It’s a natural human desire to know the names of those we interact with, especially those we work alongside. However, when it comes to connecting with your spirit team, focusing solely on names can be limiting. While some spirit guides readily offer a name, others don’t, and understanding why is crucial to building a meaningful connection.
Spirit guides operate outside of our social norms and customs. They understand them, but they don’t necessarily adhere to them unless it benefits us. If knowing a name, appearance, or specific way of communication makes you more comfortable, your guides may adopt those forms. Their primary mission is to guide you, and your awareness of their presence facilitates that process. However, this doesn’t apply to every single spirit guide. Just like us, the spirit guide realm is diverse. Some guides will appear in a way that challenges you to broaden your awareness.
Choosing a Name or Changing It
Even if a guide does give you a name initially, you are welcome to change it.
If a guide presents themselves with a name you dislike or associate with negative experiences, it’s perfectly acceptable to choose a different name. Your guide will understand. The most important thing is for you to feel comfortable and open to communication.
Alternatively, a guide might choose a specific name to aid you in healing or overcoming past traumas. The underlying intention behind any name is to establish a genuine connection with you.
Why Names Are Not That Important
Spirit guides exist as a form of energy, each with a unique frequency. When you connect with a spirit guide through dreams, meditation, or intuitive sessions, your extrasensory perception detects their specific frequency. This frequency may feel familiar, indicating that the guide has been with you for a long time, perhaps even your entire life.
Everything, including humans, animals, and objects, possesses an energy frequency. While we often identify people through our five senses, we also perceive them on an extrasensory level. This energetic connection transcends names and physical characteristics.
Here’s a way to understand how you’re actually connecting with the unique energy signature of a person.
- Think about someone you know well. Visualize them clearly in your mind. Consider their facial features, their way of speaking, smiling, and laughing.
- Now, focus on how that person FEELS to you, not physically, but the thoughts and emotions that arise when you think of them. Does their energy feel like it has a shape? Do you get any natural images? For example, when you think of your best friend, their energy might feel like a soft, cozy blanket, or you might get an image of a serene lake in the mountains and sense their big heart and do-good attitude.
The images and emotions you receive represent that person’s energy frequency (or energy signature). You will always remember this about a person no matter how well you know them. You may forget their name, but you will never forget how their energy feels. This is very similar to connecting with your spirit guide.
Mother’s Intuition: An Example of Energetic Connection
The energetic connection between mothers and their children illustrates this concept further. Mothers often possess an uncanny ability to locate their children in crowded places, a phenomenon known as “mother’s intuition.” This intuition stems from tuning into their child’s energy frequency.
Don’t be discouraged if you struggle to learn your spirit guide’s name. If you do receive a name, that’s wonderful! But if not, any name you choose is perfectly acceptable. Connecting with your spirit guide is about recognizing and resonating with their energy frequency, not their given name. Focus on the feeling, the guidance, and the connection itself, and the name will become less important.
