Customer Service Fail: A Comical Yet Frustrating Chase for Information
The day before my scheduled trip, GetYourGuide requested my passport information, which seemed normal enough. However, the morning of the tour was when things started to unravel. The pickup was set before 7 AM at my hotel. I waited, and waited, and waited. No one showed up. No message, no call – complete radio silence from the contact who had messaged me for my passport details.
Frustration mounting, I started making calls to figure out what was happening. After finally getting through to someone, I was bizarrely instructed to text a WhatsApp number for information. Incredibly, this was the same number I had just called from! I was literally speaking to the person I was supposed to text!
This individual then put me on hold, only to return and tell me he was “texting” me the reason for the cancellation. Why text when we were already on the phone? It made absolutely no sense. After an hour of waiting and this absurd phone call, I had to demand a straight answer. Finally, I was informed the trip was canceled due to bad weather – information they apparently planned to communicate via text, eventually. Why customers weren’t proactively notified of this cancellation is beyond me. I had to chase them down to get basic information about my own booking.
The Refund Runaround: Don’t Expect Your Money Back Quickly
Naturally, I immediately requested a refund. I was initially told it would take 1-7 business days. That timeframe came and went with no refund and no communication. After initiating emails to inquire about the missing refund and the canceled trip I never received notice about, the story changed. Suddenly, the refund timeframe was extended to 14 days.
This experience with GetYourGuide has been a masterclass in poor customer service, lack of communication, and unreliable operations. Based on my personal ordeal, this GetYourGuide review is a strong recommendation: do not book with them. Save yourself the stress, the wasted time, and potentially lost money. There are plenty of other tour operators out there – choose one that values customer communication and reliability over this chaotic mess.
