Leveling Alchemy in Classic WoW can be a rewarding journey, allowing you to craft powerful potions and elixirs. This guide will show you the fastest and most cost-effective way to level your Classic Alchemy skill from 1 to 300.
Alchemy pairs exceptionally well with Herbalism. By combining these two professions, you can significantly reduce your gold expenditure, as you’ll be able to gather most of the necessary herbs yourself. If you’re also looking to level Herbalism, check out our Classic Herbalism leveling guide 1-300.
If you’re still in the process of leveling your character or starting a new alt, consider using Zygor’s 1-60 Leveling Guide. It’s designed to accelerate your journey to level 60.
Approximate Materials Required:
Keep in mind that many recipes in this guide are yellow, meaning skill points aren’t guaranteed with each craft. While we’ve included 10-20 extra herbs for most recipes, some players with less favorable luck might need a few more to reach the target skill levels.
Playing Cataclysm Classic?
If you are playing Cataclysm Classic, please use our Cataclysm Alchemy Leveling Guide instead. There are important changes to trainers and recipes in Cataclysm, making the Cataclysm guide essential for that expansion.
Classic Alchemy Trainers
You can learn Classic Alchemy from any of the trainers listed below. Click on the links provided to see their precise locations. Alternatively, you can ask any guard in a major city for the Alchemy trainer’s location, and it will be marked on your map.

It’s wise to keep these Minor Healing Potions as you will need them later in your leveling process.
Learn Journeyman Alchemy
To progress your Alchemy skill beyond 75, you must train Journeyman Alchemy. (Requires character level 10). Not all Alchemy trainers offer this level of training; you’ll need to seek out an Expert Alchemist.

Horde players can find Doctor Herbert Halsey in Undercity to learn Expert Alchemy. Alliance players can learn from Ainethil in Darnassus.
Recipe to Buy
Before leaving Darnassus or Undercity, purchase the Recipe: Superior Mana Potion. You will need this recipe at Alchemy level 265, so buying it now will save you time later.

Alchemy Level 155 – 185
Craft about 35 x Greater Healing Potion using:
- 35 Liferoot
- 35 Kingsblood
