Frequently Asked Questions About Your New TV Guide

Why is Service Electric updating the channel guide?

The technology behind the current channel guide on your converter box is no longer supported by the manufacturer. To ensure you have access to the latest features and a reliable service, Service Electric Cablevision (SECV) is upgrading to the newest version of the channel guide. This update includes a redesigned user interface and advanced functionalities like an improved TV listings grid and an HD auto-tune feature.

When will my channel guide be upgraded to the new version?

The upgrade is scheduled to roll out to all boxes between October and November. Unfortunately, we cannot provide specific upgrade dates for individual boxes. The new channel guide will automatically appear when you turn on your TV after the upgrade is complete.

Will the new channel guide affect my service rates?

No, there are no additional charges associated with the channel guide upgrade. This is part of Service Electric’s commitment to providing you with the best possible viewing experience.

Will I lose my DVR recordings after the upgrade?

No, rest assured that all your DVR recordings will be preserved during the channel guide upgrade process. You won’t lose any of your saved content.

Why did the Caller ID display on TV change?

The new guide version displays Caller ID information differently from the previous one. While it continues to show the name and number of incoming callers on your TV screen, the call history log feature is no longer available in this updated version.

Can I customize the color scheme of the new guide?

Yes, you have the option to personalize the guide’s appearance. You can change the theme and colors by using your remote to navigate to Menu/Home/Setup/Guide Colors Setup and choose from four available themes.

How many channels are displayed at once in the new guide?

The new widescreen design allows for a broader view, now presenting six channels on screen at a time, compared to the four channels shown in the previous version.

Is it possible to disable the HD auto-tune feature?

Yes, if you prefer, you can disable the auto-tune feature. To do this, use your remote and go to Setup/Guide Setup/Tune for HDTV and toggle the setting to “No”.

Can I increase the font size in the new guide?

Yes, if you need a larger font size, you can adjust it through your remote control. Navigate to Menu/Home/Setup/Guide Setup/TV Type: SD TV (Tube) to enlarge the font.

On Screen Program Guide: i-Guide Features

i-Guide is designed as your primary tool for quickly locating and enjoying your favorite TV shows. Your remote control unlocks all the functionalities of i-Guide, including Listings By Time, DVR, Search, Parental Controls, and much more.

What’s On – Viewing TV Listings by Time or Channel

  • Simply press the GUIDE button on your remote to immediately view the program grid for the current time.
  • Press GUIDE again to switch to Listings By Channel.
  • Use the arrow keys on your remote to navigate through the listings and highlight a program. Instant program information will appear in the upper left corner of the screen.
  • The listings are conveniently color coded by program type for easy identification:
    • Purple: Movies
    • Green: Sports
    • Light Blue: Kids
  • For more details about a highlighted program, press the INFO button on your remote.
  • To tune to the selected channel or schedule a recording for a future show, press OK/SELECT.

i-Guide allows you to easily designate favorite channels and even create up to five custom Favorites lists for different viewers or preferences.

  • To mark the channel you are currently watching as a Favorite, simply press the INFO button on your remote, select the heart icon, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • If you haven’t set up a Favorites List yet, the system will prompt you to name your list and manage your favorite channels.

i-Guide equips you with robust tools to establish Parental Controls tailored to your family’s viewing standards.

  • Highlight the Lock icon, accessible from the Quick Menu or any Program Info screen.
  • Enter your unique 4-digit PIN. You can then restrict programs based on:
    • TV or movie ratings
    • TV content ratings
    • Specific channels
    • Time of day
    • You also have the option to hide Adult-rated titles completely.

i-Guide simplifies the process of finding your favorite shows quickly. You can search for a specific show title, browse by category, or even get a list of HD channels available. i-Guide is designed to help you pinpoint exactly what you’re in the mood to watch.

General Search – Multiple Ways to Find Programs

Access the Search Menu from either the Quick Menu or the Main Menu. From here, you can search by categories such as Movies, Sports, or Kids, or filter listings to show only HD or Pay-Per-View (PPV) options. The Title Search feature allows you to use a virtual keyboard to enter and search for a specific show title. For future convenience, you can even save your search criteria.

Search Results – Saving Your Searches for Later

You can save your Title Search queries for quick reuse at any time. From the Title Search results screen, simply highlight Save Search. To access your saved searches, go to the Search Menu and select Saved Searches to rerun the search with fresh results.

Control Live TV – Pause, Rewind, and More

Utilize the Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, Instant Replay, or Play buttons on your remote to manage live TV playback.

  • Press LIVE TV to instantly return to the currently broadcast program.
  • To seamlessly watch two shows at once without missing anything, press the SWAP button on your remote. This feature allows you to switch between two programs while automatically recording live TV on both channels (requires a dual-tuner DVR).

Create Your Video Library – Recording Options

i-Guide offers multiple easy ways to record your favorite programs, so you can watch them whenever it suits you.

  • One-Touch Recording: While watching a program, just press the Record button on your remote to start recording immediately.
  • Record from Listings By Time Grid: You can also schedule recordings directly from the Listings By Time grid for both currently airing and upcoming programs.
  • A red dot icon will appear in the grid to visually indicate that a recording is scheduled for that program.

Search and Record – Never Miss Your Favorite Shows

Looking for cooking shows or want to record all movies starring a particular actor? i-Guide’s expanded Search options make it easy to find and record content by Title, Keyword, or even Actor/Director.

Search by Keyword – Broaden Your Search

Search results will display a list of programs airing over the next two weeks that match your search criteria. For example, searching for the Keyword ‘dogs’ will show programs with ‘dogs’ in their title or program description.

Search by Actor/Director – Target Your Favorite Personalities

Choose the Actor/Director search option and use the virtual keyboard to type in the name of your favorite celebrity. Highlight your choice from the list and press OK/Select to view a list of shows they are involved in.

Series Recording – Automate Episode Captures

It’s simple to set up your DVR to record every episode of your favorite series automatically.

  • From the Program Info screen of an episode, press the Record icon and follow the on-screen prompts to set up series recording.
  • Customize series recording options, such as which types of episodes to record (first run, reruns, or all), how long to keep recordings, and more.
  • To manage or modify your series recordings, select Series Recordings from the DVR Menu.

View My Recordings – Access Your Video Library

Once you’ve built up your video library, you can easily access a list of all recorded programs in My Recordings, located within the DVR Menu.

  • Select DVR from the Quick Menu to directly access My Recordings.
  • Use the left/right arrow keys on your remote to sort your recordings by date, channel, or title. Highlight the program you wish to watch and press OK/Select to view Program Info. Then, press OK/Select again to begin playback.
  • Series recordings are organized into DVR Folders. Highlight the folder you want to open and press OK/Select to see a list of individual episodes within that series.

DVR Recordings – Organized Folders for Series

DVR Folders provide an organized way to navigate through your recordings. Multiple recordings of the same show title are grouped into DVR Folders automatically. These folders are created when you record multiple episodes of a TV series or have set up an Auto-Recording. To watch, simply highlight the folder, press OK/Select to open it, and then scroll through the episodes to select the one you want to watch. Press OK/Select again to start playback.

From the DVR Menu, select DVR Cleanup to quickly delete multiple recordings at once using simple checkboxes. Just highlight the shows you want to erase and select ‘Delete’ to free up storage space.
