Challenges in Patch 0.7.8

For those who’ve been running the previous iteration of this build and logged in after patch 0.7.8, you might have noticed a few hurdles. The most significant is mana regeneration. But don’t worry, we’ve tackled this head-on in the gear section. Passive skills have also seen some shifts; for instance, Sky Armor no longer grants movement speed. We’ll address all these changes and ensure the Zoomer remains top-tier.

Let’s re-establish the core philosophy of this build.

Build Philosophy: Speed and Efficiency for Monolith Farming

The essence of the Zoomer build remains unchanged: maximize damage, achieve blistering speed, and efficiently farm monoliths for that sweet loot. This build is your express lane to gearing up your other characters. When I need specific items for my alts, I hop on the Zoomer and get to farming. I’ve personally cleared 32 consecutive monoliths with this setup. It’s important to note, though, this isn’t primarily an arena build.

To enhance quality of life, the build utilizes three autocast skills: Storm Totem, Avalanche, and Maelstrom. While this might cause your character to momentarily pause to cast, the convenience is well worth it, in my experience.

Previously, elemental protection and attunement weren’t central to the build’s strategy. However, patch 0.7.8 has shifted the landscape. Keep reading to understand why these stats are now crucial.

Wishlist: Key Stats for the Zoomer Build

Based on community feedback from my Twitch stream (Twitch – Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8 PM CET), we’ve refined the wishlist for this build. To make the Zoomer truly shine, prioritize these stats:

  • Attunement: Scales with all our damage abilities and, crucially, provides elemental protection – a vital defensive layer in the current patch.
  • Mana Regeneration & Mana: Essential for sustained skill usage, addressing the mana issues introduced in 0.7.8.
  • Elemental and Cold Damage: Directly boosts our primary damage output, speeding up monolith clears.

Passive Skill Tree Overhaul

Passive skills have undergone significant changes, necessitating a revised allocation. Let’s break down the updated passive tree:

  • Primalist Tree:

    • Natural Attunement (8/8): This node is now even more valuable, scaling effectively and granting essential elemental protection.
    • Tempestborn (2/8): Provides a foundational damage boost.
    • Wisdom of the Wild (6/6): Increases spell damage, a core component of our offensive strategy.
    • Thorn Bond (4/5): Offers a substantial 16% increased damage, doubled to 32% when a minion is active (always active with totems).
  • Shaman Tree: Mastery in Shaman is key for doubling elemental protections when totems are active, enhancing survivability.

    • Shamanic Infusion (8/8): Further boosts attunement and elemental protection.
    • Silent Protector (2/8): Adds another layer of defensive protection.
    • Wind Bringer (10/10): A powerful node providing cold and physical damage, coupled with dodge chance. Crucially, all our spells deal cold or physical damage (or both), maximizing its effectiveness.
    • Shattered Heavens (5/5): Adds significant cold damage directly to our spells’ base damage, amplified by all damage increases.
    • Earthen Supremacy: More attunement to fuel our scaling.
    • Ancestral Speed (5/5): Provides a 35% chance to gain Haste on totem summon. With frequent totem casting, this offers near-constant movement speed boosts, crucial for the “Zoomer” playstyle.
    • Rune of Awe (8/8): A substantial source of added damage.
    • Protective Circle (5/5): While nerfed, it still offers valuable flat protection (150 across the board) with our consistent totem uptime (6 totems).
    • Elemental Shrine (8/8): Vital for mana regeneration and attunement, directly addressing our key needs.
    • Swirling Maelstrom (6/6): Provides mana, health, and importantly, contributes to casting 6 Maelstroms to activate movement speed bonuses – enhancing our zoom capabilities.
    • Ascendant Circle (6/8): With sufficient damage for monolith farming, points are shifted towards defense.
  • Druid Tree:

    • Soul’s Attendant (8/8): A highly effective defensive node for this build.
  • Beastmaster Tree: Points are invested here to reach Aspect of the Boar for damage reduction, further improving survivability.

Skill Specialization: Refined for Patch 0.7.8

While most skills remain largely consistent, some adjustments have been made. For detailed explanations of skills like Maelstrom and Avalanche, please refer to the skill specialization section in the original build guide description to avoid redundancy.

  • Ice Thorns: Still configured to autocast on hit (bottom right specialization). Defensive nodes on the bottom left are replaced with damage enhancements:

    • Cold Prison (2/5): Base damage increase.
    • Piercing Cold (5/5): Further base damage increase and piercing Ice Thorns.
    • Farwood Heart (4/4): Buff duration increase, retained from the previous build.
  • Thorn Totems: Slight adjustments for optimized synergy and damage:

    • North specialization ensures 5 totems are cast simultaneously with extended duration.
    • West specialization focuses on damage:
      • Ancient Power (2/4)
      • Impale (3/3)
    • Oaken Protection (5/5): Crucial for totem longevity, enhancing build synergy.
    • Homing Totems: For improved target acquisition.
    • Frenetic Attunement (1/spare point): Additional attunement boost.
  • Storm Totem (Replaces Tornado): This skill is now preferred over Tornado, providing movement speed and essential lightning resistance:

    • Limited Resistance (4/4): Reduces mana cost.
    • Static Field (3/3): Shock chance application.
    • Stormrider (4/4): Totem grants movement speed (40%) when shocking enemies.
    • Lightning Raider (4/4): Increases totem cast speed, amplifying shock frequency.
    • Steel Plating (3/4): Adds totem health.
    • Shielding Totem (2/2): Critically important for 400 lightning protection, addressing mana regen issues via Urzil’s Pride.

Gear: Solving Mana Issues and Enhancing Defenses

Gear choices are pivotal in resolving mana regeneration challenges and boosting overall effectiveness. Two unique items are game-changers and surprisingly accessible:

  • Urzil’s Pride (Unique Gloves): A cornerstone of mana sustain. While previously granting mana regen per 100 armor, it now provides mana regen per 100 lightning protection. With totems active, we achieve approximately 2000 lightning protection, translating to a significant 20% mana regeneration. This item drops frequently, making it easily obtainable.
  • Orchirian’s Petals (Unique Amulet): A guaranteed drop from a specific time rift, offering excellent stats and, crucially, further mana regeneration.

Beyond these uniques:

  • Mana Efficiency Amulet (15%): A must-have for mana cost reduction.
  • Spell Mana Cost Reduction Staff (Reduce Spell Mana Cost by 3): Another key piece for mana management.

The rest of my gear is, frankly, subpar. This highlights the build’s strength – it thrives even with mediocre gear, making it incredibly accessible for farming. My staff, for instance, has 161% increased fire damage (irrelevant to the build), and I’m using a level 27 ring. For a detailed gear breakdown, refer to the Tunklabs link provided in the description below.

Leveling

Endgame Playstyle

The playstyle remains virtually identical to the previous iteration. It’s all about speed and efficient clearing.

Let me know what you think of this updated Zoomer build guide! I hope it proves helpful in your Last Epoch adventures. Thanks for watching and sticking around until the end. See you all in the next guide! Bye-bye.
