Embarking on your Animal Crossing: New Horizons adventure on the Nintendo Switch starts you off with 20 inventory slots. While this is an improvement compared to New Leaf, it can quickly feel limited, especially when gathering resources like Stone, Wood, and Iron Nuggets for crafting essential tools and furniture.
If you plan on exploring, crafting, and collecting, you’ll soon find your pockets overflowing with fish, fruit, and bugs. Fortunately, Animal Crossing: New Horizons offers ways to significantly expand your inventory. Here’s your guide to mastering pocket organization.
Getting the Pocket Organization Guide: Upgrade #1
The first inventory upgrade is easily obtainable. Go to the Resident Services tent and interact with the Automatic Bells Dispenser (ABD), the machine located in the corner. Select the option to redeem Nook Miles. You’ll find the Pocket Organization Guide available for purchase at 5,000 Nook Miles. Although it may seem expensive, this upgrade is a worthwhile investment. Buying it immediately grants you 10 additional inventory slots, bringing your total to 30.
Acquiring the Ultimate Pocket Stuffing Guide: Upgrade #2
Even with 30 inventory slots, you might soon discover you need more space. The good news is you can further upgrade your inventory to hold even more items. However, unlocking the second upgrade takes a little more time.
As you progress in the game, you’ll be tasked with placing three housing plots for new villagers (bringing your total villager count to five). On the day your third new villager moves in, Tom Nook will announce an upgrade to the Resident Services tent, transforming it into a permanent building.
Once the construction is complete, the new Resident Services building will open its doors. Head to the ABD and select “Redeem Nook Miles.” Among the new upgrades, you’ll find the Ultimate Pocket Stuffing Guide, priced at 8,000 Nook Miles. Purchasing this guide gives you another 10 inventory slots, increasing your total to 40.

Currently, there are no known methods to increase your inventory space beyond 40 slots in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, if more upgrades are discovered, this guide will be updated to keep you organized and prepared for anything the island throws your way.
