How to Guide Yunobo in Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Vah Rudania Walkthrough

The Divine Beast Vah Rudania quest presents a challenging journey through the fiery landscapes of Breath of the Wild. This comprehensive guide will walk you through every step, focusing on how to effectively guide Yunobo to complete this crucial part of the game. Get ready to brave Death Mountain, encounter fiery enemies, and claim valuable rewards.

Preparing for Death Mountain and Yunobo’s Quest

Your ultimate destination is Death Mountain, home to Goron City. Here, you’ll receive the Divine Beast Vah Rudania main quest from the Goron chief. However, some preparation is key for survival.

Foothill Stable and Fireproof Elixirs

The Eldin Tower is the closest to Death Mountain. Before heading there, make your way to Foothill Stable, located on the path between Eldin and Lanayru Towers.

At Foothill Stable, you can purchase fireproof elixirs from Gaile. These are essential for surviving the extreme heat. Three elixirs cost 150 rupees and provide over six minutes of fireproof protection each.

Alternatively, you can craft your own fireproof elixirs:

  • Two fireproof lizards (abundant on the path to Death Mountain)
  • One Bokoblin horn (likely already in your inventory)

You’ll also find Mo’a Keet Shrine near Foothill Stable, which serves as a convenient fast travel point.

Journey to Goron City

From Eldin Tower, paraglide north towards the road leading to Goron City. Starting from Foothill Stable with a horse is another viable option for the initial part of the journey.

As you advance, look for fireproof lizards and heat-resistant summerwing butterflies. These can be cooked for additional heat resistance. Breakable stones, often found in caves (marked by dotted lines on the map), are a good source of gems.

Encountering the Igneo Talus

Inside one of the caves, you will encounter an Igneo Talus. To defeat it, use ice-based weapons or arrows to cool it down. Then, climb onto its back, lock onto the ore deposit, and strike with your weapon.

Locating the Qua Raym Shrine

Along the way, you’ll cross paths with Qua Raym Shrine. This shrine requires the use of magnesis to move four metal cubes and create a pathway across the volcanic river.

Securing Flamebreaker Armor

Continue up Death Mountain and look for Kima at the Southern Mine. He offers the Fireproof Lizard Roundup side quest. Collect 10 fireproof lizards and he will reward you with Flamebreaker armor.

To find the lizards easily, take a picture of one with your camera and set your Sheikah Slate to detect them. Crouch as you approach to catch them.

Equipping the Flamebreaker armor significantly reduces the need for fireproof elixirs. The Flamebreaker helm and Flamebreaker boots can be purchased at the Goron City shop.

Finding Yunobo at the Abandoned North Mine

After speaking with Chief Bludo in Goron City, you will be tasked with finding Yunobo, who is missing.

Reach him by navigating platforms over a lava river. Be cautious of Fire-Breath Lizalfos archers. Using ice arrows is highly effective against them.

Upon reaching Yunobo, you’ll find him trapped. Climb to the top of the structure and lift a rock for a Korok Seed, then paraglide to the platform with a canon.

  1. Place a round remote bomb into the canon.
  2. Hit the switch to move the canon.
  3. Detonate the bomb when the canon is aimed at the rock pile blocking Yunobo.

After freeing Yunobo, collect 10 ice arrows and a purple rupee from the treasure chests in his room.

Guiding Yunobo to Divine Beast Vah Rudania

After returning to Bludo, you’ll need to meet Yunobo at Eldin Bridge. If you find yourself lost, remember to climb the rocks above Goron City.

Along the way, you can use mine carts powered by stasis. You’ll also pass Daqa Toh Shrine, a quick shrine to complete for an additional waypoint.

At Eldin Bridge, Yunobo is attacked by Black Moblins. Use a sneakstrike to take down the first one.

Yunobo will use Daruk’s Protection to lower the bridge. Cross it to begin your ascent towards Divine Beast Vah Rudania.

Ascending Death Mountain with Yunobo

The path to Divine Beast Vah Rudania is guarded by sentries. If spotted, magma bombs will rain down.

Whistle to have Yunobo follow or stop. Here’s a breakdown of how to navigate this section:

  1. Run under the overhanging rock when the first sentry turns away.
  2. Climb the cliff, push a boulder onto the sentry, and pick up the iron sledgehammer.
  3. Position the canon, have Yunobo enter, and launch him towards Vah Rudania.
  4. Use magnesis to destroy the sentries with metallic blocks.
  5. Defeat the Black Mogoblin on the way to the next canon.
  6. Load Yunobo into the canon and fire at Vah Rudania again.
  7. Use a metal slab or cube to destroy the high-up sentry, or use updrafts to get around it.
  8. Eliminate the remaining sentries using metallic cubes.
  9. Kill the two Black Mogoblins protecting the final canon.
  10. Load Yunobo and a bomb into the canon, and fire one last time at Divine Beast Vah Rudania.

After the cutscene, you’ll arrive at Divine Beast Vah Rudania.

Inside Divine Beast Vah Rudania

Once inside, activate the five terminals and collect the treasure chests. Follow these steps for an efficient walkthrough:

  1. Treasure Chest Outside: Turn around from the Travel Gate and walk down Rudania’s tail.
  2. Room 1: Kill the three eyeballs in goo to get a Dragonbone Boko Club, five ice arrows, and a torch. Light the torch in the northeast corner to access the next room.
  3. Room 2: Defeat the guardian scout and the glowing eyeballs. Collect the Royal Bow and ten arrows.
  4. Room 3: Light the torch in the northwest corner to access the map terminal and activate the Divine Beast Vah Rudania map.
  5. Terminal 1: Burn the ivy-covered door in Room 1 to reach the terminal. Burn the ivy behind the terminal to reveal an Ancient Gear.
  6. Terminal 2: Light an arrow with a blue flame and shoot it through the hole to light the unlit torch. Use a metal cube to block the flames and access the terminal.
  7. Terminal 3: Light the torch with a blue flame, and rotate Rudania to walk up the ramp. Light the torch to release a ball, and shoot the eyeballs blocking your path. Open the two treasure chests for an Ancient Core and a Royal Bow.
  8. Terminal 4: Use magnesis to move the metallic block and nudge the ball into the hole to open access to the terminal.
  9. Terminal 5: Tilt the map and climb the ramp. Paraglide to the platform with the terminal.

Defeating Fireblight Ganon

After activating all five terminals, jump down to the main control unit to start the Fireblight Ganon boss fight.

Phase 1

Stay close to Fireblight Ganon to minimize his attacks. If he flings fireballs, hide behind pillars.

Phase 2

Fireblight Ganon will float above and hurl fireballs. Use ice arrows to destroy the fireballs. When he’s surrounded by a yellow orb, toss a remote bomb to break his shield and make him vulnerable. Unleash your strongest attacks to defeat him.

Completing the Quest

After defeating Fireblight Ganon, you will receive a heart container and Daruk’s Protection. Speak to Bludo in Goron City to complete the Divine Beast Vah Rudania quest. Finally, open the treasure chest in Bludo’s house for the Boulder Breaker.

This detailed guide provides the knowledge to effectively guide Yunobo, conquer Death Mountain, and emerge victorious from the Divine Beast Vah Rudania quest.
