This guide serves as your minimalist yet comprehensive companion to conquering Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster. It’s designed for players who appreciate a streamlined approach, avoiding lengthy, dense walkthroughs, but also for those determined to achieve a perfect 100% run. While the in-game map is invaluable for general dungeon exploration and chest tracking, this guide will highlight crucial secret passages and missable elements that the map alone won’t reveal.

Final Fantasy V distinguishes itself within the series with its intricate multi-world structure and the introduction of Blue Magic, adding layers of complexity that necessitate careful planning and attention to detail. Key items, unique enemies, and powerful spells can be permanently missed if you progress carelessly between worlds.

What This Strategy Guide Offers:

  • A concise, minimalist walkthrough directing you through each essential step of the game.
  • Clear indicators of missable treasure chests and enemies, ensuring you achieve 100% completion in your bestiary and item collection.
  • Precise instructions on when and where to acquire every Blue Magic spell as early as possible.

What This Strategy Guide Does Not Offer:

  • Extensive boss battle strategies or detailed party build recommendations beyond rudimentary tips. For in-depth boss strategies, refer to our dedicated Final Fantasy V Boss Guide.
  • Exhaustive dungeon walkthroughs. While we will provide concise directions for navigating trickier dungeons and securing all chests, this guide prioritizes efficiency and missable content over detailed area maps.

1. Prologue: Tule and the Wind Shrine

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

  • The game begins with you controlling Boko the chocobo. You cannot dismount yet. Proceed east and then north towards the meteor. After the initial tutorial battle, head northeast to encounter Galuf. Once Galuf and Lenna depart, locate a hidden chest containing a Phoenix Down to the southeast, concealed beneath some leaves. Return west to Boko and continue onward.

Town Item Collection Note: Towns in Final Fantasy V often contain hidden items and chests. The in-game map helpfully tracks the number of items found and remaining in each town. For the most part, this guide will not explicitly detail the locations of easily discoverable town items unless they are particularly well-hidden. Most items are invisible and can be found by examining barrels, pots, bushes, and other environmental elements within towns.

Crucially, this guide will specifically highlight any missable items to prevent you from locking yourself out of 100% completion.

Brave Blade / Chicken Knife Weapon Note: It’s important to be aware early on that much later in the game, you’ll have a choice between obtaining the powerful Brave Blade or the unique Chicken Knife. You can only choose one weapon; acquiring both is impossible.

The key factor influencing these weapons is your flee count from battles.

The Brave Blade starts with a formidable Attack Power of 150 and grants a +5 Strength bonus. However, its attack power decreases every time you flee from battle, even before you actually acquire the weapon. If the Brave Blade is your goal, you must commit to a no-flee playstyle.

Conversely, the Chicken Knife becomes stronger the more you flee from battles, capping at an Attack Power of 127 after 254 escapes. While the Chicken Knife theoretically boasts higher damage potential due to agility stat scaling, it also carries a 25% chance of forcing your party to automatically flee when used in combat.

The choice between these powerful weapons is yours to make, shaping your gameplay style for the latter part of the game.

  • Back on the world map, proceed northwest for a scene in a canyon. Continue heading north, engaging in two goblin battles along the way, before reuniting with Lenna and Galuf.
  • Once again on the world map, continue north until you reach a cave entrance.
  • This small cave, often referred to as the ‘Road to Tule’, features a healing spring, three distinct enemy types, and a single chest. Utilize your in-game map to ensure you collect all items in this area.
    • Steel Bat
    • Devil Crab
    • Stroper
  • Shortly, you will enter the Pirate’s Hideout. After a series of scenes, you will find yourself aboard the Pirate Ship.

Item Collection Note: Checking your item collection at this point will reveal that you’ve only found 1 out of 4 items in the Pirate Hideout. Don’t worry; you will obtain the remaining items shortly.

Bestiary Note: Due to Final Fantasy V’s multi-world structure, more bestiary entries are missable compared to previous Final Fantasy games. While the three enemies in the Road to Tule are not missable, it’s generally good practice to encounter new enemies as early as possible to ensure they are added to your bestiary.

  • When you first gain control of the pirate ship, a crewmate will offer to take over navigation. Decline this offer to maintain control of the ship on the world map. Then, head northwest to reach the first town of the game, Tule.

Tule

  • Tule houses 3 items and 3 chests in the west house, a tutorial location that explains game basics. There are 5 additional items scattered throughout the town:
    • Barrel east of the Inn.
    • Two in barrels/crates in the town center.
    • One in a bush in the far northwest of town.
    • One in a crate in the far northeast.
  • Play the piano (1/8) located in the pub. You must sit on the stool and observe the dancers before you can play. There are 8 pianos in total throughout the game, and playing all of them unlocks an achievement and a new Bard song.
  • You can visit the upstairs of the pub for a scene with Faris.
  • Purchase armor and a Broadsword for Galuf. Stock up on essential Magic spells.
  • Remember the Brave Blade / Chicken Knife note mentioned earlier regarding fleeing battles. This guide will not reiterate this point unless specifically relevant.

Journey to the Wind Shrine

  • On the world map surrounding Tule, you can encounter three new enemy types:
    • Killer Bee
    • Nutkin
    • Stray Cat (relatively uncommon)
  • Near the Torna Canal to the east, on the narrow strips of land, you can battle three more enemy types:
    • Gatling
    • Big Horn
    • Bandersnatch (somewhat challenging at low levels; consider gaining a few levels before engaging).

Wind Shrine

  • Once you have added the world map enemies to your bestiary, proceed to the Wind Shrine, located far to the northeast of Tule. This dungeon contains 4 enemy types and 4 chests.
    • Black Goblin
    • White Serpent
    • Moldwynd
    • Mani Wizard
  • Enter the west room for a scene. The pot in this room provides a full party heal. Speak to the NPC to the left of the pot to receive 5 free Potions.
  • The Wind Shrine is a relatively short dungeon. You can obtain 3 of the 4 chests before confronting the Wing Raptor boss. (Consult our Final Fantasy V Boss Guide for detailed battle strategies if needed). The final chest is located in the southeast corner of the room after the boss encounter. Always check your in-game map to verify complete item collection in each area.
  • After defeating Wing Raptor, you’ll witness a lengthy scene concerning the crystals. Exit the dungeon through the portal to the north.
  • Listen to Boko’s Jobs tutorial if you wish. Jobs are a core mechanic in FF5. While this guide will provide some direction, you can also refer to our FF5 Jobs guide for help with the best jobs and skills for deeper insights.

Blue Magic Tutorial: You now have access to your first set of Jobs, including the Blue Mage, a class making its series debut. Blue Mages can learn specific abilities from enemies by being targeted by those attacks in battle. This guide will pinpoint the earliest opportunities to learn every Blue Magic spell in the game.

Key tips for Blue Magic learning:

  • Only one character needs to learn a Blue Magic spell for all characters to be able to utilize it.
  • The learning character does not need to survive the attack to learn it.
  • You must win the battle to learn Blue Magic; fleeing is not an option.
  • As you level up the Blue Mage job, you can unlock the “Learn” passive ability. Equipping this ability allows a character to learn Blue Magic even while using a different Job class. However, the “Learn” ability must be equipped.

We also provide a dedicated guide for Blue Magic Locations, but this walkthrough will also mention the earliest learning opportunities for each spell.

Available Blue Magic spells you can learn now:Goblin Punch – From Black Goblins in the Wind Shrine.Aero – From Moldwynds in the Wind Shrine.Vampire – From Steel Bats in the Road to Tule cave.

  • To continue the main story, return to Tule and enter the large northern house. Speak to the NPC inside. Following several scenes, leave Tule for another scene, then board your ship for yet another scene. Finally, head south and re-enter the Pirate Hideout cave.
  • Back in the pirate cave area, locate and press a skull button to unlock a northwestern room containing three additional chests. This completes the item collection for this area. Boko can also be found in another room here. Now, exit the Pirate Hideout completely.

2. Journey to the Water Crystal

Torna Canal

  • Now, navigate to the Torna Canal, located east of Tule in the pincer-shaped landmass. The Torna Canal is a straightforward ‘dungeon’ with a single path and no chests to collect. However, both enemy types found here are missable, so ensure you encounter them for your bestiary.
    • Sucker (MISSABLE)
    • Octokraken (MISSABLE)

Missable Enemies Note: Encounter both Sucker and Octokraken enemies within the Torna Canal before proceeding.

  • Utilize lightning-based attacks against the Karlabos boss. Be aware that once you engage this boss, you will be unable to return to the Wind Shrine/Tule area for a significant portion of the game.

Ship Graveyard

  • After several scenes, you will arrive at the Ship Graveyard. This area features 4 enemy types:
    • Skeleton
    • Calcruthl
    • Undead Hulk
    • Mind Flusher
  • Immediately after disembarking from the ship, head south of the plank located east of the ship, onto the rock formation. Carefully navigate your way eastward to discover the Flail weapon item.
  • Despite its initial appearance, the rest of the dungeon is fairly linear. You will eventually reach a minor fork in the path where you can proceed north or south. Head north first to collect a chest, then backtrack and head south to continue the main path.
  • You will then witness a scene where the crew realizes Faris is a woman. Continue along the path until you reach the outer area again, then head east and south. Enter the beached ship to find a world map and three chests. Collecting these should complete the Item Collection for the Ship Graveyard. If your map indicates a missing chest, backtrack to locate it.
  • You will then face the Siren boss. After three turns, Siren will transform into an undead form. At this point, use Fire-based attacks. Note that Phoenix Downs are ineffective in this battle.

Overworld – Carwen Area

  • After defeating Siren, you will return to the world map. A new enemy, the Tatou, appears here, alongside some familiar enemies. Head south to the town of Carwen.
    • Gatling
    • Big Horn
    • Tatou (NEW)
    • Garula (NEW)
  • You can encounter a Garula in random battles west of Carwen. This Garula will not attack and yields no EXP. However, it is marked in your bestiary, so encounter it at least once for completion.

Carwen

  • Carwen offers a range of new equipment and magic for purchase. There are three hidden items to find in town:
    • One in a barrel in the center of town.
    • One in a secret passage in the pub (use the Thief ability “Find Passages” to reveal it).
    • One in a crate south of the pub. Head directly south from the pub’s sign to find it.
  • Make sure to play the Piano in the Carwen pub (2/8).
  • To progress the story, speak to the green-haired woman south of the pub, then talk to a man upstairs in the pub. After these conversations, leave Carwen.
  • Your next destination is North Mountain, located to the north of Carwen.

North Mountain

  • North Mountain is a linear dungeon with 4 enemy types and 2 easily located chests. Use your in-game map to pinpoint the chest locations.
    • Rock Slug
    • Gaelicat
    • Cockatrice
    • Headstone

Blue Magic Note:
Flash – Can be learned from Headstones on North Mountain. You need to use an Ether on them to prompt them to use Flash, and you may have limited Ethers at this point. Flash can also be learned elsewhere later, so don’t be overly concerned if you miss it here.

  • AVOID STEPPING ON THE PURPLE FLOWERS as they inflict poison status.
  • The boss encounter (Magissa / Forza) is relatively straightforward. Consult our boss guide if you require specific strategies.
  • After the battle and subsequent scene, you will be flying on Hiryu. Fly back to Castle Tycoon (fly south back to your starting area and over the meteorite).

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

Castle Tycoon

  • On the northeast side of the courtyard, there is a hidden path leading to the east tower, containing two chests. Interestingly, these chests do not appear to be counted towards the in-game Item Collection tally. They may be excluded due to Lone Wolf the Pickpocket’s potential theft of these items (more on him later).
  • Enter the throne room for a scene.
  • Afterwards, you can fully explore the castle to collect the remaining chests and items. None are particularly difficult to find.
    • A west passage in the courtyard only becomes accessible after viewing the scene in the throne room.

Walse & Walse Castle

  • Proceed to Walse, the town located south of Carwen. The single hidden item in Walse town is in the southwest house, accessible via the moat. Walse offers a wide selection of shops, including magic for Time Mages and Summoners, Jobs you don’t yet possess.

Missable Item Note: The Iron Shield and Kenpo Gi available for purchase in Walse are technically missable items. Purchase one of each if you are aiming for a complete item collection.

  • Next, enter Walse Castle. Go to the upper right room from the entrance, then descend the stairs to find three items.
  • For now, avoid the stairs leading downwards in the entrance room. Walse Castle contains more items, chests, and enemies deeper within that you can access at this point. However, these deeper areas contain enemies significantly stronger than you should be facing currently. We will return to these areas later. (Specifically, the Jackanapes enemies).
    • If you choose to disregard this advice and explore deeper now, do not release Lone Wolf from the prison cell. Just leave him imprisoned. More on this later.
    • If you still proceed deeper, you could utilize the Thief’s “Scram” ability to flee battles, but remember the Brave Blade’s flee-penalty.
    • Rest assured, we will revisit Walse Castle later to fully explore it.

Walse Tower

Once prepared, head to Walse Tower, located northwest of Walse Castle on the world map. Walse Tower features 5 enemy types and 4 chests.

One-Time-Only Area Warning – Walse Tower: Walse Tower is a one-time-only area. Once completed, you can never return. This means you must encounter all 5 enemy types and collect all 4 chests before defeating the Garula boss at the tower’s peak.

For Item Collection tracking, note that once the tower is completed, you will no longer be able to check your in-game map for chest completion status within the tower. To ensure you have collected everything, double-check your map before you defeat Garula.

  • Be sure to encounter all of these enemies within Walse Tower. While some may technically reappear later, it is simpler to collect them all here:
    • Elf Toad
    • Ice Soldier
    • Ricard Mage
    • Wyvern
    • Pas de Seul

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

Blue Magic Note:
Pond’s Chorus – Learned from Elf Toads in Walse Tower. They must be alone in battle to use this ability.

  • The tower’s layout is otherwise linear. Some chests are located up climbable vines. The boss is powerful but manageable at this stage.
  • After defeating the boss and obtaining new Jobs (you will collect 5 crystal shards, with the final one acquired much later), return to Walse Castle and speak to the king in his bedroom. Then, head to the meteorite where Walse Tower once stood and use the warp portal to reach a new region.

3. Journey to the Fire Crystal

Karnak Region

  • You are now in the Karnak Region, home to new monster types:
    • Aegir
    • Zu
    • Wild Nakk (forests)
    • Grass Tortoise
  • Proceed west through the forests and south to reach the town of Karnak.

Karnak

  • Play the Piano (3/8) in the Karnak pub.
  • Karnak contains one hidden item to collect, but you will not be able to access it until later.
  • Visit the weapon shop. You’ll notice prices are significantly discounted. It’s advisable to purchase a Mythril Hammer at this unusually low price. Immediately upon purchasing it, you will be imprisoned. Nice.
  • Once in jail, wait for a short period, move around a bit, and eventually, you will speak to Cid. After some scenes, you will regain control. Exit Karnak Castle and return to the town itself. Your in-game map will indicate several items within the castle. You will collect these later.
  • Karnak town offers a variety of items and magic for purchase. Now is an opportune time to earn some Gil, train your Jobs (both old and newly acquired), and upgrade your equipment.

Blue Magic Note:
??? – Can be learned from Wild Nakks in the forests surrounding Karnak.

A Detour Back to Walse Castle for Shiva

  • After some training and gear upgrades in Karnak, it’s a good time to return to Walse Castle to acquire the Shiva summon.
  • Note that there are still items and bestiary entries within Walse Castle that we will postpone collecting until later. For now, our sole objective is to obtain Shiva.

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

Missable Summon Note: Shiva is technically a missable Bestiary Entry and Summon if you fail to obtain her before leaving the first world.

  • Descend the stairs in the entrance room of Walse Castle that you avoided previously. You can proceed further down to the dungeon area, but DO NOT release the wolf prisoner.
    • This is Lone Wolf the Pickpocket. Releasing him will cause you to miss out on certain treasures later in the game. Simply leave him imprisoned. Note that the treasures he steals do not appear to count towards the in-game item collection total, but there is no reason to release him.
  • Instead, in the first basement level, proceed through the door to the south (NOT the upper right door; we will explore that area later). Follow the path to the waterfall area, where you will fight Shiva and Ice Commanders. Defeat Shiva to obtain her as a summon.

Fire-Powered Ship

Now, return to Karnak and enter the Fire Ship located south of the town. Despite its name, this is not a one-time-only dungeon, although it may initially seem so.

Back-to-Back Dungeons + Time Limit Note: While the Fire-Powered Ship is not a one-time-only dungeon, it leads directly into Karnak Castle immediately afterward. Karnak Castle is a one-time-only dungeon and also features a time limit.

Therefore, before entering the Fire-Powered Ship (or at least before defeating its boss), ensure you have a solid save point and are satisfied with your current party setup.

  • Fire-Powered Ship Enemies:
    • Crew Dust
    • Poltergeist
    • Defeater
    • Motor Trap

Blue Magic Note:
Self-Destruct – Learned from Motor Traps in the Fire-Powered Ship. Use a thunder-based ability on them to prompt them to use Self-Destruct. If you missed Flash earlier, you can also learn it from Crew Dust enemies here.

  • Quick navigation guide for the Fire-Powered Ship:
    • In the first room, collect 4 chests by entering every room except the northeast one. Leave the northeast room for last, then enter it and activate the elevator.
    • Collect another chest, then proceed to the next elevator. A World Map item can be found along the way if you did not obtain it in the Ship Graveyard.
    • Go through the nearby air vent and follow the path. You will soon reach a room with 4 vents on the south wall. Enter the easternmost vent to obtain an item after a short walk. You will then return to the vent room. Next, enter the second-easternmost vent for another item. Finally, enter the vent second from the left.
    • Ascend the nearby stairs, flip the switch, and enter the door to obtain another item.
    • Return and proceed through the door. Do not step onto the conveyor belt, as it leads back to the 4 air ducts. Instead, go through the door on the left to reach a save point.
    • In the switch/platform room, activate every switch you encounter except the bottom-center one. This will allow you to collect the last chest in this area. Then, proceed through the door.
    • The boss (Liquid Flame) is weak to Blizzard (ice-based) attacks.
    • After defeating Liquid Flame and subsequent scenes, you will find yourself in the Karnak Castle basement.

Karnak Castle Dungeon

One-Time-Only Dungeon Warning – Karnak Castle: As previously warned, Karnak Castle is a one-time-only dungeon, and a challenging one at that. It also features a time limit, and contains missable enemies and chests. Failing to complete the dungeon before the time limit results in a game over.

There are also Blue Magic spells that can be learned here (though they are also obtainable later). For completionists, this section can be quite stressful.

This guide will provide thorough directions to help you acquire all enemies, items, and Blue Magic within Karnak Castle.

It is worth noting that “monster-in-a-box” encounters are often semi-random (the boxes themselves are fixed, but the specific monster encounter within is not always scripted).

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

  • Karnak Castle Enemies:
    • Sergeant (missable! Kill one in a random battle within the castle. They will flee if left alive too long in battle.)
    • Sorcerer (missable, found in monster-in-a-box chests)
    • Cur Nakk (missable, found in monster-in-a-box chests)
    • Gigas (missable, found in monster-in-a-box chests)

Blue Magic Note:
Aera – From Gigas enemies in monster-in-a-box chests.Death Claw – From the Iron Claw boss at the end of Karnak Castle.

Both of these Blue Magic spells can be obtained later, relatively easily, so do not worry excessively if you miss them here.

  • Karnak Castle Walkthrough:
    • Return to the previous room and use the healing pot to restore your party. Then return to the save point and SAVE YOUR GAME.
    • Head directly north and collect the chest within the jail cell.
    • Proceed around to the northeast side of the room to find a chest containing monsters and an Elixir. Then exit to the northeast.
    • In the library-like room, head east and open the chest for a monster encounter. Repeat this on the left side of the room.
    • Continue following the path until you reach the main hallway with the ornate carpet. Head to the northwest room. Collect the chest containing Gil, then use the nearby stairs.
    • Follow the path to another monster-in-a-box chest. Then return to the previous chest location.
    • In this room, there are two more chests containing monsters and Elixirs. Head south through the door, then make a U-turn upwards to the next room.
    • Collect all chests in this room. You should have 12 out of 15 chests collected before leaving this room. Proceed through the stairs to the northeast.
    • Follow the path to another monster-in-a-box chest containing a Main Gauche. Then return to the room with numerous open chests and head south.
    • Proceed along the east and west paths to collect the last two chests. Ensure you have 15/15 chests collected. Verify this on your in-game map now, as you will not be able to check it later. Hopefully, you have some time remaining on the time limit.
  • When you exit the castle’s main gates, you will encounter a final scripted battle against a Sergeant and Cur Nakks.

Missable Bestiary Entry Note: For the boss fight at the end of Karnak Castle, it is important to kill the Cur Nakks first and leave the Sergeant alive. After the Cur Nakks are defeated, the boss will transform into Iron Claw. This is crucial not only for adding Iron Claw to your bestiary but also to learn the Death Claw Blue Magic from him. Death Claw can be learned elsewhere later, however, if you miss it here.

  • After the scene where you collect the fire crystal shards, return to Karnak town.

Karnak Revisited

  • Take a moment to relax after the tense dungeon section.
  • Speak to Cid on the top floor of the Karnak pub.
  • You can now collect the one hidden item located on top of the wall surrounding Karnak town, completing the Item Collection for Karnak.
  • Your next objective is to head west of Karnak to the Library of Ancients.

Blue Magic Note: With the newly acquired Beastmaster Job, you should have someone learn the “Control” ability. Control is essential for acquiring several Blue Magic abilities by controlling enemies and making them use specific spells directly.

Several new Blue Magic spells become available now:

Aqua Breath – From Dhorme Chimeras in the desert near the Library of Ancients.Transfusion – From Mythril Dragons near the Library of the Ancients. Requires controlling the Mythril Dragon with a Beastmaster.Missile – From Motor Traps, accessible again in the Fire-Powered Ship. Requires controlling the Motor Trap with a Beastmaster.

  • Enemies near the Library of Ancients:
    • Silent Bee
    • Mythril Dragon
    • Dhorme Chimera (desert area, somewhat challenging)

4. Journey to the Earth Crystal

Library of Ancients

  • The Library of Ancients is a dungeon area. The library will eventually disappear, but not for a considerable time yet. Still, it’s best to collect the chests and bestiary entries while you are here.
    • Page 32
    • Page 64
    • Page 128
    • Page 256

Blue Magic Note:
Level 5 Death – From Page 64 enemies. Hopefully, at least one but not all of your characters are currently at level 20. You don’t want everyone to be instantly killed, right?Off-Guard – From Page 256 enemies. Requires controlling a Page 256 with a Beastmaster.Moon Flute – From Page 256 enemies.Aera – In case you missed it from a Gigas in Karnak Castle, you can learn Aera from Page 32 enemies here.Magic Hammer – From the Byblos boss inside the Library.

  • The second room of the library contains a healing pot to restore your party.
  • You can ascend to another floor and battle the easternmost book enemy. All book enemies can also be encountered randomly throughout the library.
  • The dungeon layout is somewhat unusual; certain pathways shift other sections of the library. In the first room, navigate to a bookshelf in the northeast and examine it to fall into a hidden hole.
    • Head south and collect a chest.
    • In the next room, ascend a ladder, examine the wall, and proceed through the hidden passage. Follow the path, and you will eventually fight Ifrit within a book enemy.
    • Return to the fork in the path and proceed through the door you haven’t yet explored.
    • You can pass through a gap in a bookshelf here to obtain a Ninja Suit.
    • As you continue along the path, you will find a Phoenix Down, the last item in the dungeon.
    • Eventually, you will reach a save point, followed by a battle against Byblos. Byblos is weak to Fire-based attacks and can teach the Blue Magic spell Magic Hammer.
    • Speak to Mid after defeating Byblos, then exit the dungeon.

Another Quick Detour To Walse Castle

We waited until acquiring Level 5 Death Blue Magic to undertake this. You can now return to Walse Castle to complete the Item Collection there. Descend the stairs in the entrance room and proceed through the northeast door. Use Level 5 Death on the Jackanapes enemies. They are likely still too challenging to defeat conventionally at this point. This allows you to finally complete the Item Collection in Walse Castle.

Getting Another Ship

  • Return to Cid in the Karnak pub.
  • Go back to the Fire-Powered Ship. After a scene, speak to Cid again for another scene. You will now have a new ship.
    • You can still battle enemies in the Fire-Powered Ship if you need to for bestiary or Blue Magic purposes.
    • Important note: As you sail on the open ocean, do not enter the town of Crescent on the crescent moon-shaped island just yet.
  • With your new ship, several new locations become accessible. Here are some of the new monsters you can encounter: (Use the World Map item from your inventory to see map markers for new ship-accessible locations).
  • Sea Monsters:
    • Sahagin
    • Thunder Anemone
    • Sea Ibis (around Crescent Isle)
    • Corbett (in the outer sea beyond the inner sea; somewhat challenging at this point)
  • Jachol Area (to the southwest):
    • Bomb
    • Doublizard
    • Bio Soldier
  • Istory Area (to the northwest):
    • Mythril Dragon
    • Black Flame
    • Stone Golem
    • Mini Dragon (forests)
  • Crescent Area (the crescent-shaped landmass. Again, do not enter Crescent town yet):
    • Doublizard
    • Bio Soldier
    • Harvester
    • Black Flame
    • Prototype – Second island south of Crescent. Very tough enemy. Use Control (Beastmaster ability) and have it use Self-Destruct on itself to defeat it easily.

Jachol and Jachol Cave (Southwest Part of the Map)

  • Jachol town has no hidden items, but offers new equipment in its shops, such as the useful Sage’s Surplice. There is also a piano in the pub (4/8).
  • In Jachol Cave, you can encounter Nutkins (less significant enemies) and Skull Eaters. Skull Eaters have only 1 HP but very high stats otherwise. Use a Geomancer’s “Gaia” ability, scroll items (Thunder Scrolls can be obtained from Thunder Anemones), or simply flee battles (consider the Brave Blade penalty if you are pursuing that weapon).
  • The Jachol Cave dungeon is otherwise straightforward. Examine skulls and empty chests to locate switches. For the wall of skulls puzzle, stand in front of the wall and wait to see which skull to press.
  • Note: There are three chests to collect in the cave’s second room, but it appears only two of them count towards the in-game item collection total, according to the map. The chest containing the Blitz Whip can be stolen by Lone Wolf if you released him from the Walse jail earlier. These “stolen” chests may not count toward the collection.

Istory (Far Northwest of the World Map)

Blue Magic Note:
Dark Spark – From Black Flames encountered near Istory.

Missables Note:
Romeo’s Ballad – Learned in Istory by speaking to the Bard near the sheep pen. This must be obtained before leaving for the second world later in the game.Ramuh Summon – Technically missable if you discard the Ramuh item after defeating him. Avoid doing this.

  • Ramuh can be found in random battles within the forests near Istory. Defeat him. Use the item he drops to learn the Ramuh summon. This summon is technically missable if you discard the item for some reason.
  • Istory town offers very expensive accessories, which you likely do not need to purchase at this time.
    • Run around the flower circle in town to obtain the Toad spell.
    • Speak to the northwesternmost sheep from behind it, then talk to the Bard to learn Romeo’s Ballad. This song is missable if you do not acquire it before leaving the first world.

Crescent

Blue Magic Note:
Flame Thrower – From Prototypes on the second island southwest of Crescent Isle. Prototypes possess very high stats, but a Beastmaster can easily control them and use Self-Destruct to defeat them.

  • Speak to the Minstrel in the southeast part of Crescent town to learn Mighty March.
  • Play the Piano here as well (5/8).
  • Crescent offers some new weapons for purchase.
  • There are no hidden items in Crescent town.
  • Proceed to the forest south of Crescent to find a Black Chocobo. After a scene, you will unlock the Ranger and Bard Jobs, and gain the ability to fly using the Black Chocobo. Black Chocobos can only land in forests.

Lix

  • Using the Black Chocobo, fly to Lix, an isolated town located far north of the map, surrounded by mountains, near the Wind Shrine.

Missables Note:
Alluring Air – Speak to the bard in Bartz’s house in Lix after examining the music box. This song must be obtained before leaving for the second world later in the game.

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

  • Lix has no hidden items.
  • Purchase scrolls (water-based scrolls are useful for the upcoming boss battle).
  • Ethers can also be purchased here.
  • Go to Bartz’s old house in the northwest of town and examine the pink music box for a scene. Then speak to the bard residing in the house to learn Alluring Air (Missable!).
  • Rest at the Inn for a second scene.
  • Speak to the scholar-like NPC in the north-center of town for a third scene.

Desert of Shifting Sands & Gohn

  • Now, fly to the Library of Ancients (center of the western continent) to speak with Cid & Mid. Then head west to the Desert of Shifting Sands.
  • In some versions of Final Fantasy V, enemies in this desert are missable, though later versions allow these enemies to be encountered in the third world. To be safe, encounter them now:
    • Sandboil
    • Desert Killer
    • Sand Bear

Missable Item Note:
Javelin – This spear can only be obtained by stealing from Sand Bears, for unknown reasons. It is not a particularly powerful weapon, but this is the only place to acquire them if you desire a complete item collection.

A Note on Stealing: Valuable items can often be obtained by stealing from enemies and bosses. None of the enemies encountered before this point had particularly significant steals, so stealing has not been emphasized until now.

There are two types of stealable items that any enemy can possess: common steals and rare steals. When a character uses the Steal command, they have a 40% chance of successfully stealing an item. Equipping Thief’s Gloves (obtained from the Fire-Powered Ship) increases this success rate to 80%.

If a steal attempt is successful, there is a 123/128 chance of stealing the normal, common steal item. Rare steal items have only a 5/128 chance of being stolen on a successful steal attempt, or roughly 4%. Not all enemies have both common and rare steals; some have only one or the other.

In the case of Sand Bears, they only carry a Javelin in their Rare Steal slot and have no common steal item. This means you will likely fail numerous steal attempts before you succeed in the lower percentage chance of obtaining the rare steal – the Javelin.

This is not the case with Sand Bears, but be aware for the future that enemies possessing both a common and a rare steal item can be more challenging to steal from for this reason. You have a 123/128 chance of obtaining the common steal, and if you do, you can no longer attempt to steal the rare item. Unlike enemies lacking a common steal, you cannot simply keep trying until you get lucky. The most efficient method for stealing rare items from enemies with both common and rare steals is to attempt a steal, and if you get the common item, repeatedly use a Time Mage’s “Return” ability to reset the battle until you successfully steal the rare item.

Hopefully, this explanation is clear. Worthwhile steals will be mentioned from this point forward in the guide.

  • Navigating through the Desert of Shifting Sands is relatively easy; there are no chests to collect here.

Gohn

  • Gohn town has no hidden items.
  • Approach the middle staircase to see King Tycoon.
  • Then ascend the western staircase, where you will see him a second time.
  • Then proceed around and descend the central staircase, where you will encounter him a third time. Follow him. After a scene, you will find yourself in a hollow underground area. There are no enemies or items here, so continue onward.
  • You will then arrive at the Catapult.

Catapult and Airship Events

  • After ascending a staircase in the Catapult, proceed south to find a rest area to heal your party. Then, press the button in the room to the left of the rest area. It will not function initially. You will then be tasked with a mini-scavenger hunt until you realize you need to pull the button instead of pushing it to activate it and reveal this area’s three chests for Item Collection.
  • Continue along the linear path, and after some scenes, you will acquire the airship, followed by a boss battle against Cray Claw. Use thunder-based attacks against Cray Claw.
  • Once you have the airship, feel free to explore the world map, but to continue the main story, fly over the city of Gohn (southern side of the western continent) for a scene. Then return to Cid and Mid in the area beneath Crescent Island.
  • Then head to Tycoon Meteorite (northwest of Crescent) to obtain Adamantite. Fight Adamantoise (use Blizzard-based attacks). Return to Cid/Mid.
  • Next, board your airship. You can now press a button to ascend higher into the atmosphere to reach the Flying Ruins. You must fight the various gun turrets on the ruins. You can obtain the Blue Magic spells Missile and Flame Thrower here if you haven’t acquired them already.
  • Once all the gun turrets are destroyed, the large main gun will appear. You can save and heal your party before engaging it. Use thunder-based attacks on the main gun. Casting Slow magic on the main gun is also helpful.
  • You can now enter the Ronka Ruins. Stock up on Phoenix Downs beforehand. They will be very useful against the Ghidra enemies within.

Ronka Ruins

One-Time-Only Area Warning – Ronka Ruins: Ronka Ruins are a one-time-only area. Ensure you collect all 12 chests and bestiary entries here before you finish the dungeon.

Enemies found in Ronka Ruins:

Ra Mage Ronkan Knight Stone Mask Enchanted Fan Lamia Archaotoad Hydra Ghidra (found in the final room; quite tough; use Phoenix Downs to instantly kill them).

Blue Magic Note:
White Wind – From Enchanted Fans. Requires controlling an Enchanted Fan with a Beastmaster.1000 Needles – From Lamias. Requires controlling a Lamia with a Beastmaster.Level 4 Graviga – From Ghidras in the final area of the ruins. Your character’s level must be divisible by 4 to learn this spell. Use Phoenix Downs to kill Ghidras quickly if you need EXP (Phoenix Downs might miss initially, but they are undead, so it will eventually work). Alternatively, use Missile Blue Magic to weaken them to force them to use Level 4 Graviga. Ghidras have Reflect status.

  • Ronka Ruins Walkthrough:
    • It is recommended to have a character equipped with the Thief skill “Find Passages” for this dungeon.
    • Proceed along the initial path, collecting the chest containing Golden Armor along the way.
    • In the next area, you will find a chest with an Elixir. Checking your in-game map will reveal three paths you can take. The center path simply leads to a save point to Save/Heal your party.
    • Take the rightmost path to find a Phoenix Down and ultimately a Golden Shield. Return to the three-path fork and take the leftmost path to continue.
    • Along the leftmost path, you will eventually find a Hi-Potion. After this, you will encounter a fork where you must choose between a door to the south or a staircase to the north. Take the staircase to reach a treasure room.
    • The Treasure Room contains five chests, but there are floor traps that teleport you back a few rooms. A Geomancer’s “Find Pits” ability can help you avoid these traps. Hug the left and then north walls to obtain all chests safely.
    • Now proceed through the door south of the staircase. You will eventually encounter another door/staircase fork. The staircase leads to another save point. The door continues the main path.
    • You will eventually encounter one last door/staircase fork. Take the staircase to reach the final two chests, which should complete the Item Collection for this area.
    • Ghidras are tough random encounters in the room leading to the boss.
    • Double-check your item collection on the in-game map to ensure you have all 12 chests and have defeated all the enemy types listed above before facing the boss.
  • After a series of scenes, you will be left with only three party members. Go to the area beneath Crescent and return to the rest room in the Catapult to find a note from Cid/Mid. Then proceed to Tycoon Meteorite.

Meteorite World Tour, and Final Check Before World 2

  • You will need to visit the other meteorites:
    • Walse Meteorite – Fight six Purobolos enemies. They will revive themselves when defeated individually, so it is best to defeat them all simultaneously. Having multiple Ninjas and using scrolls rapidly is highly recommended.
    • Karnak Meteorite – Fight Titan.
    • Gohn Meteorite – Fight Chimera Brain (absorbs blizzard-based attacks).
  • At this point, you will be able to travel to World 2, Galuf’s World, by entering the portal at the center of the world map. This is an excellent point to double-check your bestiary, Blue Magic collection, and other completionist aspects before moving on.

World 1 Final Collection Check: Before traveling to Galuf’s World, you should have Bestiary entries 1-69, 191-196, 229-253. You should also have played 5 pianos, learned 21 Blue Magic spells, acquired the Shiva Summon, Romeo’s Ballad, Alluring Air, Javelin weapon, Iron Shield, and Kenpo Gi armor.

5. A Whole New World

  • You will fight a Pao enemy immediately upon entering World 2. The game will then prompt you to use a tent when you enter the forest. Use a tent, then you will fight a solo boss, Abductor. In some versions of Final Fantasy V, this bestiary entry is missable if you lose the battle. Ensure you win.

Missable Bestiary Note: In certain versions of Final Fantasy V, the Abductor boss you fight solo as Bartz is missable if you are defeated. Make sure you win this battle.

Castle Exdeath

  • You begin in Castle Exdeath. After a series of scenes, once you regain control of Galuf alone, proceed north through the door and save your game. The next north door leads to a healing point.

Continue along the single path. You will fight Gilgamesh in a solo battle with Galuf. Blue Magic spells like Missile or Death Claw are very effective in this fight. After defeating Gilgamesh, you will free Bartz, Lenna, and Faris. Then exit Castle Exdeath.

  • Enemies in Castle Exdeath’s basement. These enemies are eventually missable but will remain accessible for a while. It is best to obtain them now:
    • Tarantula
    • Shell Bear (the only location to steal Spears)

Missable Enemy and Item Note: Tarantula and Shell Bear enemies in Castle Exdeath’s basement are missable. Shell Bears are also the only source for stealing Spears, so obtain one if you desire a complete item collection.

  • Your in-game map will indicate 15 items within Exdeath’s Castle. You will collect these much later in the game.

Castle Exdeath Area

  • You will need to escape over the Big Bridge to the west, but first, add the nearby enemies to your bestiary:
    • Devilfish
    • Treant (forest areas)
    • Strapparer (somewhat rare; possesses Dark Spark and Death Claw Blue Magic if you still need these spells).

Big Bridge

  • Proceed along the Big Bridge. Enemy encounters here are not truly random but are triggered on specific tiles. However, the specific enemy types encountered are somewhat random. These four enemy types are also missable, so ensure you encounter them all:
    • Merrow
    • Flying Killer
    • Little Chariot
    • Neo Garula

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

Missable Enemies Note: Merrow, Flying Killer, Little Chariot, and Neo Garula are missable enemies found on the Big Bridge.

  • You will fight Gilgamesh again halfway across the bridge. He does not possess any particularly valuable steals at this point (Genji equipment becomes available later).
  • After crossing the bridge, you will be blown away to a different region near Regole.

Regole (and Surrounding Area)

  • First, several new enemy types can be found in the area surrounding Regole:
    • Tunneler (forests)
    • Birostris (forests)
    • Fairy Orc
    • Devourer (swamps)
    • Mandrake (swamps)
  • In Regole town itself, use the Inn (free of charge) for a scene.
  • Go to the pub and locate a secret passage on the west wall. This leads to a piano (6/8).
  • Regole offers a variety of new equipment and magic for purchase.

Kuza, The Sealed Castle

  • Your next destination is to the south on the world map. You will pass a castle area. This is Kuza, the Sealed Castle, a location that will become more important later in the game. A couple of notable and powerful enemies are found here:
    • Kuza Beast
    • Shield Dragon

Missable Enemy Note: Make sure to encounter Kuza Beast before you proceed to World 3.

  • You can encounter a random, but somewhat rare enemy called Kuza Beast near the castle (for example, on the bridge leading to the castle). It has 5000 HP and is quite challenging at this point, but ensure you encounter it for your bestiary.
  • Inside Kuza Castle, you can fight Shield Dragon. It is very tough at this stage of the game. The most effective way to defeat it is to use Control (Beastmaster ability) and repeatedly use the Blaze spell on itself.
  • Continue along the world map, and you will encounter the Moogle Forest. Follow the path to the Underground Waterway.

Underground Waterway

One-Time-Only Area Warning – Underground Waterway: This dungeon contains missable chests and enemies. Two chests are easily located using your in-game map. The four missable enemy types here are: Blood Slime Acrophies Moogle Eater Lesser Lopros (somewhat rare)

Note: Some sources indicate this area is not actually missable, but it is prudent to collect everything here now as a precaution.

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

  • The Underground Waterway dungeon is otherwise straightforward. Two chests can be found along the path. The boss, Tyrannosaur, is undead and weak to fire-based attacks (Phoenix Downs are effective). Follow the Moogle out the other side of the waterway.

Moogle Village Area

  • This area of the world map shares most of the same enemies as the Regole area, but two new enemy types appear in the desert region:
    • Cactus
    • Sandcrawler (somewhat challenging with 15,000 HP. Use Spellblade + Level 5 Break to defeat it instantly).
  • Head north to a large forest surrounded by mountains. The Moogle Village is hidden in the center of this forest.
  • In Moogle Village, speak to the moogle on the east side of the village and collect the six chests located here.
  • Then go to the central house to obtain a Moogle Suit. Then go to the building to the left and speak to the moogle inside to get the last item in the village. Finally, speak to the moogle on the far right side of the village again.
  • After some scenes, you will arrive at the Castle of Bal.

Castle of Bal

  • After the initial scenes, you can collect two chests located southwest of the throne, one of which is hidden in a small passage. Then, exit the throne room and proceed to the courtyard.
  • There are two doors in the courtyard, both leading to shops. The only new item available is a Gauntlet in the armor shop.
  • Ascend the stairs in the weapon/armor shop building. You can then proceed downstairs, obscured by the tower structure. Here, collect the last chest, then press the button on the south wall and stand between the shopkeepers. You will receive a Lamia Harp.
  • For the last item in Castle Bal, go to the southwest of the courtyard, which will lead you to the surrounding moat. Proceed all the way around the moat to obtain a Great Sword, completing the Item Collection for Castle Bal.

AP Grinding Spot Note: If you return to the main building and descend the stairs, you can battle Objet d’Arts enemies. These enemies are weak to Level 5 Death Blue Magic, making them easy to defeat and providing excellent AP (Ability Points). Grind here if you wish to master Jobs quickly.

  • To continue the story, return to the main building and ascend the stairs to speak with Krile and the Wind Drake for a scene.
  • Leave Bal town to fight an Abductor boss. You will not be able to return to Bal for a while after this battle.

6. Drakes and Moore

Bal Region

  • As usual, let’s first examine the new enemies in the region surrounding Bal:
    • Aquathorn
    • Weresnake
    • Kornago
    • Cursed Being
  • If you want a useful Beastmaster item later, catch a Kornago enemy now. The easiest way to capture one is to use the Blue Magic Death Claw.
  • Proceed north to the village of Quelb.

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

Quelb

  • Examine the north gate of Quelb, which is locked.
  • Enter the topmost house for a series of scenes.
  • Check out the shops for new equipment and items.
  • Examine the well in the southwest part of town. Give the old man in the well the Kornago you caught earlier and 10,000 Gil to receive a Kornago Gourd, which increases your catch rate when using the Beastmaster “Catch” ability.
  • Speak to a werewolf in the northeast part of town to learn the Requiem Bard song.
  • Leave Quelb and head north to Drakenvale.

Drakenvale

  • Drakenvale is a very linear dungeon. You should easily be able to find the chests along the main path.
    • Drippy
    • Lycaon
    • Bone Dragon
    • Poison Eagle
    • Zombie Dragon
  • On the screen with scattered bones, check under one of the skulls to find a Bone Mail armor.
  • On the same screen, you will encounter Golem. The first time, he will be labeled as “???” and will run away. The second time you encounter him, he will be attacked by a Bone Dragon and Zombie Dragon. Defeat these enemies, and you will receive the Golem summon item (do not discard it). You will also add Golem to your bestiary.
  • The Dragon Pod boss battle – the Monk’s “Kick” skill is effective in this fight.

Return to Bal Castle, Castle Surgate

  • Return to Bal Castle and speak to Krile in her bedroom. Then speak to the Wind Drake. Then fly north of the opening near Drakenvale to reach an island cave. It will sink into the ocean. Then fly west to Castle Surgate.
  • After some scenes in Castle Surgate, ascend the northwest stairs and follow the path to a library. Proceed to the next floor of the library and place the three books back on the shelves in the correct order (alphabetical). Then speak to the NPC librarian, who will open a new path.
  • Enter the newly opened room and open a chest, then go outside to the courtyard.
  • Proceed west across the courtyard to another room containing another chest. Return to the throne room within the castle.
  • Head to the southwest staircase in the throne room to enter Xezat’s room. Read the book in his room to learn the Swift Song Bard song.
  • Use the last staircase in the throne room to access the castle shops. The weapon shop offers new equipment.
  • When ready, fly east of Exdeath’s castle to find Xezat’s fleet. Ensure you have a Thief character equipped with Thief’s Gloves in your party.

Attack on Barrier Tower

  • Here, you will fight some Gobbledygook enemies.
  • You will then fight Gilgamesh for the third time. STEAL HIS GENJI GLOVES. Enkidu will also appear in this battle.

Missable Item Note: Steal Gilgamesh’s Genji Gloves when you fight him on the Surgate ship. It is his common steal, so it should be relatively easy to obtain.

  • Then proceed below deck and speak to Xezat. After some scenes, you will find yourself in Barrier Tower.

Advertisement. Keep scrolling for more

One-Time-Only Dungeon Warning – Barrier Tower: Barrier Tower is a one-time-only dungeon. All 4 chests and many enemy types here must be obtained before you complete the tower, or they will be permanently missed.

The enemies you need to encounter in Barrier Tower are:

Neon Magnetite Reflect Knight Traveler Level Tricker Gravitator Ziggurat Gigas (found on the last floor near the second save point)

Blue Magic Note:
Time Slip – From Traveler enemies.Level 2 Old – From Level Tricker enemies. Use the Chemist’s “Mix” ability with Dragon Defense (Phoenix Down + Dragon Fang) to cast Reflect status on the Level Tricker. Then, use Control (Beastmaster ability) on the Level Tricker. Have the controlled Level Tricker use Level 2 Old on itself. The spell will bounce off Reflect and target a random party member. The learning character must be at a level divisible by 2.Level 3 Flare – From Red Dragons found in monster-in-a-box chests. Use the Chemist’s “Mix” ability with Dragon Defense (Phoenix Down + Dragon Fang) to cast Reflect status on the Red Dragon. Then, use Control (Beastmaster ability) on the Red Dragon. Have the controlled Red Dragon use Level 3 Flare on itself. The spell will bounce off Reflect and target a random party member. The learning character must be at a level divisible by 3.

Note: Of the four chests in Barrier Tower, two are monster-in-a-box encounters. These chests can contain either Red Dragon or Yellow Dragon enemies (random). Both enemy types can be encountered later in the game, so don’t be overly concerned if you don’t encounter them now or learn Level 3 Flare here.

  • The dungeon layout is very linear, but encountering all enemies and learning the Blue Magic spells may take some time.
  • The boss, Atomos, can be put to Sleep using Sleep magic or a Sleep Spellblade.
  • After defeating Atomos, scenes will play. Take the submarine to a narrow crevasse in the southwest part of the western continent, then surface. You will be near the town of Moore.

Moore Area

  • Before entering Moore town, find these enemies in the surrounding area:
    • Cure Beast
    • Land Turtle
    • Dechirer
  • In Moore town, find a piano in the pub (7/8).
  • A Main Gauche weapon is located in a barrel outside the Moore pub as the lone hidden item in town.
  • Moore shops offer a lot of excellent equipment and magic for purchase.

Sea Floor Exploration

  • When prepared, use the submarine to travel to a cave in the underwater northwest area. This cave contains two enemy types:
    • Ironback
    • Druid
  • On the overworld on the other side of the underwater cave, find Catoblepas in the forest. Defeat Catoblepas to obtain his summon. Do not discard the Catoblepas item. This summon is missable!.
  • Make sure you enter the Chocobo Forest located near Catoblepas. This is one of the few optional locations in the game required for achievement completion and is missable.

Missables Note: Fight Catoblepas after exiting the Sea Floor Cave and before heading to the 3rd world. Enter the Chocobo Forest near Catoblepas before heading to the 3rd world.

  • Then proceed to Ghido’s cave, located at the center of the map, where Ghido’s island was located before it sank. This cave contains two enemy types:
    • Dark Aspic
    • Metamorph

Blue Magic Note:
Aeroga – From Metamorph’s Enchanted Fan form in Ghido’s Cave.

Metamorph enemies transform into other enemies. There are four possible Metamorph encounters, each with three different monsters it can randomly transform into. The four encounter variations are:

-Shiva, Gaelicat, Elf Toad -Ifrit, Wyvern, Enchanted Fan -Ramuh, Crew Dust, Zombie Dragon -Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh

  • Ghido’s Cave itself is quite simple. Continue through the cave until you obtain a stone from a chest.
  • Place the stone in the northwest chest to activate a switch.
  • Then place the stone in the southwest chest to continue.
  • Use Find Passages (Thief ability) to navigate through hidden passages.
  • Speak to Ghido. You will receive a key item. Teleport out of Ghido’s Cave.
  • Now proceed to the Great Forest of Moore.

The Great Forest of Moore

  • Navigating this dungeon is significantly simplified by using your in-game map. It is very easy to collect all chests this way. Proceed through the holes in trees to continue deeper into the forest.
  • Enemies found in the Great Forest of Moore:
    • Mini Magician
    • Galajelly
    • Mammon
    • Imp
    • Wyrm (this enemy is reportedly missable and will no longer appear after the forest fire event).

Blue Magic Note:
Lilliputian Lyric – From Mini Magician enemies in the Forest of Moore.

  • A quick note about one of the chests: The chest near the Moogle that appears can change its contents depending on whether you pick it up before or after the forest fire event. Before the fire, it contains an Aegis Shield. After the fire, it contains a Flame Shield. The Flame Shield is generally more useful at this point, and you will obtain at least one of each of these shield types later anyway.
  • The boss of the Great Forest of Moore is comprised of 4 crystals, each with a different elemental absorption. Graviga and Missile Blue Magic spells are very effective in this battle.
  • A series of scenes will occur here.

7. Wrapping Up Galuf’s World

Gil Cave

  • Restock your supplies and when ready, head to a cave near Bal. This is Gil Cave.
  • Gil Cave is an optional location, but you can encounter two enemy types here:
    • Undergrounder
    • Gil Turtle
  • The Gil Turtle is a boss-like enemy that you can encounter multiple times within Gil Cave. It is weak to Blizzard (ice-based) attacks. It is recommended to attack Gil Turtle with only one party member at a time, as it will counter-attack. Use Blizzaga/Spellblade/Shiva and heal/revive as needed. Using Float status on your party is also helpful.
  • Gil Cave features a section behind a door where Bartz will automatically pick up Gil on each tile he steps on, with the amount increasing exponentially as he progresses along the path. You may encounter the Gil Turtle on any of these Gil-collecting tiles. Consider using quicksaves strategically if you want to collect a significant amount of Gil but avoid fighting the Gil Turtle too many times.

Some Random World Map Enemies

  • Several random enemies can be found on the world map for bestiary completion. Proceed to the forest on the southeastern islands. You can obtain these enemies later, but it is efficient to get them now:
    • Sleepy
    • Triffid
    • Hedgehog (A commenter notes that this monster can be rare at this point and is more easily obtained in the Merged World).
    • Shadow
  • Now is a good time to fight Kuza Beast if you haven’t already. Kuza Beast is missable and is found outside the Sealed Castle. You can also fight Shield Dragon inside Kuza Castle, although Shield Dragon is not missable.
  • Now, proceed to Exdeath’s Castle for the final time in World 2.

Castle Exdeath

One-Time-Only Dungeon Warning – Castle Exdeath: Castle Exdeath will disappear permanently once you defeat the boss here. Therefore, you must fight all enemy types found here and collect all 15 chests before defeating Exdeath. As always, remember that you will no longer be able to check your item collection status on the in-game map after you complete the dungeon.

There are a large number of enemies to encounter in Castle Exdeath:

Twin Lizard Blind Wolf Hellraiser Reflect Mage Magic Dragon (possesses the Blue Magic Aeroga if you did not obtain it from Metamorph earlier) Black Warlock (the only enemy in the game that drops the Power Staff weapon. Can also rarely steal the Judgment Staff, though this is also available later) Adamantite Golem Bandercoeurl Iron Fist Blue Dragon Red Dragon (you can obtain Level 3 Flare Blue Magic here if you did not get it from a chest battle in Barrier Tower) Yellow Dragon

You can also still access the B2 area of Castle Exdeath to fight Shell Bear (to steal a Spear if desired) and Tarantula, both missable if you haven’t encountered them already.

Important forewarning: You will fight Gilgamesh again partway through Castle Exdeath. This is the only opportunity to steal the Genji Helm from him.

One last missable element – Carbuncle can be fought and obtained as a summon within Castle Exdeath, so do not miss him.

  • Castle Exdeath Quick Walkthrough:
    • 2F – Two chests.
    • 3F – Enter the west room, then attempt to exit for a scene.
    • 4F – Flip the switch, one chest.
    • 5F – One chest.
    • 6F – Two chests, one in a hidden path within the lava area.
    • 7F – A semi-rare enemy (but not missable) can be found here – Oiseaurare. Make the bridge end on the second wall from the left to increase the chance of this monster spawning. Two chests on this floor.
    • 8F – Two chests.
    • 9F – The first time you enter this screen, it will only display a staircase. Head up to 10F.
    • 10F – Head back down to 9F.
    • 9F – Cast Float status on your party, go up the far east staircase to a chest on 10F, then return and go up the other staircase available to you on 9F.
    • 10F – In the skull diamond area, collect the chest, then proceed to the northernmost square to warp to the Carbuncle boss fight (MISSABLE summon). After defeating Carbuncle, return to this diamond area and head south.
    • 11F – Before opening the chest in the center of the room, go up the east staircase and collect two chests. Then return, open the empty chest in the center, and you will fight Gilgamesh. STEAL HIS GENJI HELM during this battle. This should be all 15 chests, completing your item collection for Castle Exdeath.

World 2 Final Collection Check: After obtaining all items and bestiary entries in Castle Exdeath, but before engaging Exdeath himself, you should have Bestiary entries 1-137, 139, 176-177, 191-196, 229-273. You should also have the Catoblepas, Carbuncle, and Golem summons. You should also have acquired the Spear and Power Staff weapons if desired. Also, ensure you entered the Chocobo Forest located on the other side of the Sea Floor Cave (where Catoblepas was found).

You should have also learned 26 Blue Magic spells at this point, not counting Doom which can be learned from Exdeath himself.

Defeating Exdeath will transition the player to World 3 – the Merged World.

Blue Magic Note: You can learn the Doom Blue Magic spell from Exdeath during the final boss battle of World 2.

  • When ready, engage Exdeath at the end of his castle. A series of scenes will follow, naturally concluding World 2.

8. A Merged World

Merged World Interlude

  • Upon entering the Merged World, head into Castle Tycoon and proceed directly north for story events.
  • Head south and west (with only Bartz and Krile in your party) to the Cave to reunite with Boko (and Koko).
  • Now controlling Boko, head north of Castle Tycoon and then west of Tule to a mountain path. You will fall into a hole and fight the Antlion boss.
  • After these events, Faris rejoins your party. Head west to Ghido’s Cave. More story events will occur.
  • Then, head south to the Library of Ancients. More events will unfold here.
  • Speak to a scholar on the roof of the Library of Ancients to learn Mana’s Paean Bard song (missable!).

Missable Item Note: Obtain Mana’s Paean Bard song from a scholar on the roof of the Library of Ancients before entering the Pyramid of Moore dungeon.

  • Lenna will be temporarily absent from your party during this section.

Overworld – Castle Surgate Area

  • Several new enemy types appear on the world map, along with some enemies you may have encountered previously at the end of World 2:
    • Sleepy
    • Triffid
    • Hedgehog
    • Python
    • Shadow
    • Elm Gigas
  • Head west to the Guardian Tree for a quick scene. Then continue west to the shifting sands area for another brief scene.
  • More new enemies can be encountered in the desert region. Ignore the pyramid structure in the center of the desert for now.
    • Desertpede
    • Bulette
  • Then, in the area west of the desert:
    • Slug
    • Gloom Widow
    • Mykale
  • Stop by Moore town to pick up either the Brave Blade or the Chicken Knife weapon, depending on your preference. Go around the Moore pub and through a secret path in the trees to the south. The left crate contains the Brave Blade, and the right crate contains the Chicken Knife.
    • These weapon choices do not appear to count towards the in-game Item Collection total.
  • When ready, proceed to the Pyramid of Moore located in the desert.

Pyramid of Moore Dungeon

  • The Pyramid of Moore is a lengthy dungeon with numerous chests to collect.
  • Ensure you have acquired Mana’s Paean Bard song before entering this dungeon.
  • Returning Enemies:
    • Objet d’Art (monster-in-a-box chest)
    • Black Warlock (chance to appear in chests)
    • Bandercoeurl
  • New Enemies:
    • Lamia Queen
    • Ushtabi
    • Archeosaur
    • Zephyrus
    • Rajiformes
    • Mummy
    • Apsis
    • Mecha Head
    • The Damned
    • Grand Mummy
    • Sekhmet (one-time-only encounter; can steal another pair of Thief’s Gloves from Sekhmet)
    • Steel Fist (monster-in-a-box chest)
    • Gargoyle (a semi-boss enemy you will fight several times throughout the Pyramid)
  • You will initially fight two Gargoyles. They revive each other repeatedly. Enter the Pyramid after defeating them.
  • Take the leftmost path upon entering. Float over the spike traps or carefully navigate by alternating left and right directional inputs. Allow yourself to be swept away by the sand river.
  • Collect the chest (monster-in-a-box), then proceed north (fight the Apsis enemy). Continue along the path. You can turn off the sand river you encountered earlier. Then proceed to floor 2.
  • Navigate through some hidden passages to reach the next set of stairs. Open the sarcophagus located here to obtain the Cursed Ring item (provides good stat boosts but inflicts auto-Doom status).
  • Return to the dungeon entrance (use the Teleport spell) and proceed through the door you skipped before in the first room. Floor 2 features a simple button puzzle and more Apsis enemies.
  • Floor 3 contains three chests, all of which are monster-in-a-box encounters.
  • Floor 4 will have Mecha Heads and Apsis enemies roaming around. Both are easily defeated at this point. Press a button to the west, and proceed past the spike traps to fight an Archeosaur and obtain the Black Robe armor. Then proceed to the northeast side of the room to open two chests and another sarcophagus. The Thornlet item obtained from the sarcophagus inflicts auto-Sap status. Then proceed to the next floor. There is a save point on this floor (save and heal your party).
  • On Floor 5, you may encounter Sekhmet, who can only be defeated once. You can steal an extra pair of Thief’s Gloves from Sekhmet if desired. Ascend the north stairs for two chests (monster-in-a-box). Then collect a chest back on Floor 5 to the east. The last chest located to the northeast cannot be accessed yet.
  • On Floor 6, do not press the button initially. Run into the sand river to reach the chest you just passed by. Then return and press the button. Continue to the room to the northeast and press the left button to access four chests. Then proceed to Floor 7.
  • On Floor 7, ignore the staircase and proceed through the western door to reach 4 chests. Then use the central staircase to proceed.
  • On Floor 8, the floor layout will change every few seconds to a different pattern. Be patient and utilize the tiles that do not change to carefully move across the changing tiles to collect the three chests. Then proceed to the northeast stairs to obtain two more chests. Then return and proceed to the northwest stairs to collect two more chests.
  • This should be all 28 chests for your item collection in the Pyramid of Moore.
  • Continue to the end of the dungeon for a series of scenes.

Getting an Airship for Some Sidequesting

After exiting the Pyramid of Moore, ensure you save your game.

  • Proceed east to the Guardian Tree for cutscenes and a boss battle against Melusine.
  • Lenna will rejoin your party after this battle.
  • Then, head to the ship located northeast of Castle Surgate for more scenes. You will now have access to an airship.
  • Avoid flying directly over the void holes on the world map, particularly the void where Castle Tycoon was previously located.
  • Fly to Regole town (use your world map to locate it). Speak to the girl standing between the counters in the Regole item shop to receive a Ribbon accessory.
  • Fly to Carwen and speak with the green-haired woman south of the pub. Respond “yes” for a short scene involving an impersonator. More on this event later.
  • Fly to Crescent town (no longer an island) and play the Piano in the pub. If you have played the 7 pianos encountered thus far, you will learn the Sinewy Etude Bard song from the bard located here.
  • Fly to the Pirate Hideout to learn the Syldra Summon.
  • Fly to Kuza, the Sealed Castle, and obtain three of the legendary sealed weapons. You will receive 3 weapons per tablet you find. You can also fight Exdeath’s Soul enemies in Kuza Castle now; they are regular enemy encounters.
  • Go back through Jachol Cave to fight Odin and obtain his summon. Odin can rarely drop a Protect Ring.

Item Note: A commenter notes an additional missable item in Carwen in the Merged World: “Cottage, on the NE dock area after the guy moves out of the way.”

Phantom Village

  • Fly to the town of Crescent, and then fly south from there. Proceed to the third forest south of Crescent town and land your airship. Walk around within this forest to enter the Phantom Village.
  • Each shop in Phantom Village has a front-facing shopkeeper and a hidden shopkeeper.
  • The Armor Shop has a crate you can click to access the hidden shop.
  • A hidden side entrance to the Magic Shop leads to new magic spells.
  • A hidden back entrance to the Pub provides clues to the area’s hidden item, which is located in a barrel (Thief’s Knife weapon).
  • The man located downstairs in a house wants you to run around the world map on Boko. This task is simple but time-consuming. Completing this task will reward you with a Mirage Vest armor.
  • You will find the last piano (8/8) in Phantom Village shortly after exploring.
  • After exploring Phantom Village, you can locate the other weapon shop, the last piano, and a black chocobo that you will need for a later sidequest.

More Airship Exploration

  • Here are some new world map-only enemies that you will not find anywhere else in dungeons.
  • West of Regole town:
    • Frost Bull
    • Istory Lythos (can rarely steal the Judgment Staff weapon, a powerful and rare staff)
    • Spizzner
  • Lake near Crescent town:
    • Rukh
    • Sea Devil
    • For item collectors, you can rarely steal a Murasame katana from Rukh enemies (otherwise, it is only obtainable as a rare boss drop later). You can rarely steal a Defender sword from Sea Devil enemies (you will also obtain one Defender sword in a chest later).
  • Southwest corner of the map’s sea area:
    • Vilia
    • Gel Fish
  • North and outer ocean areas:
    • Water Scorpion
  • Eastern inner sea:
    • Nix
    • Corbett (if you did not defeat Corbett enemies earlier)
    • Stingray (rare encounter)
  • You can fight Stingray enemies, a rare encounter in the inner sea on the east side of the map, to learn the Blue Magic spell Mighty Guard (use Control ability on a Stingray). Stingrays also rarely drop the Dragon Whisker weapon. You can technically obtain a Dragon Whisker as a rare steal from the superboss Shinryu later, but it is easier to obtain it from Stingrays here.

Blue Magic Note:
Mighty Guard – From Stingray enemies in the eastern inner sea. Use Control (Beastmaster ability) on a Stingray. Stingrays are a rare enemy encounter.

  • After obtaining Mighty Guard and exploring the world map enemies, proceed to Crescent town to play the piano in the southeast house. Speak to the bard in this house to learn the Hero’s Rime Bard song for having played all 8 pianos in the game.
  • Then, use Boko to travel to the waterfall in the river/mountain area in the northwest part of the world map. Examine the center part of the waterfall to find the Magic Lamp key item.

Island Shrine Dungeon

  • After completing the optional content, proceed to the Island Shrine located in the southern part of the central ocean area. It is helpful to have the Thief abilities “Find Passages” and “Find Pits” equipped for this dungeon.
  • The Island Shrine dungeon is not a one-time-only area. It contains 14 chests and these enemy types:
    • Prototype
    • Mecha Head
    • The Damned
    • Executor
    • Oiseaurare
    • Shadow Dancer
    • Numb Blade
    • Tot Aevis
    • Gargoyle
  • Island Shrine Quick Walkthrough:
    • Fight the initial Gargoyle enemies and enter the door.
    • Collect the chest and continue.
    • Proceed into the air vent. The room you are dropped into contains two switches AND two hidden chests, one in the southeast corner and one in the southwest corner, one tile up from the corner itself.
  • Flip both levers to the “down” position to make the air vent lead to a chest.
  • Flip the levers to the “Up | Down” position to make the air vent lead to another chest.
  • Flip the levers to the “Down | Up” position to proceed with the main path.
  • The rest of the level is relatively straightforward. Use your in-game map to locate chests and hidden passages.

Blue Magic Note:
Mind Blast – From the Wendigo boss in the Island Shrine.

  • Collect the tablet at the end of the Island Shrine, and fight the Wendigo boss (learn the Mind Blast Blue Magic spell from Wendigo). Teleport out of the Island Shrine.
  • Return to Kuza, the Sealed Castle, again to obtain three more sealed weapons.

Fork Tower

One-Time-Only Dungeon Warning – Fork Tower: Fork Tower is a one-time-only dungeon. Ensure you collect all 4 chests and encounter all enemy types before you complete it.

Fork Tower has a unique structure; you will split your party into two groups to complete it simultaneously. When you first enter Fork Tower, check your in-game map. It will indicate 4 chests in total. However, as soon as you split your party, the separate maps for each tower section will indicate 0 chests each. This is a map display anomaly.

Ensure you collect these enemies and chests (enemies in bold are new missable enemies):

Left (Magic) Side:Tiny Mage (MISSABLE)Chrono Controller (MISSABLE)Flare Mancer (MISSABLE, can steal Blitz Whip weapon) Mani Wizard (if you did not encounter them before) Ricard Mage (supposedly found here, but very rare; you should have encountered them much earlier in the game) Two chests along the path upwards (on 4F and 7F) Boss – Minotaur. You can steal a Fuma Shuriken from Minotaur, but it is not a particularly special item.

Right (Physical) Side:Dueling Knight (MISSABLE)Iron Muscles (MISSABLE)Berserker (MISSABLE, can drop the Death Sickle weapon) Bandersnatch (supposedly found here, but very rare; you should have encountered them much earlier in the game) Two chests along the path upwards (on 4F and 7F) Boss – Omniscient. The rare steal from Omniscient is a second Kornago Gourd, but it is not particularly worthwhile. Using the Carbuncle summon makes this boss battle much easier.

Underwater Exploration

  • Proceed to the catapult under Crescent town and find Cid. After the scenes, you will have access to a submarine again.
  • Go underwater and use the World Map item from your inventory to display 4 markers in the submerged section of the world map.
  • The northwest cave is the same Sea Floor Cave you explored back in World 2.
  • The center marker is Mr. Clio, an NPC who provides game statistics. Make sure to enter this area at least once for achievement purposes.
  • The northeast marker is the submerged Tower of Walse. Go here. Proceed to the end of the tower (enemies in this area do not count for the bestiary). Against the Gogo boss, simply wait for approximately two minutes without taking any actions. You will then obtain the Mimic Job class.
  • Then, proceed to The Great Sea Trench, the center-east marker on the underwater world map.

The Great Sea Trench

  • Besides the usual Gargoyle enemies, the enemies in the Great Sea Trench are all named “Unknown”:
    • Unknown (#168) – Rare encounter
    • Unknown (#169)
    • Unknown (#170)
    • Unknown (#171)
    • Unknown (#172)
    • Gargoyle
  • Note: Unknown #168 and Unknown #171 enemies appear visually identical. #168 is a rarer spawn. Ensure you encounter both enemy types for bestiary completion, although neither is missable.
  • This dungeon is mostly linear.
    • B2F – Simply collect the chest and continue.
    • B3F – Just a save point.
    • B4F – The path is linear. In the second room on this floor, click the northeast skull to reveal a path to a chest containing a Flame Ring.
    • B5F – Use Float status on your party and proceed to the next floor.
    • B6F – Two chests on this floor. Proceed to the next area.
    • B7F – A mini dwarf kingdom. Purchase items if needed and proceed south. In the underwater lake area, proceed to an alcove in the southeast to recharge the Magic Lamp key item.
    • B8F – Skip the chest in the center of the room for now. Click the easternmost skull to reveal the last chest in the dungeon, completing your Item Collection for the Great Sea Trench. Then click each of the three skulls in the southwest area once each, then click the center chest you skipped previously.
    • Fight the triple boss encounter to obtain the third tablet. Break Spellblade attacks are effective against these bosses.
  • You can now obtain three more sealed weapons from Kuza, the Sealed Castle.

Istory Falls

  • To reach Istory Falls, you must first proceed through the Sea Floor Cave located underwater in the northwest.
  • The underwater cave section is the same as it was in World 2. Continue through the cave to reach Istory Falls itself.
    • Mercury Bat
    • Coral
    • Aquagel
    • Steel Fist
    • Alchymia (may be accompanied by a “???” enemy, which Alchymia will transform into a different monster)
    • Tonberry (can rarely drop Mirage Vest armor)
    • Gargoyle
  • This dungeon is linear. Even in the one room that appears to be a fork in the path, both branches lead to the same room anyway. Use Find Passages and Find Pits (Thief abilities) to collect all chests. Consult your in-game map for chest locations.
  • At the end of Istory Falls, fight Leviathan and obtain the Leviathan summon.
  • Obtain the final three sealed weapons from Kuza, the Sealed Castle.

9. The Final Stretch

Final Sidequests

  • Use the black chocobo you obtained from Phantom Village to fly to the large desert in the northeast corner of the map.
  • Several final world map enemy encounters can be found here:
    • Ankheg
    • Ammonite
    • Landcrawler (check the southeast section of this desert; you can use Death magic to instantly kill Landcrawlers).

Phoenix Tower

  • Enter the Phoenix Tower located on the south side of the desert.
    • Lemure
    • Parthenope
    • Cherie
  • Phoenix Tower is a 30-floor tower dungeon. Most floors have two exits, one that is trapped and one that is not. The trapped exits will simply lead to a winnable enemy encounter.
  • Every 5 floors you will encounter two pots. Both contain an item to collect, but one of each pair of pots is a Magic Pot enemy. Do not attempt to fight Magic Pots. Instead, simply throw an Elixir item at a Magic Pot to receive a large amount of AP.
  • At the top of Phoenix Tower, you will obtain the Phoenix summon.

Blue Magic Note:
Roulette – From Parthenope enemies in Phoenix Tower. If you have collected all other Blue Magic spells listed in this guide, Roulette should be the last one to obtain for a complete Blue Magic collection. Otherwise, consult our Final Fantasy V Blue Magic Guide.

North Mountain

  • Now proceed to the northeast side of the desert to re-enter North Mountain.
  • Simply proceed through the linear path to fight Bahamut. Flare Spellblade + Rapid-Fire combo attacks are effective in this battle.
  • You will earn Bahamut as a summon after defeating him.

10. The Interdimensional Rift

  • The Interdimensional Rift is the final dungeon in Final Fantasy V. None of the enemies or chests within the Interdimensional Rift are missable from this point onward. Only certain stealable items from bosses are unique, which will be mentioned specifically.
  • For more detailed strategies for bosses in this area, consult our Final Fantasy V Boss Guide.

Interdimensional Rift – The Desert

  • No new enemies or chests in this desert section of the Interdimensional Rift. Simply proceed to the next section.

Interdimensional Rift – The Ruins

  • New enemies in this ruins section include:
    • Grenade
    • Baldanders
    • Death Dealer
  • The path is fairly linear, leading to 6 chests (6/22 for this total Interdimensional Rift area).

Interdimensional Rift – The Phantom Village

  • No new enemies or chests in this Phantom Village section of the Interdimensional Rift. Simply proceed to the next section.

Interdimensional Rift – The Forest

  • New enemies in this forest section include:
    • White Flame
    • Moss Fungus
    • Farfarello
  • Use your in-game map to locate 4 more chests (10/22 for the total area).
  • Boss – Calofisteri. Nothing particularly noteworthy about this boss, and nothing valuable to steal. Poison-based attacks are effective.

Interdimensional Rift – The Cave

  • New enemies in this cave section include:
    • Orukat
    • Great Dragon
    • Achelon
  • Use your in-game map to locate entrances between waterfalls. Walk into a waterfall to find a chest containing an Angel Ring (11/22).
  • Then continue along the linear path to find another chest with a Coral Ring (12/22).
  • Optional Boss – Omega. This is one of the game’s superbosses. Thundaga Spellblade + Rapidfire combo attacks are effective. Nothing valuable to steal from Omega.

Interdimensional Rift – The Library

  • No chests or random enemy encounters in this library section. Examine the book on the table to initiate a boss battle against Apanda. Nothing valuable to steal from Apanda. Apanda is weak to Fire-based attacks.

Interdimensional Rift – The Tower

  • New enemies in this tower section include:
    • Ninja
    • Dragon Aevis
  • This section features a linear path with no chests to collect. Use Find Passages (Thief ability) to navigate. No boss encounter in this tower section.

Interdimensional Rift – Dimension Castle

  • New enemies in this Dimension Castle section include:
    • Sword Dancer
    • Death Claw
    • Fury
    • Yojimbo
    • Iron Giant (found on the top inner floor of the castle)
  • You will encounter a significant number of boss battles in this section, so be prepared.
  • Proceed to the western side hall and follow the southern path to a chest containing a Thor Hammer (13/22).
  • Do the same on the eastern side hall for a chest containing Hermes Sandals (14/22).
  • Use the staircase to descend into the jail basement. Proceed to fight all of the old man NPC enemies located in the jail cells. These are miniboss encounters.
  • Collect two chests located within the jail cells (16/22).
  • You can optionally fight Azulmagia in the southwest cell. Azulmagia has Titan’s Gloves as his rare steal item, which is the only location in the game to obtain Titan’s Gloves. You can use the Self-Destruct Blue Magic spell to defeat Azulmagia easily.
  • On the right side of the jail area, you will fight Catastrophe.
  • Exit the jail area through the right-side stairs.
  • Then ignore the central building in this area and proceed to the west side of the jail to obtain a Man-Eater sword (17/22).
  • Now enter the central building. You can proceed down the staircase inside to create a shortcut for future navigation.
  • You are about to fight Halicarnassus. Pro-tip: Transform your entire party into Toads before engaging Halicarnassus, as Halicarnassus will cast Ribbit (Toad status) on her first turn. You will fight Halicarnassus after proceeding past the throne in the central building.
  • After defeating Halicarnassus, you will fight Twintania. You can steal a second Titan’s Axe from Twintania if desired, but only when Twintania is charging Giga Flare. Otherwise, use Break Spellblade attacks on Twintania when it is charging Giga Flare.

Interdimensional Rift – Finale

  • Again, consult our boss guide for more detailed boss strategies in this final section.
  • New enemies in this finale section include:
    • King Behemoth
    • Crystal Dragon
    • Necromancer
    • Gorgimera
    • Mindflayer
    • Crystelle
    • Belphegor
    • Mover
  • This section is relatively straightforward. You will easily find the 5 last chests to complete the Item Collection for the Interdimensional Rift area (22/22 for the area). However, be sure to note a chest located at the bottom of a downwards staircase. This chest houses Shinryu, one of the game’s ultimate superbosses. You will obtain the Ragnarok sword for defeating Shinryu.
  • Before fighting Shinryu (or skipping him for now), you will see Gilgamesh standing in your path. Fight him. He will flee very quickly. Your only objective in this battle is to STEAL HIS GENJI SHIELD before he escapes.
  • Near the end of the Interdimensional Rift, you will see a green light you can interact with. This is yet another boss, Necrophobe.
  • To defeat Necrophobe, eliminate his barrier protectors first, and then damage Necrophobe directly with any element. When Necrophobe has approximately 10,000 health remaining, Gilgamesh will appear one last time, now as your ally for the first and only time in the game. As Gilgamesh and Necrophobe exchange banter, steal Genji Armor from Gilgamesh – the last of the four Genji equipment pieces.
  • All that remains is to defeat Exdeath and save the merged world!
  • Note that once you beat the game, you will be prompted to create a clear save file. Loading this clear save file will place you outside of the final boss encounter, as if you have completed everything up to the final boss. Use this opportunity to collect anything you might have missed at this point before re-engaging Exdeath and completing the game.
