However, we find April/May and September/October particularly appealing, offering fewer crowds, pleasant weather, and often more budget-friendly travel deals during these shoulder seasons.

While winter months bring slightly cooler temperatures and increased rainfall, staying in Honolulu or Leeward Oahu maximizes your chances of sunny skies and warm temperatures perfect for t-shirts and shorts. Oahu is truly a year-round destination. While it may not claim the title of best Hawaiian Island to visit in winter, it’s likely warmer than your hometown!
Ocean temperatures remain consistently inviting, ranging from 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Swim comfortably in January or June!
Beyond temperature, consider wave conditions. Summer typically offers calm waters across much of the island, barring passing storms or south swells.
Winter north swells can bring choppier waters and larger waves to the north, west, and east shores, while Honolulu and Waikiki generally remain calmer.
