Leveling Tailoring in Classic WoW is a great profession choice, and this guide will show you the quickest and easiest path to max out your skill from 1 to 300.
Tailoring primarily uses cloth, which is conveniently dropped by humanoid enemies throughout the game. This means you don’t necessarily need a gathering profession to supply your Tailoring needs, allowing you to pair it with any profession you like. A popular combination is Enchanting. By crafting various cloth items, you can disenchant them and use the resulting dust and essences to level your Enchanting skill. If you’re interested in leveling Enchanting as well, be sure to check out our Classic WoW Enchanting leveling guide.
If you’re still in the process of leveling your character or starting a new alt, consider using a leveling guide to speed up the process. Zygor’s 1-60 Leveling Guide is a highly recommended option to help you reach level 60 faster.

Playing Cataclysm Classic?
Keep in mind that Cataclysm Classic has brought significant changes to trainers and recipes. If you are playing Cataclysm Classic, it’s essential to use our dedicated Cataclysm Tailoring leveling guide instead of this Classic WoW guide.
Finding Classic Tailoring Trainers
To begin your Tailoring journey, you’ll need to find a Tailoring trainer. You can learn Apprentice Tailoring at level 5 from trainers located in major cities. If you’re unsure where to find them, simply ask any guard in a city, and they will mark the Tailoring trainer’s location on your map with a red flag.
Horde Tailoring Trainers:
- Hornsby in Undercity
- Killian Sanatha in Silvermoon City
- Miao’zan in Thunder Bluff
- Nasmara Moonsong in Darnassus (While Darnassus is Alliance, some trainers are accessible)
- Tepa in Orgrimmar
Alliance Tailoring Trainers:
- Elaine Trias in Stormwind City
- ন্দ্রাজাল ( রক্ষা করুন) বিক্রি করুন in Exodar (Trainer name might appear as unreadable characters, but it’s located in Exodar)
- বিক্রি করুন in Darnassus (Trainer name might appear as unreadable characters, but it’s located in Darnassus)
- বিক্রি করুন in Ironforge (Trainer name might appear as unreadable characters, but it’s located in Ironforge)
- বিক্রি করুন in Stormwind City (Trainer name might appear as unreadable characters, another trainer in Stormwind)

- Approximate Quantity: 15-20 Shirts
Formal White Shirts use Bleach, which can be bought from General Goods vendors. These shirts are also used in some quests, so they might sell reasonably well.

185 – 210: Craft Crimson Silk Vest
- Materials: 100 x Bolt of Silk Cloth, 50 x Fine Thread, 50 x Red Dye

Heavy Silken Thread is crafted by Tailors, so you may need to purchase it or craft it yourself if you are also leveling Tailoring on another character.
Artisan Tailoring (Requires Skill 200, Character Level 35)
To continue to the final stretch of Tailoring, you must train Artisan Tailoring. Artisan Tailors are located in more remote areas.
Artisan Tailoring Trainers:
- Horde: Daryl Stack in Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills (Building east of the Inn)

-
280 – 290: Craft Runecloth Bag (If not already chosen)
- Materials: 90 x Bolt of Runecloth, 36 x Rugged Leather, 18 x Rune Thread

To craft Runecloth Bags, you’ll need the Pattern: Runecloth Bag recipe. This pattern is sold by Qia in Everlook, Winterspring. She is located inside the bank building, in the left corner upon entering. It’s a limited supply item, so you may need to wait for it to respawn or purchase it from the Auction House.
-
290 – 300: Craft Runecloth Gloves
- Materials: 72 x Bolt of Runecloth, 72 x Rugged Leather, 18 x Rune Thread
- Approximate Quantity: 18 Gloves
