Let’s delve into each step with detailed instructions and location guides.

Finding Lost Encryption Bits from Region Chests

Your Khvostov quest begins by collecting Lost Encryption Bits. Fifteen are required in total, with nine found in region chests and six in Cyst missions.

Nine golden region chests are hidden within three zones of the Pale Heart: The Landing, The Blooming, and The Impasse, each containing three chests. Here’s a breakdown of their locations:

The Landing Region Chest Locations

Each Landing region chest holds a key component for unlocking the Khvostov.

The Landing Region Chest Location 1

The first region chest in The Landing is situated just south of The Landing Transmat location. Head towards the building embedded in the rock wall, easily identifiable from the transmat zone.

Use the natural rock formations to jump into the room. The chest is located at the back of this hidden chamber, awaiting your discovery.

The Landing Region Chest Location 2

The second region chest in The Landing can be found within the tunnel system on the right side of the zone. Navigate to the location marked on the map to find the tunnel entrance.

Enter the tunnels and drop down the large central hole. Carefully land on the platform visible in the image above. The chest will be right there on this platform.

The Landing Region Chest Location 3

The third and final region chest in The Landing is tucked away behind a waterfall, located beneath one of the large bridges in the area. Travel to the marked location on the map to find this hidden spot.

Jump down behind the cascading waterfall to reveal the hidden chest. Claim your Lost Encryption Bit from within.

The Blooming Region Chest Locations

Continue your Khvostov guide quest in The Blooming to find three more region chests.

The Blooming Region Chest Location 1

The first Blooming region chest is positioned directly behind the Transmat zone for The Blooming. To reach it, head to the marked area on the map and look for a tunnel entrance in the nearby rock wall.

Proceed to the back of this area through the tunnel. The chest is located up on the ledge shown in the image. Jump up to claim your reward.

The Blooming Region Chest Location 2

The second Blooming region chest is situated high up in the large tree on the north side of The Blooming zone. It’s a prominent landmark easily visible from various points in the area.

Climb to the very top of the large tree to find the chest waiting for you. Ascend the branches and claim your Lost Encryption Bit.

The Blooming Region Chest Location 3

The third and final Blooming region chest is located just to the west of the large tree where you found the second chest. It’s a short distance away, along the cliff edge.

From the top of the tree, look west towards the cliff edge. You will easily spot the chest sitting along the edge, ready to be opened.

The Impasse Region Chest Locations

The final three region chests for the Khvostov quest are located in The Impasse region of the Pale Heart.

The Impasse Region Chest Location 1

The first region chest in The Impasse is hidden within the large schism on the north side of the area. This prominent geographical feature is hard to miss.

Head to the location marked on the map and jump down into the depths of the schism. The chest awaits at the bottom, granting you another Lost Encryption Bit.

The Impasse Region Chest Location 2

The second Impasse region chest is placed atop the large white structure on the east side of the map. This structure is a key landmark in The Impasse.

Climb to the top of the white structure. The chest is located at the highest point, offering a great view and a Lost Encryption Bit.

The Impasse Region Chest Location 3

The third and final region chest in The Impasse is tucked away in a small cave near the lost sector entrance. Locate the cave as indicated on the map.

Venture just inside the cave entrance to find the last region chest. Opening this completes the region chest portion of your Khvostov guide quest.

Finding Lost Encryption Bits from Cyst Missions

The next set of Lost Encryption Bits required for the Khvostov are found within the six Cyst Missions in the Pale Heart. These missions become available after completing the “Alone in the Dark” mission from Micah-10. You can collect the bits during your initial mission run, or revisit them later as they remain marked on the map. Look for interactable piles of technology to find these hidden items.

Aerial Ace Lost Encryption Bit Location

After completing the Aerial Ace mission, proceed across the lava as you normally would to exit the area.

Once you are safely off the lava, turn to your right. You will see a small alcove tucked away. The pile of technology is located inside this cubby.

Smothering Darkness Lost Encryption Bit Location

Upon completing the Smothering Darkness mission, proceed through the distinctive mouth-like cave that serves as the exit.

Inside this cave, look to your right. You’ll find the pile of technology containing the Lost Encryption Bit in plain sight.

Moth-Infested Cavern Lost Encryption Bit Location

As you enter the Moth-Infested Cavern mission, continue forward until you reach the first large room housing an Ogre. This room is encountered early in the mission.

Defeat the Ogre and then jump down as far as you can into the lower levels of this room. The pile of technology is located in one of the smaller rooms on the right side.

Searing Light Lost Encryption Bit Location

After finishing the Searing Light mission, search for a room characterized by a distinct purple glow. This room is a key landmark within the mission.

Enter the purple-lit room and head to the left. The technology pile is hidden behind a rock formation within this room.

Slayer Lost Encryption Bit Location

Once you complete the Slayer mission, look for a room situated above your current position, framed by prominent tree roots. This visual cue helps identify the correct area.

Enter this elevated room framed by tree roots. You will find the pile of technology inside, granting you another Lost Encryption Bit.

Sword Dance Lost Encryption Bit Location

Progress through the Sword Dance mission until you reach a specific room. You’ll know you’re in the correct location when you encounter a large Ogre that must be defeated.

Jump down to the area highlighted in the image. Use the sword relic provided in the mission to destroy the debris blocking your path. The pile of technology is located behind this debris, ready to be scanned.

Retrieving the Legendary Khvostov-7G

After collecting all 15 Lost Encryption Bits, you will receive the Lost Encryption Code. Travel to The Impasse and proceed west until you reach an area reminiscent of the Cosmodrome from the original Destiny. Enter through the doorway to access this familiar zone.

Navigate to the location shown in the image. Use your Lost Encryption Code to open the chest. Inside, you’ll find the Legendary Khvostov-7G, a nostalgic and powerful auto rifle ready for action.

How to Upgrade Your Khvostov to the Exotic Version

To transform your Legendary Khvostov into its Exotic counterpart, you need to gather additional items within the Pale Heart. This involves collecting all eight Visions of the Traveler, scattered throughout the destination. Hints for these Visions can be found in the Speaker’s Chambers in The Lost City, or you can consult a dedicated Visions of the Traveler guide for precise locations.

You will also need to acquire 17 Motes of Light. Eight Motes are obtained from the Visions of the Traveler, while the remaining nine are earned by defeating bosses in Overthrow activities. A Motes of Light guide can assist you in tracking these down efficiently. Once you possess all 17 Motes, they will coalesce into the Mote of Primordial Light.

With the Mote of Primordial Light and your eight Visions of the Traveler in hand, return to the Speaker’s Chamber. Place the Visions on their respective pedestals within the chamber. This action will cause a chest to materialize in the water. Use your Mote of Primordial Light to open this chest and claim the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X for your arsenal.

Congratulations, Guardian! You have successfully unlocked both the Legendary and Exotic versions of the Khvostov. This iconic auto rifle is ready to be wielded in your Destiny 2: The Final Shape adventures.
