point). However, the Goggles and Wormhole Generator: Northrend remain orange until 450, potentially saving you gold.
If you don’t need the goggles, craft the Wormhole Generator: Northrend at skill level 449.
