Leveling Tailoring in Classic WoW is a straightforward process, primarily utilizing cloth materials. The beauty of Tailoring is that it doesn’t require a gathering profession, making it a versatile choice for any character. A popular combination is Tailoring and Enchanting. You can craft various cloth items, disenchant them, and use the resulting dust and essences to level your Enchanting skill. Finding Your Tailoring Trainer in Classic WoW
To begin your Tailoring journey, you’ll need to find a Tailoring trainer. You can learn Apprentice Tailoring once you reach level 5. Trainers are located in major cities for both the Horde and Alliance factions.
If you’re unsure where to find them, simply ask a guard in any city. They can direct you to the nearest Tailoring trainer, marked on your map with a red flag.
Horde Tailoring Trainers:
- Grarnik in Orgrimmar
- Benjamin Clegg in Undercity
- Pabla Steelmane in Thunder Bluff
Alliance Tailoring Trainers:
- Timothy Lee in Stormwind City
- Brock Stonebrow in Ironforge
- Nasmara Moonwhisper in Darnassus
Leveling Your Classic Tailoring Skill: Step-by-Step
Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of leveling your Tailoring profession. Follow these steps to efficiently reach skill level 300.
Apprentice Tailoring (Skill Level 1 – 75)
-
1 – 75: Craft approximately 40-70 Linen Belt.
- Materials: 40-70 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 40-70 Coarse Thread
Craft Linen Belts until you reach skill level 75. You might need to craft slightly more or less depending on how often the recipe yields skill-ups. Linen Cloth is easily obtainable from low-level humanoids or by purchasing it from the Auction House.

Journeyman Tailoring (Requires Skill Level 50, Level 10)
To progress past skill level 75, you need to train Journeyman Tailoring. Return to a Tailoring trainer in a major city. Any Tailoring trainer can teach you Journeyman Tailoring.
Horde Journeyman Tailoring Trainers:
- Grarnik in Orgrimmar
- Benjamin Clegg in Undercity
Alliance Journeyman Tailoring Trainers:
- Timothy Lee in Stormwind City
- Brock Stonebrow in Ironforge
Journeyman Tailoring Leveling (Skill Level 75 – 150)
-
75 – 125: Craft approximately 100-110 Simple Kilt.
- Materials: 400-440 Bolt of Linen Cloth, 100-110 Fine Thread
Continue crafting Simple Kilts until you reach skill level 125. While this recipe uses Linen Cloth again, it’s still the most efficient way to level up in this range.

Expert Tailoring (Requires Skill Level 125, Level 20)
To continue your Tailoring journey beyond skill level 150, you’ll need to become an Expert Tailor. Seek out Expert Tailoring trainers in specific locations.
Expert Tailoring Trainers:
- Horde: Josef Gregorian in Undercity.
- Alliance: Georgio Bolero in Stormwind City.
Expert Tailoring Leveling (Skill Level 150 – 225)
- 125 – 145: Continue crafting Simple Kilt if it’s still giving you skill points. If not, move to the next step.
- 145 – 160: Craft approximately 18 Azure Silk Hood.
- Materials: 36 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 36 Blue Dye, 18 Fine Thread
- 160 – 170: You might gain a few more levels crafting Azure Silk Hoods, or consider making Formal White Shirt to prepare for the next stage.
- 170 – 175: Craft approximately 5 Formal White Shirt.
- Materials: 15 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 10 Bleach, 5 Fine Thread
- 175 – 185: Consider crafting more Formal White Shirts or save materials for Crimson Silk Vest.
- 185 – 205: Craft approximately 20 Crimson Silk Vest.
- Materials: 80 Bolt of Silk Cloth, 40 Fine Thread, 40 Red Dye
- 205 – 215: Continue crafting Crimson Silk Vests or prepare for Orange Mageweave Shirt.

Artisan Tailoring (Requires Skill Level 200, Level 35)
To break past skill level 225, you need to become an Artisan Tailor. Artisan Tailoring trainers are found in specific, slightly more remote locations.
Artisan Tailoring Trainers:
- Horde: Daryl Stack in Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills. He’s in the building east of the inn.
- Alliance: Timothy Worthington in Theramore Isle, Dustwallow Marsh. He’s on the top floor of the first building on the left after disembarking the boat.
Artisan Tailoring Leveling (Skill Level 225 – 300)
-
220 – 230: You might still gain levels from Orange Mageweave Shirts, or move directly to Black Mageweave Headband.
-
230 – 250: Craft approximately 23 Black Mageweave Headband.
- Materials: 69 Bolt of Mageweave, 46 Heavy Silken Thread
-
250 – 260: Continue crafting Black Mageweave Headbands or prepare for Runecloth Belt.
-
260 – 280: Craft approximately 25 Runecloth Belt.
- Materials: 75 Bolt of Runecloth, 25 Rune Thread
Alternatively, at this stage, you can switch to crafting Runecloth Bag if you plan to sell them on the Auction House. Bags are more profitable but require more materials and sales effort. If you prefer a simpler approach, stick with Runecloth Belts.
-
280 – 290: Craft approximately 18 Runecloth Bag.
- Materials: 90 Bolt of Runecloth, 36 Rugged Leather, 18 Rune Thread
To craft Runecloth Bags, you’ll need to learn the recipe Pattern: Runecloth Bag. This pattern is sold by Qia in Everlook, Winterspring. She is located inside the bank building, in the left corner as you enter.
Be aware that this recipe is limited supply. If it’s sold out, you’ll need to wait for it to respawn, which can take anywhere from 5 to 90 minutes. Consider buying it from the Auction House if the NPC is heavily camped.
-
290 – 300: Craft approximately 18 Runecloth Gloves.
- Materials: 72 Bolt of Runecloth, 72 Rugged Leather, 18 Rune Thread
The Runecloth Gloves recipe will turn yellow at skill level 290, but crafting around 18 should be sufficient to reach 300.
You’ll also need to purchase the Pattern: Runecloth Gloves from Qia in Winterspring. Like the Runecloth Bag pattern, this is also a limited supply item.
