1. Locations

Navigating Tonomi is part of the fun! This section provides an alphabetical guide to all the key locations you’ll explore during your summer vacation. Each entry includes a brief description and directions to help you find your way.

  • Akaneya

    • The guesthouse where Boku stays. The family resides on the first floor, while guests occupy the second. Upstairs, you’ll find guest rooms, a lobby, kitchen, washroom, bathroom, and a balcony. Downstairs includes Boku’s room, cousins’ room, telephone, living room, and veranda. An oak tree near the veranda is a good spot for beetle catching. The dining room and kitchen also function as a beachside cafe during the day.
  • Cave

    • Located in the inner mountain, accessible after the earthquake on August 20th. To reach it, exit Akaneya from the bathroom and cross the small bridge to the right. The cave connects to the locked gate near the secret beach. Swimming to the lowest section of the cave leads to the outer bay and a waterfall exit.
  • Charcoal Burning Hut

    • Uncle Wolf’s workplace. Reachable after the log bridge is built from August 15th. Cross the bridge, go through Fukurou Mountain, and you’ll find the hut. An oak tree here is another beetle-catching spot. The other side of the hut leads to the waterwheel and Okusawa Lake.
  • Clinic

    • Up the slope near the old hut, past the park and Yasuko’s home. The doctor (Yasuko and Hikari’s grandfather) and Nagisa the nurse are there from morning to 4:00 PM, though the clinic is open until 7:00 PM. It contains the doctor’s examination room, washroom, and ward. A backdoor leads to Sakura River, where you can catch fireflies at night near the entrance.
  • Fukurou Mountain

    • Accessible via the log bridge from August 15th (either build it yourself from August 15th-18th by cutting the withered tree near the water field with an axe, or it appears automatically on August 19th). One of the missing rocket valves can be found here.
  • Graveyard

    • Leave Akaneya’s entrance, turn left, past the yellow car, turn right, past the jizou statues, and up the stairs. You can meet You here between August 5th and 8th.
  • Inner Bay

    • The swimming area directly accessible from Akaneya, the seashore, the pier, and the staircase near You’s home.
  • Inner Mountain

    • Ranges from the telephone pole bridge area (before Okusawa) to where the cave appears on August 20th. The middle area is the mountain’s peak.
  • Jizou Statues

    • Offer fortunes when interacted with (press Circle button). “Excellent luck” increases chances of rare insects and big fish. Located by leaving Akaneya, turning left, passing the yellow car, then turning right.
  • Okusawa

    • Opens on August 9th. Reach it by crossing the telephone pole bridge. Contains a secret garden, a lake, and a wasabi field. Another rocket valve is located here.
  • Old Hut

    • Home to stray cats, located in the same screen as the “little river” (Boku’s name), before the park entrance.
  • Outer Bay

    • The deeper part of the ocean, beyond the inner bay. Reachable by swimming past the pier, seaweed near You’s home, or diving from the secret beach or the cave’s lowest section. Contains waterfalls and a sunken ship.
  • Park

    • Features a swing, slide, revolving whirl, sandpit, see-saw, and bars. Hikari is often by the see-saw during the day. Stairs to the pier are in front of the revolving whirl, and stairs to Yasuko and Hikari’s home are behind the swing.
  • Pier

    • Where Boku arrives in Tonomi. The boatman is here at 8 AM and 5 PM. The doctor fishes at the pier’s end on Sundays. You can also fish from the back of the pier, facing the outer bay.
  • Sakura River

    • The river by the clinic’s backdoor, flowing through several locations to the inner mountain.
  • Seaside Workshop

    • Obtain the fishing rod from Uncle between August 2nd and 7th. The axe appears here from August 15th. Uncle is present during the day from August 2nd to 7th.
  • Secret Base

    • A treehouse for insect sumo wrestling with cousins. Kick the wind vane or examine the mini boxing ring to call them. Reaching the upper part offers a view after defeating the queen beetle.
  • Secret Bay

    • In the outer bay. Swim along the cliff edge from You’s home, dive deep into the outer bay, and find an underwater tunnel. Features a waterfall and a bottle cap but no landable area. Discovering it triggers a diary entry.
  • Secret Beach

    • Hikari leads you here on August 7th. One of two landable areas in the outer bay.
  • Secret Garden

    • In Okusawa. Cross the telephone pole bridge, jump down, pass the beehive tree.
  • Totten Mountain

    • Entrance beside the wasabi field in Okusawa, opened after defeating Takeshi’s secret weapon in insect sumo. Earliest access is August 23rd.
  • Wasabi Field

    • Terraced field in Okusawa, near Totten Mountain’s entrance. Passing through it shows the waterwheel (but not the charcoal burning hut). Butterfly catching is good after rain in water puddles near the gate. Do not confuse with “water field.”
  • Water Field

    • Where you cross the log bridge to Fukurou Mountain and the charcoal burning hut. Do not confuse with “wasabi field.”
  • Yasuko and Hikari’s Home

    • Residence of Yasuko, Hikari, and the doctor. A garden is beside Yasuko’s room, and Hikari’s little farm is down the ladder from the garden.
  • You’s Home

    • Home of the rocket-making boy, You. Instead of going to the graveyard stairs, turn right and go up the slope.

2. Daily Activities

Each day in “My Summer Vacation 2” offers a variety of activities. Here’s a list of things you can do daily to fully immerse yourself in the summer experience:

a. Morning Exercise

b. Watering the Morning Glory

  • Boku’s morning glory (on the right) blooms after 9 days of watering. You can also water your cousins’ morning glories. Earlier blooming of cousins’ flowers results in a different diary entry. Flowers wither if not bloomed by August 13th, and blossomed ones wither by August 18th at the latest.

c. Finding Out Special Events

  • Talk to Hikari to learn about special events happening that day. See section 4 for details.

d. Searching for Bottle Caps and Rocket Valves

4. Hikari’s Event Hints

Hikari provides in-game guidance through “fortune-telling.” From August 2nd, talk to Hikari during the day to see where special events are happening. Red circles mark main story events, while numbered locations indicate side events that reveal more about characters and the story.

During the day, Hikari is usually in the park. She’s at the seashore with Yasuko on August 6th, 11th, and 23rd, and at home from August 16th to 18th. She can also be found on Akaneya’s second floor on August 13th, in the graveyard on August 14th, at the old hut on August 15th, and at You’s home on August 27th.

9. Insect Sumo Wrestling

Insect sumo wrestling takes place at the cousins’ secret base and is important for accessing certain areas by defeating king beetles.

9.1. Catching Beetles

Catch beetles by kicking oak trees (Circle button) at Akaneya veranda, forest behind Akaneya bathroom, telephone pole bridge, charcoal burning hut, and Totten Mountain path. Use sugar water (Triangle button in front of oak tree after getting it from the kitchen) for easier catching, getting up to three beetles per tree.

9.2. Basics of the Game

At the secret base, kick the weather vane (chicken-like) or examine the ring (Circle button) to call Takeshi and Shigeru for sumo wrestling. Talk to Takeshi for tips. Place your beetle in the ring, press Triangle to agitate it (red bar increases, blue stamina bar decreases). Click the bell to start. Choose difficulty between battles. Beetles win by pushing opponents out, stamina depletion, flipping, crushing, etc. Naming beetles is possible after 10 wins.

9.3. Defeating the King Beetles

From August 10th, challenge Takeshi’s queen beetle. Defeating it allows access to the secret base’s higher area for a view. Recommended beetles: Kin’oni Kuwagata (No. 63, Akaneya, evening/night) and Miyama Kuwagata (No. 53, Okusawa).

The great king beetle appears from August 22nd. Easy to defeat if your beetle has 50+ wins. Recommended beetles: Kin’oni Kuwagata (No. 63), Kabutomushi (No. 60, charcoal burning hut), and Ookuwagata (No. 54, Okusawa). Kin’oni Kuwagata is the strongest.

After defeating the great king beetle, Takeshi uses his secret weapon the next day. Use recommended beetles and store many in your cage for continuous fighting. Winning opens the path to Totten Mountain, with Takeshi showing the entrance.

9.4. Swapping Beetles

Swap beetles with cousins via the notebook in the green cage screen. Aegus Laevicollis (No. 64 Nebuto Kuwagata) and Lucanus Maculifemoratus (No. 65 Fujimiya Kuwagata) are swap-only beetles. Use high-value insects for swaps (those with “big” or “king” icons are valuable).

High-value swap insects:

  • No. 3 ジャコウアゲハ (Chinese Windmill)
  • No. 6 ホソオチョウ (Dragon Swallowtail)*
  • No. 10 ミカドアゲハ (Common Jay)*
  • No. 14 スジボソヤマキチョウ (Lesser Brimstone)
  • No. 20 クモマツマキチョウ (Orange Tip)*
  • No. 32 クジャクチョウ (European Peacock)
  • No. 38 テングチョウ (European Beak)
  • No. 40 アサギマダラ (Chestnut Tiger)
  • No. 42 キマダラルリツバメ (Spindasis Takanonis)
  • No. 48 ルーミスシジミ (Panchala Ganesa)*
  • No. 54 オオクワガタ (Dorcus Hopei Binodulosus)
  • No. 67 クロイトトンボ (Libellula Angelina)
  • No. 92 エゾゼミ (Lyristes Japonicus)

High-value insects in Totten Mountain:

  • No. 11 ウスバキチョウ (Parnassius Eversmanni)*
  • No. 19 ミヤマモンキチョウ (Moorland Clouded Yellow)*
  • No. 23 クモマベニヒカゲ (Erebia Ligea)
  • No. 98 オオカマキリ (Tenodera Aridifolia)*
  • No. 100 オオトラフコガネ (Paratrichius Doenitzi)

10. Other Tips and Tricks

a. Flow of Time

Time progresses when moving between areas, stopping swimming, finishing fishing, and ending insect sumo. Progress rates vary:

  • Akaneya area daytime & buildings: Slow: 4 min, Normal: 7 min, Fast: 10 min
  • Outside Akaneya area & nighttime: Slow: 3 min, Normal: 5 min, Fast: 7 min
  • Insect sumo round: Slow: 3 min, Normal: 5 min, Fast: 8 min
  • Swimming (time progresses upon reaching land): Slow: 15 min, Normal: 30 min, Fast: 51 min
  • Fishing (time progresses upon choosing “stop fishing”): Slow: 10 min, Normal: 20 min, Fast: 33 min

b. Getting Tanned

Boku’s tan level affects appearance and the last day photo message. Highest tan level makes Boku darker than cousins. Leave Boku in the sun to tan faster. Not removing the T-shirt results in partial tanning.

c. Poking Beehives

Poke beehives on trees to quickly return to Akaneya. Beehives are located: after clinic backdoor river crossing, secret garden entrance, by Okusawa wasabi field, and on Fukurou Mountain.

d. Riding the Bicycle

Find a bicycle at Akaneya’s entrance. Ride it for faster movement (real time, not game time). Time progresses only when moving between areas. Less convenient for stairs. Bicycle returns to Akaneya entrance next day if left elsewhere. Useful for nighttime exploration when stair areas are closed.
