For years, shopping for jeans felt like a chore. As someone who’s 4’10”, standard jeans were always too long, leading to endless cuffing, cutting, or expensive hemming. It was a constant frustration until I discovered my first pair of jeans that fit perfectly right off the rack. It felt like a revelation! These magical jeans were a petite skinny crop from Madewell, and they fit so well I could even pair them with booties without any alterations – a dream come true for a petite frame like mine. This experience opened my eyes to the world of petite denim and the fact that jeans do exist that are designed for us. That’s why each year, I’m excited to share my petite jeans guide, helping fellow petite women find jeans that fit flawlessly, no hemming, cuffing, or cutting required.
My recommendations grow each year as I explore more brands and styles. In the past, skinny jeans dominated my list, but this year, I’m thrilled to include more options for straight leg styles and beyond.
About My Size: For reference, I’m 4’10” and weigh around 105lbs. I have a pear-shaped body with bust, waist, and hip measurements of 32″, 24″, and 36″. Since petite jeans are often purchased online, I’ll share my sizing experience with each pair to help you find your perfect fit.

Skinny Jeans
To make this guide easier to navigate, I’ve organized it by style and price point. We’ll start with skinny jeans under $100, but keep scrolling if you’re interested in exploring newer styles like straight, flare, and cropped flare jeans in petite sizes.
Abercrombie Super Skinny Jeans
- My Top Pick for High-Rise Skinny Jeans Under $100
- Ultra-High Rise
- Stretchy Fabric
- True to Size (Initially Snug, Stretches with Wear)
- Available in Short and Extra Short Lengths (I wear Short)
- Price: $50+
Abercrombie’s Super Skinny Jeans are a fantastic option for petite women, especially in their short length. While they also offer an extra short length, I find the short length to be ideal, with the extra short potentially fitting more like a cropped style on my frame. These jeans boast an ultra-high rise, sitting slightly above my belly button. They are made with a stretchy fabric that offers a touch of compression. My usual size feels a bit snug at first, but they do stretch out comfortably with wear, so I recommend sticking with your typical size. These versatile jeans pair effortlessly with booties, flats, and heels.

LOFT Skinny Jeans
- Ultra High Rise
- Super Stretchy Material
- Size Up Recommended, Runs Small in the Waist
- Full Length Style Best Suited for Flats and Heels
- Price: $50+
LOFT’s High Rise Skinny Jeans also feature a very high rise and are incredibly stretchy. On me, these jeans are slightly longer and have a looser ankle opening compared to the Abercrombie skinny jeans. Due to the length and ankle fit, they look best paired with flats or heels, making them a bit less versatile with booties. While you could cuff them to wear with booties, I generally avoid cuffing as it visually shortens the legs even more. These jeans tend to run small, particularly in the waist, so I recommend going up one size for a comfortable fit.

Sofia Vergara Skinny Jeans
- Mid Rise
- Super Stretchy Denim
- True to Size with Slight Room in the Waist, Stretches with Wear
- I Wear Them in Short Length
- Under $50
Petite-friendly jeans from Walmart? Yes, it’s possible! I was pleasantly surprised to find a pair of jeans at Walmart that fit wonderfully straight off the rack. These Sofia Vergara jeans are wonderfully stretchy and offer a bit of extra room in the waist for me. They feature a mid-rise that falls just under my belly button, offering a comfortable in-between of mid and high rise. For such a budget-friendly option, these jeans are a great overall find. Keep in mind they do stretch with wear and may not provide as much hold or structure as some of my other jeans. They are versatile enough to work well with all types of shoes.

LC Lauren Conrad Skinny Jeans
- High Rise
- Super Stretchy Material
- True to Size, Holds Shape Well with Wear
- Available in Petite and Petite Short Lengths (I’m Wearing Petite Short in the Photo)
- Under $50
Another budget-friendly high-rise option comes from Kohl’s, specifically the LC Lauren Conrad line. Kohl’s also carries petite Nine West jeans if you want to explore more options. This particular pair from LC Lauren Conrad comes in both petite and petite short lengths (I’m wearing petite short in the picture). Petite short length is perfect for wearing with booties, while the regular petite length is more of a full length, better suited for flats or heels. These jeans are incredibly stretchy, perhaps the stretchiest of all the jeans mentioned, yet they maintain their shape throughout the day. They fit true to size with a snug, stretchy feel. The only downside I’ve noticed is that the black pair has faded slightly after washing.

AE Jegging
- My Top Mid-Rise Skinny Jean Under $100 Pick
- Mid-Rise
- Denim with Moderate Stretch
- Size Up Recommended
- Available in Short and Extra Short Lengths (I wear Extra Short)
- Under $50
AE jeggings have been a consistent recommendation in my petite jeans guides year after year. After Madewell, AE was one of the first brands I discovered that offered excellent petite options. AE has several styles that have fit me well in extra short length, but their jeggings remain my personal favorite. I’m wearing the high-waisted jegging, which is actually a mid-rise style. They are stretchy yet still have a substantial denim feel and structure. The extra-short length is somewhat cropped on me, making them ideal for wearing with booties. They tend to fade a bit with washing and the zipper area can wrinkle over time, but they are another fantastic budget-friendly petite jean option.

Non-Skinny Jeans for Petites
LOFT High Rise Kick Crop Jeans
- High Rise
- Stretchy Fabric
- Size Up or True Size in Curvy Fit
- Price: $50+
My absolute favorite non-skinny jean fit from LOFT is their High-Rise Kick Crop Jeans. They are high-rise and stretchy, yet still provide a flattering hold and shape retention throughout wear. I find they look best with heels, flats, or slim-shaft booties that can be tucked under the jeans. I sized up in these jeans to a 25 petite.

Abercrombie Vintage Flare Jeans (High Rise)
- High Rise
- Rigid Denim
- Size Up Recommended
- Available in Short and Extra Short Lengths (I wear Short)
- Price: $50+
I’ve previously tried AE flare jeans, but the Abercrombie Vintage Flare Jeans are a top pick for me when it comes to overall fit and style. These jeans are high-rise and made from rigid denim. I prefer to wear heels or heeled booties with flare jeans, so I opted for the short length over extra short for the ideal length. I recommend sizing up in this style.

Abercrombie Curve Love Straight Jeans
- High Rise
- Rigid Denim
- Size Up Recommended
- Available in Short and Extra Short Lengths (I wear Extra Short)
- Price: $50+
These jeans have become incredibly popular and are consistently a top-selling item on my blog! They are a favorite among my petite friends as well. The rise is high, sitting right around my belly button. They are made from rigid denim but do soften and stretch slightly with wear. The back pocket placement is excellent, creating a flattering fit. I’m wearing the extra short length, which I purchased during the summer. I love this fit with flats, heels, and sandals. While you can wear them with booties, the hem tends to hit right at the top of the bootie rather than tucking under, so you might prefer the short length if you plan to wear them primarily with booties.

Petite Jeans Over $100
My top picks for jeans over $100 occasionally go on sale and drop below that price point, so I always recommend keeping an eye out for deals. I try to share any sales I spot on my Instagram stories as well. However, all of my recommendations in this higher price category are exceptionally well-made and offer lasting value in your wardrobe. They are primarily from J.Crew and Madewell, sister companies known for their exceptional denim quality in my opinion.

J.Crew Toothpick Jeans
- High Rise (Mid-Rise in the 9-inch Option, My Pair is 9″ Rise)
- Rigid Denim (in Vintage Styles)
- Size Up Recommended
- Price: $100+
J.Crew is an excellent brand to consider if you prefer rigid denim without an overly high rise. I specifically look for their “vintage” jeans because the denim is typically rigid, which I prefer over super stretchy denim for its durability and resistance to fading. The 9″ rise option in their jeans is more of a mid-rise and sits just below my belly button. Many of their styles also come in a 10″ rise, which I also wear and find sits higher, around my belly button. Their petite jeans often have a great cropped length, making them easy to style with any type of footwear.

Madewell Skinny Crop Jeans
- High Rise in 10″, Mid-Rise in 9″ (I’m Wearing 9″ Rise)
- Classic Denim with Stretch
- True to Size
- Price: $100+
Madewell’s Skinny Crop Jeans are my original favorite petite skinny jeans. They tend to release more of this style around spring, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for restocks. While they may not be currently available, I couldn’t create this guide without including one of my all-time favorite styles. These jeans offer a comfortable stretch while maintaining their shape. They are true to size and consistently comfortable to wear. It’s a close tie for me between the stovepipe jeans and Madewell’s skinny crop – I love both equally!

Non-Skinny Jeans Over $100 for Petites
Madewell Stovepipe Jeans
- High Rise in 10″
- Rigid Denim with Stretch
- True to Size
- Price: $100+
If you’re looking to try straight leg jeans but are hesitant about how they might look on your petite frame, you might really appreciate Madewell’s Stovepipe Jeans. They are straight but have a slim silhouette, making them a close alternative to skinny jeans. They fit true to size and feature a high rise that sits at my belly button. They are made from rigid denim but have enough give to feel comfortable. They also don’t stretch out with wear. You can style these with any shoe type; if you want to wear booties, I recommend choosing a pair with a slim shaft that can be tucked under the jeans.

J.Crew Vintage Slim Straight Jeans
- My Top Pick for Straight Jeans Over $100
- High Rise in 10″, Mid-Rise in 9″ Options
- Rigid Denim with Stretch
- True to Size
- Price: $100+
J.Crew Vintage Straight Jeans have quickly become my new favorite. They offer the perfect combination of rigid denim with comfortable stretch, making them wearable all day without feeling restricted. The back pocket placement is also perfectly designed. Many jeans have back pockets placed too high, which can make your backside appear larger. However, if you already have wider hips, this isn’t ideal. J.Crew excels at placing pockets right in the middle, which is flattering on all body shapes (Madewell also does this well). Most of their jeans come in a standard fit, and I typically need to size up in those. However, some styles are offered in a curvy fit, which fits me true to size. The pair I’m wearing below is standard fit in a size up. They have a nice slim leg and a great cropped length. The vintage straight jeans also have a comfortable rise; the 9″ is mid-rise, and the 10″ is high-rise but not as high as some of my Abercrombie jeans. I also appreciate that most of their jeans have clean washes without distressing or back pocket designs, making them suitable for workwear as well.

These particular jeans are Vintage Slim Straight jeans with a 9″ rise, but this pair almost feels like a low-rise. I knew some of you would appreciate this as it can be more comfortable on a shorter torso.

J.Crew Full-Length ’90s Classic Straight Jeans
- High Rise in 10″
- Rigid Denim
- True to Size
- Price: $100+
If you want to embrace a full-length straight leg style, these jeans are a fantastic option. They embody a true ’90s fit with wider legs. They are high rise and made from rigid denim. I find this style of jeans looks best with heels as it adds a bit of length and balances the volume in the legs.

J.Crew Demi Boot Jeans
- Mid-Rise
- Rigid Denim
- Size Up Recommended
- Price: $100+
I love Demi boot jeans, especially for summer. J.Crew’s Demi boot jeans are mid-rise and comfortable, made with denim that holds its shape well. You can wear them with any shoe style, but I prefer them with shoes that show off the ankle.

Madewell Cali Demi Boot Jeans

The final pair of jeans on this list is one I’ve owned for several years, and they are still as great as the day I bought them. They are incredibly well-made, wash beautifully, and will be a lasting staple in your closet for years to come! My pair is white, and they are completely opaque, not at all see-through. I particularly love wearing them in the spring and summer and was thrilled to see they have been fully restocked again this year.
