Roadmap by SnowNinjaRaccoon & Trophy Guide by PowerPyx

Step 1: Initial Playthrough – Progress to Corrupted Monk & Guardian Ape

During your first playthrough of Sekiro, focus on experiencing the game naturally until you reach the mandatory boss encounters with the “Corrupted Monk” in Ashina Depths and the “Guardian Ape” in Sunken Valley. Up to this point, you can explore and progress without significant risk of missing trophies. However, defeating both of these bosses triggers changes in Ashina Castle, making some minibosses unavailable. These minibosses are essential for obtaining Prayer Beads, which directly enhance your Vitality and Posture, crucial stats for survival. Additionally, the “Loaded Spear” Prosthetic Tool becomes inaccessible shortly after this point. Ensure you collect these items before advancing.

Before confronting the Corrupted Monk and Guardian Ape, it’s wise to consult collectible guides to ensure you haven’t overlooked any Prayer Beads or Prosthetic Tools in earlier areas.

A fierce battle against the Guardian Ape, a mandatory boss encounter in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Crucial Decision Point: After defeating both the Corrupted Monk and Guardian Ape, your next destination is Ashina Castle for your second visit. Upon arrival, you’ll notice idols are locked, indicating significant story progression. Meeting Owl atop Ashina Castle’s tower initiates a critical dialogue choice that determines your ending and impacts trophy availability.

Ending Branch: To ensure access to the majority of trophies in your initial playthrough, choose the second dialogue option when speaking to Owl: “Break the Iron Code. Stay Loyal to Kuro.” This path is necessary for the “Purification” and “Return” endings, which are tied to specific trophies. At this juncture, familiarize yourself with the Sekiro Endings Guide to understand the steps required for each ending and plan your playthrough accordingly.

Step 2: Prepare for Endings – Sword Saint Isshin & Save Backup

Having secured the “Everblossom” and “Frozen Dragon’s Tears” items—essential for specific endings—continue playing through Sekiro until you defeat the final boss of the standard endings, “Sword Saint Isshin”. Crucially, do not interact with Kuro immediately after this boss fight. This is the moment to create a save backup, allowing you to efficiently unlock multiple endings in a single playthrough.

Save Backup Guide:

  • PlayStation 4 Save Backup: Navigate to PS4 Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Drive or Upload to Online Storage (PS Plus). For multiple backups, copy the “PS4” folder from your USB drive to your computer. Disable auto-upload for Sekiro in PS+ settings to prevent save overwrites.
  • Xbox One Save Backup: Exit Sekiro (pausing overwrites cloud saves!). Immediately after defeating Sword Saint Isshin, press the Xbox Home button > navigate to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice > press the Options button > Manage Game & add-ons > Saved data > Select your Gamertag > Delete saved data > Delete from console. Repeat deletion until the save disappears. Restart Sekiro; it will sync your cloud save (the backup!). Test this process on a dummy account first if unsure.

The climactic battle against Sword Saint Isshin, the final boss for most Sekiro endings.

Ending Trophy Farming: With your save backed up, interact with Kuro and select each of the three ending options one by one to unlock the corresponding trophies (“Immortal Severance”, “Purification”, “Dragon’s Homecoming”). After each ending and trophy unlock, restore your save backup (copy from USB/PS+ back to PS4/Xbox).

Pre-NG+ Checklist: After obtaining all three ending trophies via save manipulation, decline the prompt to start New Game+ immediately. Select “No” to remain in the free-roam post-story world. Before proceeding to NG+, ensure you have:

  • Defeated all Mini-Bosses: Refer to the Sekiro Boss Locations Guide to confirm.
  • Collected 6 Lapis Lazuli: See the Sekiro Lapis Lazuli Locations Guide for all locations.

Once confirmed, approach the idol at the Dilapidated Temple and select “Begin New Game 2” to start New Game+. NG+ is necessary to access the “Shura” ending and acquire the “Man Without Equal” trophy, which requires defeating all bosses, including those exclusive to different endings.

Step 3: New Game+ – Shura Ending Path to Owl

Play through New Game+ until you again reach Owl at Ashina Castle. This marks the next save backup point. Repeat the save backup process from Step 2. This time, to unlock the “Shura” ending, choose the first dialogue option when speaking to Owl: “Obey the Iron Code, Forsake Kuro.”

The pivotal choice against Owl in Ashina Castle determines the path to the Shura ending.

Shura Ending & Boss Trophies: Choosing this path leads to the “Shura” ending and unlocks the “Shura” ending trophy, as well as the “Man Without Equal” trophy for defeating all bosses (including the Shura-exclusive bosses). Immediately after unlocking these trophies, reload your save backup from before the Owl decision.

Step 4: Post-Shura Save Reload – Lapis Lazuli Cleanup

Reloading your save from before the Owl encounter allows you to continue on the path that leads to Fountainhead Palace (which is inaccessible if you choose the Shura ending). Your primary objective now is to acquire the remaining Lapis Lazuli for maximum Prosthetic Tool upgrades. The Fountainhead Palace path offers easier access to 4 more Lapis Lazuli (you can skip the optional Demon of Hatred boss in this playthrough to save time if desired). Consult the Sekiro Lapis Lazuli Locations Guide to efficiently collect these final upgrade materials.

Step 5: Final Cleanup – Skills & Platinum

At this stage, you should have most trophies unlocked. The remaining tasks typically involve grinding for skill points to acquire all skills and unlock the “Height of Technique” trophy, ultimately leading to the Platinum.

Skill Point Farming: The late-game areas, particularly Fountainhead Palace, offer the highest XP yield per enemy. Find a comfortable farming spot and defeat enemies repeatedly to accumulate skill points.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Trophy Guide

Icon Trophy Name Description
Sekiro All trophies have been unlocked.
Man Without Equal Defeated all bosses *Missable & Cannot be obtained in 1 Playthrough due to different bosses being tied to different Endings*» Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Boss Guide (All Boss Locations & Walkthroughs)
Ashina Traveler Traveled to all areas of the game *Missable if you choose Shura Ending* There are the following areas in the game: Ashina Outskirts, Hirata Estate, Ashina Castle, Ashina Depths, Sunken Valley, Senpou Temple, Fountainhead Palace. You just need to have visited each of them once for this trophy. You do not need to find all idols (fast travel points) in them, just the general main area needs to be visited. The last area “Fountainhead Palace” is missable. After defeating the Corrupted Monk Boss in Ashina Depths & the Guardian Boss in Sunken Valley, you must return to the Tower Roof of Ashina Castle, where the Genichiro Ashina boss fight took place. This is the normal story path so far and unmissable. Once you’re there, you must speak to Owl on the Tower Roof and there are 2 dialogue options that determine the game ending. The 1st option would have you betray Kuro and thus would end the game right then and there (an early ending). You’d never even reach Fountainhead Palace and miss out on this. Instead, when talking to Owl pick the 2nd Dialogue Option: “Break the Iron Code, Stay Loyal to Kuro”. Then you will automatically reach the final area Fountainhead Palace as part of the remaining story. In other words: if you go for this ending you’ll get this trophy automatically in the process. If you need help at any point or are unsure where to go, click the linked area names above for detailed walkthroughs of each area and how to get there.

Master of the Arts Grasped the inner mysteries of any combat style
For this trophy you must buy the last skill in any skill branch. The easiest way is to do this in the Ashina Arts skillset. It only has 6 skills that are needed for this. You don’t have to buy all skills, only the ones that lead up to the last skill on the right side of the skillset. You can farm XP by killing the same enemies over and over again. The further you get into the game the more XP you will earn per enemy. Tip: You can manually back up your save game on a USB device or PS+ Cloud then copy it back to have your skill points back. First farm enough skill points. Then go to PS4 Settings > Application Saved Data Management to back up the save. Buy the skills to pop the trophy, exit game and copy back your previous save. Then you have the skill points back. With this you can also test what skills and combat arts you like the most. You’ll need all skills for the trophy “Height of Technique” anyway so this trophy will come along the way.
Lazuline Upgrade Used Lapis Lazuli to upgrade any tool to its limit » Sekiro Shadows Die Twice All Lapis Lazuli Locations
Revered Blade Received the “Kusabimaru” from Kuro
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. This will be the very first trophy you earn. It unlocks during the prologue when you get your first weapon.
Shinobi Prosthetic Acquired the Shinobi Prosthetic
Automatic story-related trophy, cannot be missed. This will be the second trophy you earn. It unlocks after the prologue.
Memorial Mob Encountered the Memorial Mob
This can be done right after the prologue when you reach the region Ashina Outskirts. After the idol figure checkpoint called “Outskirts Wall – Gate Path”, get past the samurai miniboss “General Naomori Kawarada”. Then follow the path down the left. There’s a big mountain on the left side of the area. With your grapple tool you can jump from tree branch to tree branch until you reach the top. On top of that mountain is a tent with a merchant inside. This is quite hidden as you’d never have reason to go there normally. It’s just before a guy shoots at you with a cannon from a wall.
Resurrection Returned from the dead using “Resurrection” for the first time
After dying you can press to resurrect, which unlocks this trophy. This ability is unlocked after the prologue. It instantly revives you at the spot of death. You can recharge your resurrections by visiting a checkpoint or killing enemies.
