Classic WoW First Aid Leveling Guide: Fast and Efficient 1-300

First Aid is an invaluable secondary skill in Classic World of Warcraft, available to all classes without taking up a primary profession slot. It’s a crucial skill for minimizing downtime between combats, allowing you to quickly heal after taking damage. For melee classes, especially those lacking inherent healing spells, First Aid is highly recommended for solo leveling and general survivability.

If you’re still on your journey to level 60 or just starting a new character, consider using a leveling guide to speed up the process. Zygor’s 1-60 Leveling Guide is a popular in-game guide that provides step-by-step instructions and quest details directly on your screen, eliminating the need to constantly switch between game windows and external websites.

Leveling Your First Aid Skill: Step-by-Step

This guide breaks down the First Aid leveling process into skill ranges and the materials you’ll need for each stage.

First Aid Level 1 – 75: Linen Bandages

Start by training First Aid at any of the trainers listed above. Begin crafting Heavy Linen Bandages as soon as you learn the skill. Continue making these bandages until you reach skill level 75.

Journeyman First Aid (75 – 150)

Once you reach First Aid skill level 50, visit your First Aid trainer again to learn Journeyman First Aid. This will allow you to progress beyond skill level 75.

First Aid Level 75 – 150: Wool Bandages

  • Skill Range 75 – 150: Craft approximately 60 x Wool Bandage
    • Materials: 60 Wool Cloth

After becoming a Journeyman, start crafting Wool Bandages. Continue crafting Wool Bandages until you reach skill level 150.

Expert First Aid (150 – 225)

To train First Aid beyond level 150 and become an Expert, you’ll need to acquire a special book. Before you leave your trainer at level 150, make sure you learn the Silk Bandage recipe!

You need the Expert First Aid – Under Wraps book to continue your training.

This book, along with the recipes for Heavy Silk Bandage and Mageweave Bandage, is sold by specific vendors depending on your faction:

You can also often find these books on the Auction House if you prefer to avoid traveling to these specific locations, especially if you are a lower level character.

Purchase the Expert First Aid – Under Wraps book and right-click it in your inventory to learn Expert First Aid. If you didn’t learn the Silk Bandage recipe from a trainer previously, ensure you do so before proceeding.

First Aid Level 150 – 225: Silk Bandages and Heavy Silk Bandages

  • Skill Range 150 – 180: Craft approximately 30 x Silk BandageUse up any remaining Silk Cloth from previous leveling.
  • Skill Range 180 – 225: Craft approximately 50 x Heavy Silk Bandage
    • Materials for Heavy Silk Bandages: 100 Silk Cloth

Use the Manual: Heavy Silk Bandage book (purchased from the same vendors as Expert First Aid book) to learn the Heavy Silk Bandage recipe around skill level 180. Craft Silk Bandages until around skill level 180, then switch to crafting Heavy Silk Bandages until you reach skill level 225.

Artisan First Aid (225 – 300) and The Triage Quest

To become an Artisan First Aider and train beyond skill level 225, you must complete a faction-specific quest chain starting with the Triage quest. You need to be level 35 and have First Aid skill 225 to begin.

The quest chain starts with Alliance Trauma (Alliance) or Horde Trauma (Horde), which then leads to the crucial Triage (Alliance) or Triage (Horde) quest. These quests are available in Dustwallow Marsh (Theramore Isle for Alliance) or Arathi Highlands (Hammerfall for Horde).

It’s highly recommended to bring the materials needed to reach First Aid skill 290 with you when you undertake the Triage quest. You will learn the Heavy Mageweave Bandage and Heavy Runecloth Bandage recipes from the quest giver NPCs:

  • Alliance: Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen in Dustwallow Marsh (Theramore Isle). He is located inside the main keep, ground floor, in a corner room.
  • Horde: Doctor Gregory Victor in Arathi Highlands (Hammerfall). He is inside the building immediately to the left upon entering Hammerfall.

Bring approximately 60 x Mageweave Cloth and 30 x Runecloth with you to continue leveling after the quest.

Tips for Completing the Triage Quest Successfully

The Triage quest requires you to quickly heal injured patients. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Enable NPC Health Bars: Press CTRL + V or enable “Show NPC names” in Interface Options to see health bars above patients’ heads for easy monitoring.
  • Zoom Out Camera: Pull your camera out to third person view to have a wider view of the room and patients.
  • Action Bar Bandages: Place the special triage bandages provided by the doctor onto your action bar for quick access. Keybind them for even faster response. Do not use your own bandages.
  • Positioning: Stand in the center of the room for easy access to all patients.
  • Pre-select and Queue Heals: As you finish healing one patient, left-click to pre-select the next. As soon as your current heal completes, activate the triage bandage hotkey to immediately begin healing the pre-selected patient. This saves precious seconds.
  • Prioritize Critically Injured Patients:
    • Undead Patient (Critically Injured): Will die after you heal 2 other patients. Heal these first!
    • Troll Patient (Badly Injured): Will die after you heal 4 other patients. Heal these second.
    • Orc Patient (Injured): Has the longest survival time. Heal these last.
  • Turn in Quest Immediately: Once you’ve saved 15 patients, turn in the quest right away. Do not wait, as patients can die while you are waiting to turn it in, causing the quest to fail.

Following these tips should make completing the Triage quest much easier.

First Aid Level 225 – 300: Mageweave and Runecloth Bandages

  • Skill Range 225 – 290: Talk to Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen / Doctor Gregory Victor after completing Triage to learn Heavy Mageweave Bandage. Craft approximately 30 x Heavy Mageweave Bandage

    • Materials: 60 Mageweave Cloth
  • Skill Range 290 – 300: Talk to Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen / Doctor Gregory Victor again to learn Heavy Runecloth Bandage. Craft approximately 15 x Heavy Runecloth Bandage

    • Materials: 30 Runecloth

After completing the Triage quest, speak to Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen (Alliance) or Doctor Gregory Victor (Horde) again to learn the Heavy Mageweave Bandage recipe. Craft these bandages until you reach skill level 290.

Finally, speak to them one last time at skill level 290 to learn Heavy Runecloth Bandage. Craft these bandages to reach the maximum First Aid skill of 300!

Congratulations on reaching First Aid skill level 300 in Classic WoW! You are now fully equipped to keep yourself (and perhaps others) in top shape throughout your adventures in Azeroth.
