Guido’s Fresh Marketplace: A Pittsfield MA Food Destination for Over 40 Years

For more than four decades, Guido’s Fresh Marketplace has stood as a cornerstone of quality produce and gourmet foods in Pittsfield, MA, and the wider Berkshire County region. Founded in 1979 by brothers Chris and Matt Masiero, Guido’s began as a humble roadside stand on Route 7 in Pittsfield. Leveraging their expertise in culinary arts and produce retail, the Masiero brothers aimed to bring exceptional freshness and flavor to Western Massachusetts, quickly establishing Guido’s as the go-to spot for premium ingredients.

The popularity of Guido’s original roadside market soon necessitated expansion. Just two years later, in 1983, Guido’s Fresh Marketplace opened its doors south of the original location on Route 7 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. This expanded marketplace concept brought together specialized vendors offering meat, fish, flowers, and prepared foods, creating a comprehensive, old-world style food emporium. Guido’s Fresh Marketplace rapidly became a destination, attracting loyal customers from across the region and beyond, drawn to its unique atmosphere and high-quality selections. The success in Pittsfield paved the way for a second Guido’s location, which opened in Great Barrington in 1995, further extending their reach and impact.

Guido’s seamlessly blends the ambiance of a traditional European marketplace with the convenience of a modern grocery store. Within both locations, Bella Flora enhances the shopping experience with its full-service floral offerings, including fresh-cut flowers, custom gift baskets, seasonal plants, gifts, and home décor items. Mazzeo’s Meat and Seafood provides a premier selection of certified Black Angus beef, Kurobuta pork, and Murray’s all-natural, free-range poultry. Customers also find a wide array of gourmet chicken and store-made sausages, alongside fresh, frozen, smoked, and prepared seafood, including live lobsters. Beyond fresh ingredients, Guido’s boasts an impressive selection of prepared foods, house-made pizzas, gourmet cheeses, baked goods, and custom sandwiches. A full salad bar and hot bar feature daily specials, complemented by a curated selection of craft beer and wine. To complete the experience, Café Rena, a full-service café located within Guido’s, offers smoothies, fresh juices, and a variety of coffee drinks, making Guido’s Fresh Marketplace in Pittsfield MA, and its sister location, true culinary destinations.
