Level Up Your Monstrology: A Low Wizard’s Guide to Polaris Raid Prep

Embarking on your Monstrology journey in Wizard101? It’s a fantastic way for wizards of all levels to add a unique dimension to their gameplay, and it all starts with understanding the basics. If you’re a lower-level wizard looking to get a head start, especially with goals like tackling Polaris raids in the future, mastering Monstrology early is a smart move. This guide will walk you through the initial steps of collecting animus, gaining experience, and leveling up your Monstrology, setting you on the path to becoming a true expert.

The first step is training with Avalonians to learn how to collect ‘Wyrms,’ which are dragon-type creatures. Remember, for dragon types, you’ll need to use the Wyrm spell, not the Undead one. This handy spell even lets you revisit areas like the Forum in Dragonspyre to collect those elusive dragons you might have missed earlier in your adventures.

Now, let’s talk about experience points. Your Monstrology journey begins at level 1. You can track your current level in your spellbook, under the character page, where you also find activities like fishing and gardening. To successfully collect animus, it’s crucial to target undead creatures that are around your Monstrology level. You can easily see their level displayed above their heads in battle. The good news for beginners is that Wizard City is teeming with level 1 and 2 creatures, making it an ideal starting ground to easily grasp the animus collection process.

Every battle where you successfully collect animus will reward you with experience points, propelling you further in your Monstrology levels. Once you reach level 3 or 4, you’ll find yourself capable of collecting animus from virtually any undead creature in both Wizard City and Krokotopia.

When I first started, my goal was to collect Lady Blackhope in Unicorn Way. I engaged in multiple battles with her to gather enough animus to create a house guest – around 30 animus is usually needed. It took roughly 12 fights to achieve this. In each fight, I typically collected 2 or 3 animus from Lady Blackhope, plus another 2 or 3 from the Skeletal Corsair accompanying her. This meant each battle earned me 4-6 Monstrology experience points. By the time I had collected enough animus from Lady Blackhope, I had already reached Monstrology level 3.

Next, I moved on to collecting Field Guards in Triton Avenue and the Haunted Cave. By the time I completed this task, I had advanced to Monstrology level 4 or 5, consistently collecting 3 animus per creature in each battle. My next destination was Mooshu, where leveling up became even faster due to encounters with two Cursed Ronin at once. It wasn’t long before I was ready to venture into Dragonspyre, a higher-level world offering even greater Monstrology experience opportunities.

So, the key to efficient Monstrology leveling is understanding which creatures to fight based on your current level. Now that you know the optimal targets for early levels, you’re well-equipped to start your journey. Knowing who to battle is half the strategy for leveling up quickly in Monstrology. With this knowledge, you are now better prepared to level up your Monstrology and perhaps one day, even lead a Polaris raid!
