1. Introduction to War Within Engineering Leveling

Engineering in The War Within expansion offers exciting new recipes and gadgets to create. This Wowhead Engineering Guide will walk you through the fastest and easiest way to level your Engineering skill from 1 to 100. Leveling Engineering often goes hand-in-hand with Mining, as you’ll need a lot of raw materials. If you’re also leveling Mining, check out our Mining leveling guide for efficient resource gathering strategies.

1.1 Why Level Engineering?

Engineering is a versatile profession that allows you to craft a variety of useful items, from gadgets and gear to explosives and toys. Here are a few reasons why you might want to level Engineering:

  • Useful Gadgets: Engineers can craft items like Goblin Gliders, Wormhole Generators, and Jeeves, which can greatly improve your quality of life.
  • Powerful Gear: Some of the best gear in the game is crafted by Engineers, including powerful helmets with unique abilities.
  • Gold Making: Many Engineering items are in high demand on the Auction House, allowing you to make a significant amount of gold.
  • Fun and Unique: Engineering is a fun and unique profession that offers a lot of creative possibilities.

1.2 Combining Engineering with Mining

Engineering is best combined with Mining. This combination allows you to gather the raw materials you need to level Engineering yourself, saving you a lot of gold. Mining provides the ores and stones needed for many Engineering recipes. It’s highly recommended to level Mining and Engineering together because you will need a lot of gold if you want to buy everything from the Auction House.

2. Finding Engineering Trainers in The War Within

To begin your journey as an Engineer, you’ll need to find an Engineering trainer. These trainers can teach you new skills and recipes as you level up. You can learn the War Within Engineering skill from the Engineering trainer in Dornogal.

Alt Text: Map of Dornogal showing the location of the Engineering trainer, emphasizing accessibility for new players and their importance in profession development.

3. Essential Shopping List for Leveling

Before you start leveling, it’s important to gather the necessary materials. The shopping list below includes the raw materials you’ll need to reach skill level 40. The part from 40-100 is not included here because there are too many variables, since discovering recipes play a huge role. The quality of the materials doesn’t matter for leveling. Buy the cheapest.

3.1 Material Overview

Here’s a breakdown of the key materials you’ll need:

  • Pile of Rusted Scrap
  • Bismuth
  • Aqirite
  • Crystalline Powder
  • Frayed Wiring
  • Junk Bucket

3.2 Tips for Acquiring Materials

  • Auction House: The Auction House is a great place to buy materials, but prices can fluctuate. Keep an eye out for deals and buy in bulk when possible.
  • Gathering: Mining nodes and scavenging can provide you with many of the materials you need.
  • Trading: Trade with other players to get materials you need.

4. Detailed Leveling Guide: Khaz Algar Engineering (1-100)

This section provides a detailed, step-by-step guide to leveling your Engineering skill from 1 to 100 in Khaz Algar.

4.1 Skill Levels 1-15: Scour Through Scrap

Use Scour Through Scrap until you reach skill level 15. Keep approximately 30x Pile of Rusted Scrap.

Alt Text: Icon of Pile of Rusted Scrap, a key material for early Engineering levels, vital for discovering recipes and crafting essential components.

Pile of Rusted Scrap drops from mobs and different activities around Khaz Algar, so you should have enough from just leveling. It’s a key ingredient in almost all Engineering recipes and is also used for discovering new recipes. You’ll need a substantial amount to unlock every Engineering recipe.

4.1.1 Alternative if you don’t have Scrap

If you just picked up Engineering and have few or no Scraps, loot the Engineering treasure in Dornogal: Dornogal Spectacles. This will allow you to reach level 5 and learn Pilfer Through Parts.

After that, I recommend collecting every Engineering treasure to gather even more Scrap. Check out my separate guide on how to collect all treasures: All Profession Knowledge Treasures.

Collecting the Engineering treasures is highly recommended, but if you don’t want to do it right now, here’s what to do:

4.2 Skill Levels 15-20: Whimsical Wiring and Gyrating Gear

The Frayed Wiring and Junk Bucket are sold by the Engineering supply vendor near your trainer.

Craft the following:

Keep these, you will need them. You will need a lot more, but you should probably craft them later.

4.3 Skill Levels 20-25: Bismuth Fueled Samophlange and Safety Switch

Craft the following:

Equip the Bismuth Fueled Samophlange.

5. Understanding Engineering Specializations

When you reach skill level 25, you will unlock Engineering specializations. You’ll eventually be able to learn all three specializations, so there’s no need to worry about your initial choice. You’ll need 50 skill points to unlock the second specialization and 75 for the third. Check out our War Within Engineering Specialization Guide for example builds to help you get started.

TWW Engineering Specialization Guide and Builds

5.1 Choosing Your Specialization

Each specialization offers unique benefits and crafting options. Consider your playstyle and goals when choosing a specialization.

  • Gnomish Engineering: Focuses on gadgets and inventions, often with unpredictable results.
  • Goblin Engineering: Emphasizes explosives and powerful devices, often with a destructive edge.
  • Khaz’Algar Engineering: Focuses on crafting equipment and devices that enhance the quality of life and exploration.

6. Skill Levels 25-33: Crafting for Bonuses

Learn the remaining recipes from the trainer, then craft one item from each of the following to earn your first craft bonuses.

  • 1x 4UT0-41M3R – Requires: 10x Pile of Rusted Scrap, 6x Handful of Bismuth Bolts, 1x Whimsical Wiring, 1x Gyrating Gear, 1x Safety Switch
  • 1x Tracker’s Goggles – Requires: 5x Pile of Rusted Scrap, 4x Handful of Bismuth Bolts, 1x Whimsical Wiring, 1x Gyrating Gear
  • 1x Acolyte’s Goggles – Requires: 5x Pile of Rusted Scrap, 4x Handful of Bismuth Bolts, 1x Whimsical Wiring, 1x Gyrating Gear
  • 1x Spelunker’s Goggles – Requires: 5x Pile of Rusted Scrap, 4x Handful of Bismuth Bolts, 1x Whimsical Wiring, 1x Gyrating Gear
  • 1x Dredger’s Goggles – Requires: 5x Pile of Rusted Scrap, 4x Handful of Bismuth Bolts, 1x Whimsical Wiring, 1x Gyrating Gear

7. Skill Levels 33-40: More Bismuth Fueled Samophlange

If you’ve discovered any additional items through prototypes or other means, now’s the time to start crafting them to earn those first craft bonuses. Craft those instead of the four Engineering tool.

Craft the following:

8. Mastering Inventing and Prototypes

Majority of the Engineering recipes are not taught by your trainer but can be learned through the new discovery system. I’ll walk you through the process of discovering a new recipe.

8.1 The Discovery System

The discovery system allows you to learn new recipes by experimenting with different materials and combinations. This can be a fun and rewarding way to expand your crafting repertoire.

8.2 Alternative Method: Scour Through Scrap

Fortunately, you can also get Prototypes from Scour Through Scrap. On average, you will get a Prototype every 25 Scrap, so it basically costs the same as Inventing, but you won’t get skill points.

8.3 Scraps Needed to Discover Every Prototype

To discovery every Prototype, you will need 350x Pile of Rusted Scrap. To get this many scrap, you would need 1750x Handful of Serevite Bolts. (Pilfer Through Parts works on parts from Older expansions)

But, you can also just play the game normally, loot scrap from mobs, then do your daily Inventing.

8.4 Discovering More Engineering Recipes

Once you discover every Prototype, you will stop getting Unrecognizable Prototypes you will start getting Hastily Scrawled Notes instead.

You can turn 15x Hastily Scrawled Notes into Comprehensibly Organized Ideas.

Using the Comprehensibly Organized Ideas will present you with a window where you can choose between 3 Engineering recipes.

9. Skill Levels 40-100: The Final Stretch

There are two methods to get through this part of the leveling process. I’ll outline each one, and you can choose which approach works best for you.

9.1 Method 1: Inventing

Inventing gives skill points all the way up to 100, so you can reach max level by just doing your daily Invent and getting the first craft bonus from the recipes you discover. This approach would get you to 100 in about 15 days if you consistently craft items to get the first craft bonuses as well.

I suggest crafting the expensive toys after crafting everything else. Since they provide guaranteed skill points up to 90, it’s most efficient to save them for when you reach 80. The other recipes will be yellow at that point.

9.2 Method 2: Convincingly Realistic Jumper Cables

Convincingly Realistic Jumper Cables is the cheapest recipe you can get. So, if you want to reach 100 fast, use Scour Through Scrap until you get this recipe, then you can just craft it up to around 92.

This is just an estimate below; you may need to craft more depending on your starting point (assuming you begin at level 40).

Item Materials Required
70x Convincingly Realistic Jumper Cables 700x Pile of Rusted Scrap, 140x Handful of Bismuth Bolts, 140x Whimsical Wiring, 70x Gyrating Gear, 70x Safety Switch

You could make Convincingly Realistic Jumper Cables until around 95, but you will get skill points much less frequently. Inventing still gives guaranteed skill points, so I’d finish the last 8 points with Inventing.
