How To Start The Cooking Battles
To participate in cooking battles, you must first recruit Kurtz to your army and ensure the inn and restaurant are constructed in your castle town. Gathering the necessary funds and supplies is relatively straightforward, and you’ll likely have enough resources available when the construction opportunity arises.
Crucially, Kurtz and his restaurant become available only after you reach Euchrisse as part of the main storyline progression. Once you’ve arrived in Euchrisse and built the restaurant, a chef NPC will appear inside. Interacting with this NPC will initiate your first cooking battle and begin your journey through the Dark Dragon Syndicate culinary challenge.
Cooking Battles Explained
Basics
Cooking battles in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes are culinary duels where Kurtz faces a challenger, each preparing three dishes: an appetizer, a main dish, and a dessert. After the dishes are “prepared”, four judges, randomly selected from your recruited heroes, will evaluate and score the culinary creations.
While you don’t directly cook, as Nowa, you play a crucial role in supporting Kurtz. A minigame requires you to rapidly press the X button on PlayStation or A button on Xbox controllers to build up a heat gauge, known as “completeness” in the game. You have 50 seconds to maximize this gauge. The completeness level directly impacts the score:
- 0-50 percent: 0.5x score penalty.
- 50-80 percent: 0.7x score penalty.
- 80-100 percent: 1.0x, no penalty.
After your initial victory, your opponent reveals their affiliation with the Dark Dragon Syndicate, a shadowy organization controlling the food industry. This sets the stage for a series of increasingly challenging culinary confrontations.
Scoring
Each judge possesses unique preferences regarding cuisine and specific dishes, influencing their scores. Each dish is judged out of five points by each of the four judges. Another factor affecting scores is the judge’s mood, which varies from ‘good’ to ‘bad’, with ‘normal’ in between.
Judge mood is indicated by an emote above their head during introductions. A ‘normal’ mood, represented by a laughing emote, is most common at 55% probability and has no score impact. A ‘good’ mood, indicated by a music note (35% probability), positively boosts the score by 1.25x. Conversely, a ‘bad’ mood (15% probability), shown by a negative emote, negatively impacts the score by 0.75x.
Surprise Dishes

This scroll only becomes accessible after you have lost to Trey, preventing early acquisition. After obtaining the Scroll of Heaven, you can resume cooking battles and challenge Trey again in the fifteenth battle, finally defeating him.
