Welcome to the ultimate Leather Crafting Guide Wow for the War Within expansion! If you’re looking to swiftly and affordably level your Leatherworking profession from 1 to 100, you’ve come to the right place. This guide provides a detailed, step-by-step approach to maximize your efficiency and minimize your gold expenditure.
Leatherworking pairs exceptionally well with Skinning. In fact, we highly recommend leveling these professions in tandem. Having Skinning will significantly simplify material acquisition, making your Leatherworking journey much smoother and more cost-effective. If you’re also interested in leveling Skinning, be sure to check out our comprehensive Skinning Leveling Guide. Alternatively, you can purchase the necessary leathers from the Auction House, but be prepared for a potentially hefty gold investment.
Finding Your Leatherworking Trainer and Crafting Station
To begin your leather crafting adventure in the War Within, you’ll need to locate a Leatherworking trainer. You can find the War Within Leatherworking trainer in Dornogal.
Essential Shopping List for Leatherworking
Below is a comprehensive shopping list detailing the materials you’ll need to reach Leatherworking skill level 62. Please note that the materials for levels 62-100 are not included here, as there are several recipe options available for those levels, allowing for flexibility based on material prices and availability.
Remember, quality is irrelevant when it comes to leveling your Leatherworking skill. Always opt for the cheapest materials available to minimize your costs.
Khaz Algar Leatherworking Leveling Guide (1-62)
This section provides a detailed walkthrough for leveling your Khaz Algar Leatherworking from skill level 1 to 62.
Maximize Your First Craft Bonus
Keep in mind the “First Craft Bonus”: each time you craft an item for the very first time, you’ll earn 1 Khaz Algar Leatherworking Knowledge talent point. These knowledge points are incredibly valuable and are subject to a weekly cap from other sources.
To take full advantage of this bonus, we recommend crafting one mail armor piece and one leather armor piece whenever possible. This strategy ensures you receive your First Craft Bonus while simultaneously gaining skill points from crafting, optimizing your leveling efficiency.

TWW Leatherworking Specialization Guide and Builds
Skill Levels 25 – 35
Prioritize crafting these items first as they will turn yellow at skill level 30, meaning they will provide skill-ups less frequently.

- 1x Spelunker’s Practiced Sash – Requires: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 10x Gloom Chitin

Then, craft 1x Spelunker’s Practiced Mitts:

Make sure to craft the Tracker’s Toughened Shoulderguards first in this range.
Craft 1x Tracker’s Toughened Shoulderguards and 1x Spelunker’s Practiced Shoulders:
- 1x Tracker’s Toughened Shoulderguards – Requires: 30x Gloom Chitin, 1x Sunless Carapace
- 1x Spelunker’s Practiced Shoulders – Requires: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide
Skill Levels 50 – 56
Craft 1x Tracker’s Toughened Links and 1x Spelunker’s Practiced Britches:
- 1x Tracker’s Toughened Links – Requires: 30x Gloom Chitin, 1x Sunless Carapace

Craft 1x Spelunker’s Practiced Hat and 1x Tracker’s Toughened Headgear:
- 1x Spelunker’s Practiced Hat – Requires: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide
- 1x Tracker’s Toughened Headgear – Requires: 30x Gloom Chitin, 1x Sunless Carapace
Skill Levels 62 – 70
At this stage, check the Auction House prices for Gloom Chitin and Stormcharged Leather. Craft approximately 11 of whichever item is cheaper between Tracker’s Toughened Headgear and Spelunker’s Practiced Hat:
- Option 1 (Cheaper Gloom Chitin): 11x Tracker’s Toughened Headgear – Requires per craft: 30x Gloom Chitin, 1x Sunless Carapace (Total for 11: 330x Gloom Chitin, 11x Sunless Carapace)
- Option 2 (Cheaper Stormcharged Leather): 11x Spelunker’s Practiced Hat – Requires per craft: 30x Stormcharged Leather, 1x Thunderous Hide (Total for 11: 330x Stormcharged Leather, 11x Thunderous Hide)
Be aware that both recipes will turn green for the last 3 skill points, so you might need to craft a few extra to reach level 70.
Skill Levels 70 – 91 (Optional, but Faster)
If you have access to the recipes in this section, it’s highly recommended to craft these items first to accelerate your journey to level 100. If not, you can skip directly to the 91-100 section.
The Optional Reagents and Leg Armor Kits crafted in this range are not Bind on Pickup (BoP), meaning you can sell any excess on the Auction House to potentially recoup some of your gold investment. Since they don’t require any BoP materials, reaching level 91 is easily achievable if you have sufficient gold to purchase materials.
If these items are selling for a profit on your realm, consider crafting more than needed to further offset your leveling costs. All recipes in this section will remain green in skill color until level 100, so you may need to craft more than strictly necessary.

Profession Equipment for Leveling (Up to Skill 90)
Each piece of profession equipment grants 2 skill points until you reach level 90. However, crafting them requires Artisan’s Acuity. To level efficiently using these, utilize Patron, Public, or Personal crafting orders to obtain skill points without expending your own Artisan’s Acuity, as using it directly for tools you won’t personally use would be inefficient.

Skill Levels 91 – 100: Final Stretch
Both Optional Reagents and Leg Armor Kits continue to provide skill points all the way to 100. However, the last few points might progress slowly due to reduced skill-up chance. If you have unlocked any epic armor recipes through specializations or drops, consider utilizing crafting orders for these. Ideally, aim to stop crafting these leveling items at skill level 91, 94, or 97. Epic armor recipes grant 3 skill points each, so you would only need to complete 1-3 crafting orders to reach the maximum skill of 100.
If you intend to craft at least one piece of epic armor for your personal use, stopping at level 97 is highly recommended.
Every epic armor recipe requires a Spark of Omen, a Bind on Pickup (BoP) crafting reagent that cannot be purchased from the Auction House. Given that you can only obtain one Spark of Omen every two weeks, leveraging the crafting order system for these final skill points is the most efficient way to reach Leatherworking level 100.
Specialization Recipes for Leveling
Recipes learned within the Luxurious Leathers and Concrete Chitin specializations will unlock epic armor recipes suitable for leveling.
Within the Flawless Fortes specialization, only the Beastly Bulwarks path will provide leveling recipes, specifically the Smoldering Pollen Hauberk (mail) and Weathered Stormfront Vest (leather).
Drop-Acquired Recipes for Leveling
These recipes are unique as they provide skill points without requiring specialization investment and can be valuable alternatives if materials are readily available or cheaper.
Item | Recipe Source |

Adrenal Surge Clasp | Drop: Sikran, Captain of the Sureki Raid: Nerub-ar Palace |
Busy Bee’s Buckle | Drop: Goldie Baronbottom Dungeon: Cinderbrew Meadery |

Utilizing Crafting Orders for Skill Points (91-100)
Once you’ve acquired recipes from specializations, vendors, or drops, you can leverage the Crafting Orders system to efficiently gain those final skill points to reach level 100.
Public Crafting Orders: Limited Availability
When accessing the Crafting Orders interface, remember to click “Search” in the top-left corner of the Public Orders tab, as orders do not automatically load. Be aware that Public Crafting Orders tend to be scarce because players generally complete them very quickly after they are posted.
Unfortunately, Public Crafting Orders have not become widely adopted by players since Dragonflight, and this trend is expected to continue in The War Within. Many players favor Guild or Personal Crafting Orders for increased control over item quality and materials. The unpredictable nature of public orders discourages widespread use, resulting in a limited number of available orders.
Adding to the challenge, Public Orders are realm-specific. You will only see orders from players on your own realm. If you are playing on a lower population realm, there may be very few or even no Public Orders available.
NPC Crafting Orders: A Helpful Alternative
Fortunately, the introduction of NPC Crafting Orders provides a more accessible avenue for leveling. You’ll frequently receive epic armor crafting orders from NPCs, although you might need to accumulate more knowledge points before you can fulfill some of these higher-level orders.
These NPC orders are player-specific, meaning they cannot be claimed by other players. Think of them as Personal Orders directed to you by NPCs. However, they are randomly generated, so there is no guarantee that you will receive orders for recipes you are currently capable of crafting.
Personal Crafting Orders: Direct Player Interaction
To level up using Personal Crafting Orders, actively advertise your Leatherworking services in the trade chat channel. Most players seeking personal orders are aiming for guaranteed Rank 5 crafted items. Therefore, focus your advertising on the recipes you can craft at that top-tier quality level.
Additionally, consistently monitor the trade channel in Dornogal and other relevant zones to identify players who are actively seeking items that you can craft. Direct communication and proactive engagement can lead to valuable Personal Crafting Order opportunities, helping you bridge those last few skill points to Leatherworking mastery.
