Navigating This FF10-2 Guide

This FF10-2 guide is structured for easy navigation and optimal use. For users who prefer a single-page view, simply scroll to the bottom of the page and select the “Printable View” option for a consolidated format. While pagination enhances readability and loading speed, the single-page view provides a comprehensive overview for quick searches using Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac).

This walkthrough is meticulously designed to guide you to 100% completion of Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster. Every detail, no matter how small, is included because even minor actions can impact your completion percentage. Achieving 100% unlocks a special ending, a reward for dedicated players who explore every nook and cranny of Spira. Be aware that certain actions or omissions can lead to missable content and prevent 100% completion. To ensure success, follow this guide closely from start to finish.

Important Note: This FF10-2 guide has been rigorously tested and confirmed by multiple users to achieve 100% completion. If your in-game progress percentage deviates from the checkpoints listed in this guide, it indicates a missed step or an action performed out of sequence. In such cases, retracing your steps using multiple saves is highly recommended. Due to the complexity of the game and the numerous user playthroughs, individual troubleshooting for discrepancies is not feasible. However, any confirmed errors or omissions within this guide are always welcome and will be addressed promptly.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid for 100% Completion:

  • Skipping Dialogue: Ensure you watch every conversation and scene fully. Skipping can prevent flags from triggering, affecting your completion rate.
  • Moogle Costume Conversation (Chapter 1): In Chapter 1 of this FF10-2 guide, speaking to the character in the Moogle costume in Luca is essential. Do not miss this interaction.
  • Awesome Sphere Choice (Chapter 2): In Chapter 2, giving the Awesome Sphere to the Youth League is crucial for 100% completion.

Strategic Gameplay Freedom:

Final Fantasy X-2, like its predecessor, offers strategic depth through Dresspheres and Creature Create. This FF10-2 guide aims to provide adaptable strategies rather than rigid, prescriptive builds. While suggesting optimal paths might diminish player exploration and enjoyment, this guide offers strategic frameworks applicable to various playstyles. Strategies are generally built around Yuna, Rikku, and Paine, the core party members, rather than relying heavily on Creature Create monsters, which are part of an extensive side quest. Alternative strategies and suggestions are always welcomed to enhance the guide’s versatility.

HD Remaster Enhancements:

The Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster introduces significant enhancements to the original PlayStation 2 titles. Beyond the obvious visual upgrades, these remasters are based on the International Editions, which include additional content and features not present in the initial releases. Specifically, Final Fantasy X HD incorporates content from the PAL and International versions of FFX, while Final Fantasy X-2 HD is based on Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission. This FF10-2 guide addresses these enhanced versions, ensuring accuracy and completeness for HD Remaster players.

The game opens with a captivating movie, setting the stage for Yuna’s return to the spotlight. You quickly gain control of Rikku and Paine in Luca, now transformed with machina two years after the events of Final Fantasy X. Prepare for your first battle!

This introductory fight serves as a refresher for the Active Time Battle (ATB) system, a departure from FFX’s turn-based Combat Turn Battle (CTB). Unlike CTB, the ATB system is dynamic, requiring quick decisions. Rikku excels in speed and thievery as a Thief, while Paine, the stoic warrior, is built for damage.

The mysterious “????”, impersonating Yuna, primarily plays a support role, casting Haste to increase agility and Regen for healing. “Ecstasy,” in theme with the concert setting, buffs the Goons, doubling their HP (still minimal at 58 HP), healing them, and granting Haste and Regen. Expect occasional Thunder spells for light lightning damage and Absorb to drain your HP and MP to heal herself.

The Goons are straightforward attackers.

Start by eliminating the Goons with a few attacks each. They pose minimal threat, with Thunders dealing only around 25 damage collectively. Then, focus your assault on “????”. This battle is designed to ease you back into the ATB system.

Following the battle and cutscene, you’ll find yourself at the Luca docks, a familiar location for Yuna-related incidents. Pursue Paine and engage the Syndicate goons blocking your path. Continue linearly, defeating enemies as you proceed. Eventually, you’ll encounter a Moogle-costumed figure. Speak with them to fully restore your HP and MP—essential for 100% completion, even if you’re at full health. Proceed to the next dock.

After a brief scene, prepare for another boss encounter.

Logos and Ormi are straightforward foes. Logos uses basic attacks, hitting twice, while Ormi employs attacks and “Pirouette Pitch,” a slightly stronger physical move. Expect around 10-20 damage per hit from their attacks.

Start by having Rikku Steal from your primary target. Stealing Silver Glasses from Logos and Iron Bangle from Ormi provides useful early-game accessories. Focus on eliminating Logos first, as he is weaker and possesses a minor healing ability (Potions, healing a negligible 20 HP). General attacks are sufficient to defeat them.

After defeating Logos and Ormi, the imposter reveals herself as Leblanc, returning Yuna’s Garment Grid—the core of the Dressphere job system—before initiating a final confrontation.

Leblanc’s offense is minimal. She uses basic attacks and Thunder, each dealing 10-20 damage.

Begin by having Rikku Steal Silver Bracers from Leblanc—another useful accessory. This battle introduces Dresspheres and job changing. Press L1 and switch Yuna to the Songstress Dressphere, essentially the Bard class. Use “Darkness Dance” from her abilities—you’ll be prompted to do so—to inflict Darkness on Leblanc.

Darkness drastically reduces accuracy, making Leblanc’s attacks likely to miss. Her Thunder spell might still hit about half the time, but damage remains low. Continue attacking Leblanc after Stealing the Silver Bracers, reapplying Darkness Dance as needed.

Chapter 1

Sectional Flowchart

Chapter 1, like subsequent chapters in this FF10-2 guide, offers non-linear gameplay. Required objectives are clearly marked, while optional tasks, though beneficial and often necessary for 100% completion, are also detailed. This flowchart suggests a recommended order for tackling events.

Percentages in parentheses indicate the completion percentage contribution of each area. Starting from 1.6% after the Prologue, you should reach 25% completion by the end of Chapter 1, following this FF10-2 guide.

Chapter 1 – Aboard the Celsius

Al Bhed Primers in Final Fantasy X-2 are randomized, unlike in FFX. Collecting them all is still necessary for completion. You can find Al Bhed Primers III, X, XIV, and XXIII in this area.

Following the Luca scenes, you’ll be aboard the Celsius, the Gullwings’ airship and base of operations. Speak to Buddy on the port side of the bridge to receive an Al Bhed Primer, crucial for understanding Al Bhed language. Talk to Brother in the pilot’s chair to get three more Al Bhed Primers.

Speak to Brother again to obtain the Festivalist Dressphere. The Festivalist Dressphere is notable for its early access to the Confuse ability. If you’re familiar with Blue Mage strategies, especially from games like Bravely Default, you’ll recognize the value of Confuse for learning enemy skills. Throughout Chapter 1, watch for enemies using White Wind or Mighty Guard. Confuse them to have your Gun Mage (FFX-2’s Blue Mage equivalent) learn these invaluable skills.

Speak with Rikku, Paine, and Shinra (the child prodigy at the computers) for optional dialogue. Shinra offers helpful tutorials; complete the Garment Grid tutorial to receive the Vanguard Garment Grid. Head south up the stairs and use the Save Sphere to heal and save your progress. Continue to the elevator and descend to the Engine Room to find chests containing four Potions, three Remedies, four Phoenix Downs, and an Ether.

Return to the elevator and go to the Cabin. Meet Hypello Barkeep, aptly named Barkeep. Stock up on items, especially Phoenix Downs—aim for at least 5-10. While status ailments aren’t prominent in the upcoming areas, Phoenix Downs are always essential. Accessories are less critical at this stage. Crucially for 100% completion, rest in the upstairs beds.

As you head back to the elevator, an alarm will sound. Return to the bridge and speak with Buddy. You’ll learn about a sphere in the floating ruins of Mt. Gagazet. Your next destination: Mt. Gagazet.

Upper Tier: After the initial scene, proceed north. You’ll learn about jumping mechanics—use the Circle button. Head east, jump down a ledge, then up the next. Before jumping the next gap, drop down to grab the Yellow Ring. Return and jump across to rejoin Rikku and Paine. Descend the stairs south and use the Save Sphere. Random encounters start beyond this point.

Head west and, after a scene, interact with the wall switch to activate the elevator.

Lower Base: Go south and drop off the ledges, then west to find an Elixir. Return and climb the ledges near the broken pillar to reach a clearing. Heal up and continue north to encounter Leblanc again.

Expect familiar tactics from Ormi and Logos—basic attacks, with Logos attacking twice. Damage is around 15-25 per hit. Leblanc takes a more offensive role, using attacks and “Sonic Fan,” a multi-target move, both dealing 10-20 damage. She also uses “Love Tap” to Haste allies. Her attack sequence is Attack, Sonic Fan, Love Tap.

Prioritize eliminating Leblanc first to prevent Hasting, which can complicate the battle. Steal her Tiara, then focus your attacks. You should be able to defeat her before or shortly after she uses Love Tap.

Songstress is invaluable here. “Darkness Dance” significantly reduces their accuracy, making Sonic Fan the only consistently hitting move. Otherwise, focus on offense and heal as needed.

After the battle, your mission is to beat the Leblanc Syndicate to the sphere within six minutes—crucial for 100% completion. The timer pauses during battles and menus.

Head north along the path to a chest with a Mega Phoenix. Go west and jump across the gap northwest into the ruins.

Passage: Go north to the intersection, west, and up the ledge. Activate the switch. Go east of the intersection and activate the second switch. A pillar lowers. Go north of the intersection, jump down into the pit for a White Ring. Climb out and jump over the gap. Continue to another intersection. Go east along the hallway, jumping and climbing to the next area.

Upper Base: Open the Red Ring chest and re-enter the ruins.

Passage: Descend the ledges to the intersection and go north. In the next area, climb the ledges.

Base: Go south and west to another forced battle. After, you’ll be on a broken pillar. Cross to the other side and jump on rubble to reach the Spire.

Spire: Climb upwards. As the path narrows, hug the right side for a Star Pendant. Backtrack to the main path and continue up. If you beat the Syndicate (aim for under 10 seconds left!), proceed after the scene, save, and continue up to a Muscle Belt chest (race winners only), then east up the stairs to the boss.

Ideally, avoid fighting the Oversoul form now, as it’s significantly harder. Boris has two attacks: a double hit and a strong single hit, each dealing 30-40 damage. “Sticky End” hits all for 40-50 damage and inflicts Stop. Oversoul form adds “Tempus Laxit” (AoE Stop) and “Power Catalyst” (continuous Strength boost). Power Catalyst is a major threat as most of Boris’s attacks are physical.

Regular Boris uses attacks for four turns, then Sticky End, repeating. Oversoul form starts with Power Catalyst, then uses Tempus Laxit or double attacks. Sticky End might be absent in Oversoul form.

Stop is the primary challenge. Remedies can cure it, but they are valuable.

Warrior Dressphere abilities “Power Break” and “Armor Break” are excellent openers, halving Boris’s Strength and Defense, especially effective against the Oversoul form. “Darkness Dance” can further reduce accuracy, mitigating physical attacks except Sticky End. Use Warrior attacks or elemental spells from Red and White Rings (Fire, Blizzard) for extra damage. Warrior is generally preferable, but adapt to your playstyle.

After defeating Boris, you get the Gagazet Sphere. Exit and you’ll return to the Celsius after a scene.

100% COMPLETION CHECKPOINT!
By this point in this FF10-2 guide, you should have 6% completion. If not, review the Prologue for missed steps.

Back on the Celsius after Mt. Gagazet. Speak to Brother, who’s on the floor, and choose to comfort him. (Optional: walk on him repeatedly for amusing groans). Speak to Shinra to receive the Black Mage Dressphere, essential for exploiting elemental weaknesses.

Missions await in Besaid, Kilika, and Zanarkand. You can proceed directly to Chapter 1 – Besaid, Chapter 1 – Kilika (a brief trip), and Chapter 1 – Zanarkand or follow this FF10-2 guide‘s recommended order to visit other locations first, crucial for 100% completion.

This is a brief detour in this FF10-2 guide; we won’t tackle Kilika’s main mission yet. Explore the docks for easily visible chests containing an Ether, Mana Tablet (doubles max MP – great for Black Mage!), two Antidotes, two Eye Drops, and a Phoenix Down. The shop northwest of the docks is similar to the Celsius shop. A woman near the docks offers a monkey-related minigame, but it’s inaccessible until you enter the woods.

Head north to Kilika’s residential area. Climb the stairs and enter the house to the left, Dona’s residence from FFX. Speak to Dona, then collect 1,500 Gil from her house. Explore the rest of the district for more chests with a Lunar Curtain, two Holy Waters, a Star Curtain, and a Light Curtain. In the town’s southeast corner, find a person using a telescope. Look at the construction through the telescope; this is the first step to acquiring the Invincible accessory, which grants Break Damage Limit. Speak to him in Chapter 3 and Chapter 5 to fully obtain it.

That’s all for Kilika for now.

Chapter 1 – Luca

TREASURES CHECKLIST
[_] Lunar Curtain x2

Upon arrival, Yuna reflects on Leblanc’s impersonation, initiating a mission. After the scene, go south to Luca Square. A man will call out to you; speak with him. You need to deliver balloons to:

  • Dancing woman near the balloon cart
  • Kid near the statue
  • Old woman on the bench to the west
  • Two people near the west side of the statues
  • Two people in the northwest corner
  • Approach the glass windows below the TVs and press X to sell two more
  • Man on the far north side

Completing this balloon delivery quest rewards you with the Healing Wind Garment Grid.

After the balloon quest, return to Luca and jump to the nearby chest for two Lunar Curtains. Go south to the Square, then east to the Theater’s reception if desired. You can buy Movie Spheres (2,000 Gil) and Music Spheres (1,000 Gil) to view and listen to in-game content. The Sphere Theater houses these options, but purchasing them now is optional and doesn’t contribute to trophies or 100% completion.

Head west and south to Luca Stadium entrance, then southeast to Dock 5. At the dock’s end, open the chest for the Thunder Spawn Garment Grid. Return to the stadium entrance and enter the northeast basement to find Rin. He’ll give you an Al Bhed Primer. (The Primer’s reappearance after FFX and Rikku’s Al Bhed fluency are minor plot inconsistencies).

In the other stadium basement, speak with Shinra to learn about Sphere Break, a math-based minigame detailed later in this FF10-2 guide. You’ll receive five Helm Coins, five Zurvan Coins, five Coyote Coins, and five Flan Coins for Sphere Break. That concludes Luca’s activities for now.

Chests are plentiful, offering valuable items. The Mi’ihen Travel Agency, halfway along the Highroad, still operates as a shop. While travel agencies are less crucial now without Sin, the shop offers useful accessories. Silver Bracers and Tiaras benefit magic-users, while Iron Bangles and Gauntlets enhance physical classes.

Speak to everyone along the Highroad, especially the Al Bhed. These interactions are necessary to trigger a later event in Chapter 4.

Upon arriving at Mushroom Rock, consider engaging Bully Caps in battle. White Wind heals a significant portion of HP and cures ailments. Gun Mages can learn this invaluable skill for future use, mirroring Blue Mage mechanics from other Final Fantasy games.

Head up Mushroom Rock road to find Logos and Ormi. Follow them to the Youth League. Confirm your knowledge of their leader, Yaibal, and accept his offer—necessary for 100%. Follow Rikku and Paine, speaking with Clasko. Before following Clasko, go left to find 1,000 Gil behind a statue. Return and tell the soldiers you’re ready. Take the left fork and follow Clasko.

This initiates a mission in Mushroom Rock ravine. Defeat enemies along the path to the other side. Tonberries are the main challenge, bulkier but less dangerous than FFX’s Karma-inflicting versions. Battles are more frequent in foggy, purplish areas. Use the lift and follow the path to Logos and Ormi, who drop Crimson Sphere 9. Crimson Spheres are crucial collectibles—collect all ten by the game’s end.

After regaining control, touch the nearby statue and head to the Save Sphere. A scene about the Den of Woe will play. Backtrack out of the ravine. Take the original path and use the lift to complete the mission, earning a Glass Buckle and Heart of Flame Garment Grid.

After the mission, go south and grab the Favorite Outfit from a chest. Use the nearby lift to reach Youth League HQ. Save if needed, then go east. Check the minimap for a nub, indicating a path to the Restless Sleep Garment Grid. Return and go to the large tent, speaking to Lucil twice for Nooj information. Speak to Maechen, the old man nearby (FFX players will recognize him). Listen to his entire monologue and shake his hand—another 100% requirement.

Return to the Celsius and redeposit yourself at Mushroom Rock’s entrance. Find Clasko northeast of your starting point, shaking his head. Invite him aboard the airship, then return to the Celsius. Speak to Shinra to view the Crimson Report from Crimson Sphere 9. Then speak to him in the cabin to conclude Mushroom Rock events for now.

100% COMPLETION CHECKPOINT!

Entering Djose, head towards the temple. Grab the Phoenix Down west of the entrance. Wait for the herd to thin out to proceed. Speak to the person in the small building to register for digging, then enter the temple. After the scene, receive an Al Bhed Primer. Go through the left door for an Echo Screen.

Leave the temple and head south towards the bridge to Djose Highroad and Moonflow. A scene will trigger. Tell Gippal “We’re sure” to get the Letter of Introduction, needed later. Go to the bridge’s end for two Potions in a chest. Continue to the “Y” crossroads. Go northwest to Moonflow, instead of beaming down from the Celsius.
