Whether you’re a newcomer to Inaba or a returning veteran aiming for the coveted “Golden Completed Trophy,” this P4g Guide provides a detailed walkthrough, tips, and strategies to experience everything this acclaimed JRPG has to offer. We’ll break down every aspect of the game, from mastering social links and conquering dungeons to completing the Persona Compendium and uncovering all endings. Prepare yourself for an immersive journey through mystery, friendship, and self-discovery as we embark on this comprehensive Persona 4 Golden adventure together.
Introduction to Persona 4 Golden
Persona 4 Golden, an enhanced version of the original Persona 4, immerses players in a captivating murder mystery set in the rural Japanese town of Inaba. You take on the role of a high school student who, upon moving to Inaba, becomes entangled in a series of bizarre incidents linked to the mysterious TV World. This p4g guide is designed to help you not just solve the mystery, but to fully explore every facet of Persona 4 Golden.
This walkthrough is structured around a two-playthrough approach to obtain 100% completion, including all trophies. The first playthrough focuses on experiencing the story, maxing social links, and completing most trophies. The New Game Plus playthrough will then tackle the remaining trophies, compendium completion, and optional content. This approach maximizes your enjoyment and ensures you don’t miss any crucial elements along the way.
Understanding Persona 4 Golden Gameplay Mechanics
To effectively utilize this p4g guide, it’s crucial to understand the core gameplay mechanics of Persona 4 Golden. The game blends dungeon crawling RPG elements with social simulation aspects, requiring careful time management and strategic decision-making.
Status Parameters: Your protagonist has five status parameters: Courage, Diligence, Knowledge, Expression, and Understanding. These parameters are increased by various in-game actions like studying, working part-time jobs, and choosing specific dialogue options. Raising these parameters is essential for starting and progressing social links, accessing certain jobs, and even dialogue choices.
Social Links: Social Links represent your relationships with other characters. Building these links is paramount, not only for story enrichment but also for gameplay advantages. Ranking up social links provides Persona fusion bonuses, powerful abilities for your party members, and unlocks deeper story content. This p4g guide emphasizes maximizing all social links in your first playthrough.
Personas: Personas are manifestations of your inner self, used for combat in the TV World. As a Wild Card, your protagonist can wield multiple Personas, each with unique skills and elemental affinities. Strategic Persona fusion in the Velvet Room is key to creating powerful Personas to overcome challenges. Having a Persona of the same Arcana as a Social Link you are developing grants bonus points, speeding up the ranking process.
Dungeons and Combat: The TV World houses dungeons filled with Shadows, the game’s enemies. Combat is turn-based, emphasizing exploiting enemy weaknesses and utilizing “One More” attacks to gain extra turns and perform devastating All-Out Attacks. Efficient dungeon crawling is vital, and this p4g guide will instruct you on completing each dungeon in a single day to optimize your schedule.
Time Management and Schedule: Persona 4 Golden operates on a day-by-day schedule. Every action, from attending school to exploring dungeons or hanging out with friends, consumes time. This p4g guide provides a meticulous daily schedule to ensure you efficiently manage your time and achieve 100% completion within the game’s timeframe.
Weather: Weather in Inaba is not just a visual element; it directly impacts gameplay. Certain social links are only available on rainy days, specific enemies appear only during certain weather conditions, and weather can even affect dungeon layouts. Paying attention to the weather forecast is crucial for efficient planning.
Saving Frequently: Given the complexity of achieving 100% completion and the potential for making mistakes, saving frequently is highly recommended. This p4g guide advises saving every 2-3 days in separate save slots to allow for easy backtracking if needed.
A blue butterfly indicates a save point. Save your progress regularly to avoid setbacks in your 100% P4G journey.

Walkthrough FAQ
This section of the p4g guide addresses frequently asked questions to aid you throughout your playthrough.
WAQ1: Why do I need to save frequently?
Mistakes happen, stat increases can be random, and following this guide precisely might require reloading saves. Saving frequently, ideally every 2-3 days in different slots, provides a safety net and prevents significant progress loss.
WAQ2: What are Status Parameters?
Courage, Diligence, Knowledge, Expression, and Understanding are your protagonist’s status parameters. They influence social links, job availability, and dialogue options. This p4g guide prioritizes maxing these stats early.
WAQ3: Why do I need specific Personas?
Having a Persona of the same Arcana as a Social Link you’re spending time with grants bonus points, crucial for efficient Social Link maximization. Unless noted otherwise, assume you need a matching Persona for every rank except Rank 1 and Rank 10.
WAQ4: Why is the weather important?
Weather impacts Social Link availability (some are only available in the rain), enemy encounters, and event effects. Rain limits social link options but opens up specific rainy-day activities and enemy encounters.
WAQ5: Why Soccer instead of Basketball?
For book completion efficiency, this p4g guide recommends the Soccer club. The Soccer club Strength Social Link has no rank restrictions for obtaining books, unlike the Basketball club.
WAQ6: How do Social Links work?
Social Links operate on a point-based system. Earning enough points through interactions and correct dialogue choices ranks up the link. This p4g guide highlights optimal dialogue choices and emphasizes carrying a Persona of the corresponding Arcana for bonus points.
WAQ7: How do you beat a dungeon in one day?
SP management is key. Minimize magic skill usage, prioritize physical attacks and critical hits, and exploit enemy weaknesses. Golden Hands are excellent for experience and money but require specific strategies to defeat quickly. This p4g guide will provide tips for one-day dungeon clears.
WAQ8: What is a flag?
In game terms, a flag is a trigger. Completing a specific requirement “triggers” a flag, unlocking content later in the game, often related to the character associated with the flag. Flags in P4G typically unlock social links or extra story content.
WAQ9: What is the Victory Cry cheat?
Victory Cry is a Persona skill that fully restores HP and SP after battle. Fusing a Persona with Victory Cry early in the game can trivialize combat, hence it’s often considered a “cheat” in the community.
WAQ10: Who is the Artisan Apprentice?
The Artisan Apprentice is an NPC who becomes available after a specific quest. He trades items, some of which are otherwise unobtainable, for materials you find throughout the game.
WAQ11: Why does Jester not need a Persona after Rank 6?
The Jester Social Link (Adachi) ranks up automatically with the story after reaching Rank 6, provided you reach Rank 6 before November 1st.
WAQ12: How do date invites work?
Date invites are available for Summer Festival, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day, Ski Trip, and Valentine’s Day. Invites from male friends are automatic. Romancing female characters is required to receive date invites from them.
WAQ13: Why does it say Aeon will rank up?
Certain story events trigger mandatory “spend time” events with Marie (Aeon Social Link), which are necessary to advance her social link beyond a certain point, even if it doesn’t immediately show a rank up.
WAQ14: Reversing and breaking Social Links?
Female classmate Social Links (and Moon/Fortune) can reverse or break if you make poor dialogue choices or neglect them. Reversed links require cheering them up; broken links require restarting from Rank 1. Sunday hangouts with multiple girls can also trigger jealousy events.
WAQX1: What if I don’t have enough room for Personas?
Fuse or release Personas you don’t immediately need, prioritizing keeping Personas of relevant Arcanas for active social links. Personas can be re-purchased from the Compendium later.
WAQX2: Why don’t I need a Death Persona?
The Death Social Link (Old Lady) is only available on Sundays and holidays and ranks up automatically each time. Therefore, a matching Persona isn’t necessary.
Important Notes
HIGHLY IMPORTANT! HIGHLY IMPORTANT! HIGHLY IMPORTANT! HIGHLY IMPORTANT! HIGHLY IMPORTANT!
Before diving into the walkthrough, please read these crucial notes carefully. Ignoring these points can lead to falling behind the guide and missing objectives.
- Arcana Persona Matching: From April 18th onwards, always have a Persona of the same Arcana as the Social Link you are interacting with (except for Rank 1 and Rank 10). This ensures maximum point gain and efficient Social Link progression.
- One-Day Dungeon Clears: This p4g guide assumes you complete each dungeon in a single day. This is achievable on any difficulty but is easier on Normal. Focus on exploiting weaknesses, using All-Out Attacks, and minimizing SP consumption. Normal difficulty is recommended for a balanced experience. If this is your first playthrough, consider playing at your own pace before attempting a 100% run.
- Minor Spoilers: This walkthrough contains minor spoilers, primarily related to game mechanics and some character-related events, but avoids major story spoilers. Be aware if you wish to experience the story completely blind.
- Social Link Delays: If you fall slightly behind on a Social Link, don’t panic. There’s flexibility within the schedule to catch up. However, staying as close to the guide as possible is recommended for optimal first-playthrough objective completion.
- Save Frequently & Utilize Multiple Slots: Save very often, ideally every 2-3 days, and use multiple save slots. This allows for easy backtracking in case of mistakes or missed objectives.
- Money Management: Money is tight in the early game but becomes more plentiful later. Conserve Yen early on and aim to have at least 50,000 Yen after the first dungeon, increasing by 50,000 Yen after each subsequent dungeon.
- Have Fun! Most importantly, enjoy the game! Persona 4 Golden is a fantastic experience, and this p4g guide is here to help you maximize your enjoyment and achieve complete satisfaction.
Current Problems & Tips to Stay on Track
Tips to Stay on Track
- Backup Saves: Maintain backup saves from previous days or weeks. Saving every 2-3 days in different slots allows for easy backtracking and course correction if you deviate from the guide.
- Arcana Persona Check: Always double-check that you have a Persona of the matching Arcana for the Social Link you are focusing on. Also, keep Personas of Party Member, Justice, and Hierophant Arcanas in your deck for potential bonus points during story events.
- Point Tracking: Try to match or exceed the Status Parameter and Social Link point gains outlined in the guide. Staying ahead slightly can provide buffer room for any deviations.
Known Problems
- June 15th – Justice Rank Up Issue: Some players have reported difficulty ranking up Justice on June 15th. Check if you received the “relationship will become closer soon” message on June 2nd. If not, you may need to gain extra points by replacing a book reading session with time spent with Justice.
- September 4th – Hierophant Rank Up Issue: Similar to Justice, some players encounter issues ranking up Hierophant on September 4th. Verify the “relationship will become closer soon” message on August 22nd. If missing, dedicate extra time to Hierophant to gain sufficient points.
- October 21st – Moon Romance Option: The Moon Social Link romance option is unique and can be confusing. The dialogue choices provided in this p4g guide are accurate, even if they initially seem unconventional.
If you encounter typos or formatting errors, please report them to the guide author via GameFAQs or email ([email protected]) to help improve the guide for everyone.

-Difficulty-
This walkthrough is designed to be followed on any difficulty setting. However, higher difficulties can make one-day dungeon clears more challenging if you are not familiar with the game. For this guide’s test playthrough, Normal difficulty was used, offering a balanced and manageable experience.

-Exploration-
You’ll have opportunities to explore areas and interact with NPCs. Talking to NPCs provides lore, hints, and insights into available activities.

Check the fridge in your home for Fried Rice. Eating it has no immediate effect, but new food items will appear every Monday, some of which boost your Courage status parameter.
IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!
If a Monday food item isn’t mentioned in the p4g guide, refrain from checking the fridge! We will sometimes save fridge items for specific days when they are most beneficial.
-Futon-
Sleeping in the futon advances time. On days other than the first day, sleeping in the futon triggers dreams related to Social Links, granting bonus points. However, this p4g guide will not utilize this mechanic for Social Link progression.

-Advice-
While this p4g guide prioritizes 100% completion, it won’t extensively cover dungeon strategies. However, advice will be provided throughout to help you clear dungeons effectively. Two basic attack types are available: Melee attacks and Persona Skills. Melee attacks are weaker but weapons can be upgraded later. Persona Skills are stronger but consume HP or SP. Always monitor your HP, as protagonist’s HP reaching zero results in game over.

Trophies are earned by completing specific in-game objectives. This walkthrough will guide you towards obtaining all trophies.

-Items-
Talk to Teddie.
Obtained 3 Revival Beads, 5 Peach Seeds, and 5 Soul Drops
IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!
A Peach Seed is needed for a later quest. Keep one Peach Seed in your inventory.
-Advice-
Each skill has an elemental affinity, and enemies have weaknesses to certain affinities. Exploiting enemy weaknesses inflicts “Down” status, granting a “One More” action, allowing for an additional turn. Chain multiple One Mores by continuously hitting weaknesses. Knocking down all enemies allows for an All-Out Attack, a powerful Almighty attack that usually instantly defeats enemies. Mastering this system is crucial for efficient combat and handling tougher enemies.
The protagonist’s Wild Card ability allows wielding multiple Personas, making them the most versatile party member. However, be mindful of changing weaknesses and stats when switching Personas. Enemies will exploit your weaknesses if you are not careful.
Party Tactics are now available. While AI control is decent, Direct Commands are highly recommended for strategic control in battles.
-Shuffle Time-
Shuffle Time is one of two ways to obtain Personas. It triggers after battles won by exploiting weaknesses, using All-Out Attacks, or finishing quickly. If no Personas are available, prioritize Sweep Bonus, Magician, Temperance, Hermit, and Emperor cards in Shuffle Time. Sweep Bonus guarantees Shuffle Time in the next battle, grants 3 picks instead of one, and removes negative effect cards.
-Required Personas-
IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!
Before facing the dungeon boss, ensure you have a Magician and a Strength Persona or have the means to fuse them. Obtaining a Strength Persona early can be challenging, so aim for Lv 5 to fuse one. (WAQ3: Why do I need specific Personas?)
