The Ultimate Classic WoW Tailoring Leveling Guide (1-300)

This Classic WoW Tailoring leveling guide is designed to show you the quickest and most straightforward method to increase your Tailoring skill from 1 to 300.

Tailoring primarily utilizes cloths as its core components. The advantage of Tailoring is that you don’t need a gathering profession to acquire these cloths, making it compatible with any gathering profession. A popular combination is Enchanting. You can craft various cloth items, disenchant them, and then utilize the resulting dust and essences to level up your Enchanting skill. If you’re interested in leveling Enchanting, you can check out my Classic WoW Enchanting leveling guide.

If you are still in the process of leveling your character or starting a new alt, I highly recommend Zygor’s 1-60 Leveling Guide. It’s a fantastic tool to accelerate your journey to level 60.

Journeyman Tailoring: Expanding Your Skills

To progress beyond Tailoring skill level 75, you need to learn Journeyman Tailoring. This requires character level 10 and a visit to an Expert Tailor. Not all Tailoring trainers can teach Journeyman Tailoring; you must seek out a designated Expert Tailor.

You can learn Journeyman Tailoring from these NPCs:

Horde trainers:

Alliance trainers:

75 – 125: Working with Linen and Fine Thread

  • 100 – 110 Tailoring Skill: Craft around 13x Simple Kilt.
    • Materials: 52 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 13 Fine Thread

Continue your leveling journey by crafting Simple Kilts. These recipes utilize Linen Cloth along with Fine Thread, helping you push past the initial skill levels and towards Expert Tailoring.

Expert Tailoring: Silk and Dyes Enter the Mix

To advance beyond Tailoring skill 150, you must learn Expert Tailoring, requiring character level 20. You will need to find an Artisan Tailor to teach you this new skill tier.

Horde players can find Josef Gregorian in Undercity, and Alliance players can learn from Georgio Bolero in Stormwind City to become Expert Tailors.

125 – 220: Silk Creations and Color

  • 145 – 160 Tailoring Skill: Create approximately 18x Azure Silk Hood.

    • Materials: 36 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 36 Blue Dye, 18 Fine Thread
  • 170 – 175 Tailoring Skill: Craft around 5x Formal White Shirt.

Artisan Tailoring: Mageweave and Beyond

To proceed past Tailoring skill 225, you will need to learn Artisan Tailoring, which requires character level 35. You’ll need to seek out a Master Tailor to teach you this advanced level of the profession.

Horde players can find Daryl Stack in Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills. He is located in the building directly east of the Inn.

Alliance players should visit Timothy Worthington in Theramore Isle in Dustwallow Marsh. He is on the top floor of the first small building to your left after disembarking from the boat.

220 – 260: Mastering Mageweave

  • 230 – 250 Tailoring Skill: Craft approximately 23x Black Mageweave Headband.
    • Materials: 69 Bolt of Mageweave, 46 Heavy Silken Thread

The Artisan Tailoring phase focuses on Mageweave Cloth. Crafting Black Mageweave Headbands is an efficient way to gain skill levels in this range.

260 – 280: Introducing Runecloth

  • 260 – 280 Tailoring Skill: Create around 25x Runecloth Belt.
    • Materials: 75 Bolt of Runecloth, 25 Rune Thread

At this stage, Runecloth becomes your primary material. Crafting Runecloth Belts will help you advance your skill towards the higher levels.

Alternatively, if you prefer selling your creations, you can start making Runecloth Bags instead of Runecloth Belts. Bags are more costly to produce but can often be sold at the Auction House for a profit, potentially recovering your investment. If you prefer a simpler approach without sales, stick to crafting belts.

280 – 290: Runecloth Bags for the Final Stretch

  • 280 – 290 Tailoring Skill: Craft approximately 18x Runecloth Bag.
    • Materials: 90 Bolt of Runecloth, 36 Rugged Leather, 18 Rune Thread

To continue with Runecloth Bags, you will need to acquire the Pattern: Runecloth Bag. This pattern is sold by Qia in Everlook, Winterspring. She is located inside the bank building, in the left corner as you enter.

This recipe has a limited supply. If it has been purchased recently, you may need to wait for it to respawn. The restock time can vary from 5 to 90 minutes. If many players are waiting, it’s often more efficient to buy the pattern from the Auction House.

290 – 300: Runecloth Gloves to Cap it Off

  • 290 – 300 Tailoring Skill: Create around 18x Runecloth Gloves.
    • Materials: 72 Bolt of Runecloth, 72 Rugged Leather, 18 Rune Thread

The Runecloth Gloves recipe will turn yellow at skill level 290, so gather enough materials for approximately 18 crafts to reach 300.

The Pattern: Runecloth Gloves is also sold by Qia in Winterspring and is also a limited supply item, similar to the Runecloth Bag pattern.
