Dealing with debt collection agencies can be a stressful part of credit repair. Many individuals explore strategies like “pay-for-delete” to remove collection accounts from their credit reports. One person recently contacted Merchants’ Credit Guide Co. in Chicago, IL, seeking such an agreement for medical bills in collection. After initial contact and requesting a pay-for-delete (PFD) agreement, they received an email response from Daniel F. Burtis, President & CEO of Merchants’ Credit Guide Co. This email outlined the terms for deletion upon payment. The question arises: Is this email a sufficient written agreement for a pay-for-delete, or should one insist on further written confirmation from Merchants’ Credit Guide Co. located at 223 W. Jackson Blvd., Suite 700, Chicago, IL 60606?
The email from Merchants’ Credit Guide Co. states:
I’m sorry. We’re not going to do this agreement you have sent. I will tell you in an email, as President of Merchants’ Credit Guide Company, if you send us the $1,098 for these two Emergency Medical Associates of Palos, we will delete the collection items from your credit bureau reports. As soon as we receive the funds and the check clears, we will remove them and send you a letter confirming the deletions. Or, of course, you may pay on-line. Let me know when you have made payment and I will see to it that these items get removed as soon as possible.
Thank you. I look forward to hearing back from you.
